On The Ramp

Aishwarya walked the L’Oreal show in Paris on Sunday wearing a gold cape gown by Falguni and Shane Peacock with her hair down. That gown deserved a sleeker do but we all know that Ms. Rai prefers her hair down, so the better pick would’ve been a simpler gown here. All of it felt just a tad overwhelming. The only saving grace here though was that she didn’t go with that signature bright red lip.

  1. Love the drama neck down but the hair ruins everything. Wrong gown if they wanted to highlight the hair. Also think the lip shade is worse than her usual red.

  2. The hair colour n wavy style are the change …baby steps.
Wish she had kept all her hair to one side .. would have been a glamorous look.

  3. I think she looks amazing, glamorous and confident. Her clothes and hair may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but this is her style and she looks beautiful!

  4. I believe that if the panel had not been affixed to the front of Aishwarya’s gown, she would have looked a “100 percent” stunning! Because of the unnecessary panel, the hair, the cape seemed too much.
I loved her soft make-up and was thrilled to see her walk the runway.
Also, I think her hair looks wonderful on her – I wish Aishwarya would colour her hair more often if she doesn’t want to put in a bun or a plait.

  5. The hair, lip color and dress color are ask kind of crazy! Everything clashes. Although I have given up on Aishwarya but whenever she shows up like this, I always go like why would she do this to herself!! With all the resources, stylists and her own sensibility of being in fashion/ movie industry for this long just goes for a toss!!!

  6. It’s L’Oreal so hair being up is out of question….I wish she’d worn a black gown in some luxurious fabric like silk or velvet…
BTW here her signature red lip might’ve actually worked better….

  7. I’m missing the vintage Ash where her face would save any look from any kind of a disaster but alas , that is not the case anymore !!!

  8. Umm… I am not sure what is working about this look. Yes its different from the usual stuff, but The hair, the dress, the makeup, nothing seems cohesive.

Less said about the pressure of living upto certain beauty standards, the better. Wish she would embrace and own her fabulous self instead of hiding behind OTT / gaudy stuff

  9. It’s baffling to see Aishwarya dressed like this. Even with modest dressing, one can try different cuts and silhouettes. We can stay within our comfort zone and still not look monotonous. Also sarees are the most flattering clothing for us Indians. Why not give it a whirl once in a while?

  11. Ash is a maximalist- she has her own style and owns it. Doesn’t seem bothered by the reams of bloggers et all trashing her. Guts and glory to this beautiful women.

  12. Those chunky highlights are SO dated and so badly done! Not to mention, the dress itself looks like a rip-off of the Jenny Packham Goldfinger Gown that Kate Middleton wore a year ago (it went viral; she looked so good in it).

Everything about this look is terrible.

    • I am sure those chunky highlights were done by the L’Oreal team when she arrived for the event. They might not be as dated as you think.

  13. I saw a paparazzi video of her recently where she was at the airport and so her hair/makeup/outfit was simple and I thought she still looked like the stunning, undeniable beauty that she is despite the same ol hair, lipstick etc. Here as well I think she looks glam, fabulous and gorgeous. Go Aish!

    • Yes… heavy embellished outfits add more bulk unnecessarily. In simple make up n casual fabrics she looks more like her normal self.

  14. She is bothered. She is uncomfortable, one can see it, although she wasn’t when she gave birth and showed up in that midnight blue body hugging Elie Saab at Cannes 2012. Its difficult being the most talked about beauty in the last 3 decades and I mean this globally and to now age, it is difficult. I just wish she embraces it, cuts her hair short, wears an Armani suit like she used to, carry a Ferragamo clutch like she used to, wear the Jimmy Choos like she used to. Whatever one says she will not listen. So better, we appreciate her services to the arts, that enigmatic screen presence, those dancing skills, the femininity, the grace, that global appeal, that pioneer attitude. That 90’s unattainable and sustainable movie start fame, and that face card, would never not impress. She sits breathes and exists in a league of her own. My childhood icon. Aishwarya forevermore

  15. Major Shahnaz Hussain, Sherni vibes! And, I don’t mean it in a good way. Can’t tell where her hair begins and her gown and cape end :/

After so many years on the international arena and with L’Oréal, this is so disappointing! She kind of looks like she couldn’t care anymore.

  16. This is not a comment on her fashion, but i really hope that if she or any of her entourage follows this space, they see this comment. I feel that more than anything else, the one thing that ruins her public appearances is the over-the-top fake attitude. Her innate nature seems to be one of reserve and restraint. On her own, she does not do anything that can be construed as attention-grabbing or gimmicky or particularly celebrity-esque. So then, this overly flamboyant style of shimmying down the runway with the hands stuck at the hips, constantly delicately trying to keep the hair exactly in place, blowing a fake kiss etc. just feels very jarring. Completely at odds with her personality otherwise. I imagine her walking down the runway with a relaxed easy gait, smiling a genuine smile, not so preoccupied with the hair etc., just being herself and being completely comfortable with it, not trying too hard to play to the gallery, and suddenly none of the fashion choices seem so terrible.
