In Ralph and Russo

Comment image 45

Monday was a Ralph and Russo day for Ms. Kapoor who wore not only the designer duo’s creation to the red carpet but also for press interviews earlier in the day and the Chopard party that took place later in the night.

I loved the morning look instantly. The peplum dress felt youthful and quite appropriate for the day event.

The evening look though had me on the fence. I love the drama of that strapless bustier paired with lacy gloves and that statement necklace but the sheerness of that skirt and the velvetish pattern just wasn’t something I could bring myself to like.

Did you love both looks equally?

  2. The day dress is amazing. Perfection H-2-T

The chopard party is rather unfortunate
the dress feels over designed and the look feels over styled. The skirt is too big but not in a good way but to me the corset like top is almost worse. To have one look like a corset complete with sculpted breasts but then not bother to fit it well is baffling (the material is bunching). Disappointing from designers that are true couturiers

  3. Wow! Sonu you blew me away with the black day time dress. So summery and perfect! You look absolutely stunning in the evening gown Sonu. Very elegant. I am not a fan of the gown but her smile and her dusky skin are her best accessories.

      • Pardon my ignorance on skin tones. ‘Dusky’ in the sense I meant it as a rich color. I have a fascination for the word ‘dusky’ and I used it on Sonam. 🙂 Beneath all the cakey makeup, Sonam really has a great skin color. She should flaunt it.

      • Anon I don’t think it’s burnt toast, it’s “chocolatey”. And I think Sonam’s skin color is “caramel”. Hmm… I some how feel we both are foodies. 😛

  4. Agree with you about loving the day dress. Initially I was also on the fence about the evening gown but the perfect styling and the drama it creates makes me like it.

Although, generally, she is knocking it out the park, I hope Sonam does something completely different next. So far there’s been some sort of unifying thread between each successive outfit: colour palette, silhouette etc. It may be a little unfair to expect a 10/10 uniquely amazing look every time but Sonam has spoiled me by setting those standards for herself.

  5. She really killed it this time. I can’t stand sonam kapoor but you have to give credit when it’s due
Everything from the make up to the drama is on point . Don’t know why her make up artist in India does such a bad job on her..here she is looking absolutely stunning with no white shades

    • It’s the same make-up artist – Namrata Soni. She is generally a fabulous MUA but with Sonam, somehow she has had more misses than hits, but the hits have been bloody damn good!!

    • It’s the same MUA in Cannes too. Sonam took her along 🙂 I agree..she did a great job now with all these appearances. She didn’t cake up her face with foundation two shades lighter and took care with under eye makeup which always used to turn ghostly under flash.

  6. She does look statuesque in the gown look (Pic 2, wow!). But then those arm gloves end up making the look pageantish. Lurveee the dress look. That hairdo looks great! Not feeling the heels so much. Would have liked pumps with that dress. 🙂

  7. She looks much better in these outfits than what she’s been wearing recently. I really don’t understand why she insists on wearing white coloured clothes. They don’t suit her at all.

  8. OMG! She has nailed it in each look this year.. loving everything about both the looks.. C’mon P&P you gotta admit this has been her best year. As a celeb hailing from the Indian film industry, she has killed it on an international red carpet. She can give the A listers of Hollywood a run for their money on the red carpet. So proud of her! You go girl!

  9. She looks fantastic in both dresses. The short dress accentuates her narrow waistline and the evening gown hints at those long legs without looking tacky. Makeup and hair….spot on. She had a good run this year.

  10. She looks great in both dresses! I feel though that the black one is too edgy for the diamonds that Chopard has provided–R&R are edgy and Chopard classic and timeless–so this seems to be a mismatch for me. Somehow whenever she wears strappy or strapless numbers, it somehow feels that she has chosen a bustier which is one size too small.

  11. Don’t like either that much
Hate the hair in the day event

Evening dress is an odd box shape and again Hate the hair. I don’t like the incomplete lining either.
She has nailed the make up though at all events

  12. Love the morning dress. Would buy it. I think the issue with the dress she wore at night is it doesn’t photograph too well. She pulls it off.

  13. The day time dress looks good because she has the height to work it, cant imagine it working on someone short with the peplum & the flare will totally stunt them. Good to see sandals rather than the boring pumps. I like the drama of the gown with gloves & the works too . But the gown would have been better if the bustier part was well designed, it looks not so good in the upclose pic.

  14. How is this appropriate and amazing? Another example of overdressed “gown” to a cocktail that warranted a sleek silhouette – something more young. You guys go overboard expecting 40 year olds to understand global fashion – however when this self proclaimed fashionista dresses like a frump – albeit in expensive, good looking clothes, all’s well? She continues to try just that little too hard to be able to look smashing. She just wants to pretend to be a disney princess, any trends post that don’t exist for her.

    • Speak for yourself. Granted, some comments about the 40 year old were harsh. But if that 40 year ‘icon’ has 15 years of Cannes experience, globally renowned, labelled as most beautiful woman in the world, with access to anything (fashion or otherwise), approx 25 year experience in the fashion world, brand ambassador to fashion; then, YES I do expect her to understand global fashion. It’s a fact (you don’t have to like it because sometimes I don’t either) that Sonam is passionate about fashion. She constantly experiments, over dresses, over paints her face but boy it makes me sit up and take notice. To call her a frump is downright rude…at what angle did she look or remotely dress like a frump? Give this kid her dues because she looked ‘freaking’ amazing at times….yep did well this year. And, if anything, her smile was far more genuine than the 40 year old on the red carpet. Speaking of which, the 40 year old looked pretty good as well (except the purple lips). AND…there is absolutely nothing wrong in pretending to be a