Deja Vu

Comment image 120

It felt like deja vu seeing Aishwarya Rai walk down the red carpet on day three of Cannes. She wore a pink gown that reminded me so much of her appearance at Cannes 2008 in a Roberto Cavalli gown. (That appearance also had her carry a silver clutch). It would be funny if this gown is also a Cavalli. 😛

Color and similarity aside, I wish the hair was different but then we might have had an ‘Almost’ Ditto of Ash vs Ash on our hands. Oddly enough, in 2008 the pink was my favorite look and now also this new appearance is my favorite.

Update: Aishwarya is in Gucci one of a kind.

  1. she looks divine and dignified but she looks so HOT in the older pic. i hope while she’s there she picks up some fitness tips from deepika and eva.

    • Yes, best so far. But the 2008 comparison with the 2010 just highlights how much she seems to have aged in a short time. She looks so fresh and delightful in the ’08 photo. She seems heavier and a bit more world weary in the 2010 pic. I think she and Abhi should move out to their own house and stop living with in-laws.

  2. UGH! it looks like its choking her… and the waist is a wrong length! what a hideous mess compared to that divine pink maxi she wore earlier at some party…

  3. although the elie saab is still my favourite, i like this one too. as for aishwarya, she is looking a lot slimmer in this gown than she did in the other two gowns. the hair is nothing great but not bad either. would rate this one to be her best appearance so far, at cannes.

  5. Love the gown, and have always loved this color! I wish she would pep it up a little bit with some bling, she’s been wearing the same earrings and bracelet in all 3 of her red carpet appearances. But then again, with that face who’s gonna notice the bling bling!

  6. Finally a gown that suits her body type.Like the colour and silhouette of the gown.Makes Aishwarya look a couple of years younger than her last two appearances on the red carpet.

  7. I really like this appearance!!!
the color is gorgeous on her and I usually dont like pleated dresses…but LUV the pattern on this one!
its making her look tall and slender..and quite elegant!
wish she had gone with different hair!!!!

  8. I really like this dress. It’s the kind of dress I’ve always wanted to see her in at Cannes: strong colour but not loud, no OTT train/frills/sequins…just a simple elegant cut, and with an interesting neckline as opposed to the off-shoulder style that makes her shoulders look chunky.

If I could change one thing it would be the hair (again). If they were going to paste her hair flat against her head they could at least have covered up those light streaks – otherwise it looks like she’s going grey. On open hair the streaks aren’t so noticeable but when you tack the hair against the head the lines look unflattering. That is the WTF element of this look for me, but not as WTF as on previous occasions.

Really love the dress though (from the front at least). I hope it doesn’t look fugly from the back (I won’t turn off my WTFometer until I see the back).

Well done Aishwarya’s stylist, finally you made her look a little more like the beautiful woman we know and love.

  10. My oh my!!! Hello gorgeous :))) certainly her best so far. Though I liked the previous two but both times I felt that the boob tube style wasn’t doing justice to her body shape. She isn’t at her toned best n standing next to Eva longoria made it a lil worse. how I prayed that she picked a different style n guess wat my prayer got answered! I so shud’ve asked for a million dollars instead. That aside, she looks great. The color looks fabulous on her. She def gets my vote on this one! Go ash!! U did us proud.

  11. oh wow! she looks breathtakingly beautiful! i love the color and the cut and shape of the gown is very figure flattering on Aish. I like that she kept her make-up very neutral since the color of the gown is so bright!

    S.T.U.N.N.I.N.G she looks. Super stunning!

How the heck does she look better now? And I love her hair, her shoes, the gown (wow) and HER FACE!

Perfection. A hundred on ten. Well done, Ash. I have another reason to be proud when I say I’m Indian. You are that reason. Hats off.

  17. This gown suits her so well compared to the Roberto Cavilli one. IT is also giving her a more slimmer look compared to the previous two gowns worn this time.
But did she forgot to take her jewellery box this time. The studs look the same.

  18. Love the colour of her gown… but don’t you think she looks to conscious of her lips?? Look at her mouth in the last picture!

  21. Hallelujah!! She looks gorgeous. The color looks fantastic on her, the gown skims her curves and suits her body type and I think her glow is back. Winner!

  22. i like the dress and the fit. The hair, not so much. she looks better with her hair open, to much hair spray to the front of her hair, I prefer the casual pony tail look.

  23. She looks great! Makeup (yeah I know there will be people finding faults with that!), hair, gown, everything. And yeah she does not look toned but so what???…isn’t Christina Hendricks applauded for her curves? Everyone can’t look toned like Jennifer Aniston (I hope to get there some day though;)
Her clutch reminds me of a saada dosa:D

  24. I really like her look here. The color is perfect, the dress hides the flaws in her figure, the hair+makeup is sophisticated and sexy.

    She finally got it right!!

    • Hello, she is a global ambassador for L’Oreal a major sponsor of Cannes. Plus she is promoting her movie Raavan. There is a special event for Raavan on Monday – I saw that on Deadline Hollywood.

Mani Ratnam, AR Rahman, Vikram, Abhishek and Aishwarya will be in attendance.

    • She represents l’oreal and they sponsor the film festival. Personally, Im just happy to see a few Indian faces on the red carpet there (shekar kapoor is part of the jury)

      • Plus, I dont know what you mean by ‘international films’ but Hindi films show at Cannes too. Raavan is being promoted there

    • International films? It is an international film festival. That doesn’t mean only English. Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, Italian, French… language is not a barrier.

  26. OMG 60 comments within a span of an hour! If this is not called super-mega stardom, I don’t know what is!

She’s hit a hattrick (actually four times if we consider the photocall too). This is one of Ash’s most significant years at Cannes.

I’m hoping to see more of her now since she’s also there to promote Mani Ratnam’s ambitious “Raavan” and even Abhishek is gonna land there in a couple of days. Yayy!

    Reply
    • Yeah, Ash always gets the most comments, the girl has a lot of pressure. Super duper stardom for sure, she’s just in a different league like when people compare her to Sonam Kapoor or Frieda Pinto I’m just like omg please they’re all so different.. different leagues (and I’m not talking about looks). Anyways I always usually love Ash’s looks, I think this one is fab as well. This is one of Ash’s more significant years at the festival because she finally had time to stay for more than one event even though she’s always invited for everything. Cannes loves Aishwarya! Woohoo.

  29. Finally did justice to a dress! She did not do justice to the ellie saab dress! it’s such a beautiful dress would have suited someone with a good figure! Ash so needs to hit the gym!

    • Oh my god.She is PERFECTLY healthy and curvaceous. Its a good thing that she’s out there giving real woman confidence about their bodies. She needs to wear more figure-flattering clothes, I agree. But she DOES NOT need to lose weight.

      • Its no wonder women have such terrible body image. It’s not just the media that perpetuates the stereotype that you have to be toned and skinny and slender and all that crap to carry off certain looks and to look good. It’s also the people who actually buy into the stereotype, as can be seen from some of the comments here.
I personally thought she looked divine in the black dress from yesterday. It’s nice to see a woman who looks like she doesn’t always count her calories. And she looks simply gorgeous in this number. the Elie Saab dress i didn’t like because of the design. Too whimsical, and i usually like whimsical.

      • Come on she needs to tone her upper body, it needs definition for all these dresses to look really good. You’re right she needs to wear more figure flattering clothes, time to get a new stylist who really understands body types. Max Azria would be great choice for Ash, he experiments with gorgeous drapes and beautiful colours.

        • M she is not unhealithily obese and she looks beautiful and elegant when she wears clothes that suit her body type (like here).I think she’s perfectly fine, just refreshingly true to the curvaceous body type of most Indian woman.

  34. She is looking lovely. But there is something really troubling her. She seems to lack her usual energy and glow. Hope she gets her oompph back soon!

  35. This one is by far the best so far. I know she and Eva Longoria are there due to Loreal endorsements but is Ash going to be there every single year? Not that I mind but it seems like she’s become a fixture with Cannes festival. So does she have five or seven more days to wow us with that many dresses? I ain’t complaining!! the more the merrier!! looking forward to being wowed again.

    Reply
    • I believe Ash will be invited to Cannes even if she is not with Loreal, she’s a guest of the festival not just there for work commitments. I believe she walks the red carpet for Loreal on the opening day but I don’t think it’s for all events. Could be wrong

  37. AMAZING!! This is the best this year at Cannes. Great colour, great fit and subtle make-up. It takes off so much weight off her from the last two days.
I still love her best in sarees, but this I will take anyday.

  38. she looks good but oh why must she purse her lips like this all the time?
Frankly, I find her too practiced, too affected. She may be conventionally beautiful-but has no charm or spunk.
I agree about the pulled back hair and the streaks btw.

  39. she has clearly filled in from the picture from 2008. but both dresses look good, actually i liked the light blue dress also, gorgeous dress, the hair was a scary mess, just took the eyes off from a really beautiful dress.

  40. i really wish to see a more natural smile from her someday, all those years of modelling does that to you methinks, her smile is rather fake in all pics or rather vain (models are tought that i heard :))

  41. BEST LOOK till now. She looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. I love this woman…she has unmatchable grace. 🙂 WOW man….I can’t stop gushing. What say, haters?

    • Because she’s representing L’Oreal there, not India.

Even if she was representing India, it is not a must to wear a saree. Indianness should be from within and not from what one wears on the outside.

Don’t tell me you can make Paris Hilton wear a saree and make her look Indian. Impossible. Because she has no Indian roots. (Again, I’m not telling about the outside).

      • I dont think we need to be so defensive of our culture that we expect anyone representing India abroad to wear a Sari. There were actresses from all over the world present and most of them (with very few exceptions like Deepika)wore couture gowns which are really the best idea for an event like Cannes (in my opinion)

  42. I think this is the best she’s looked this year. The color seems to suit her a lot…for some odd reason, I prefer her in the earlier dress…maybe because she looks younger and fresher there. Overall, she’s looking great.
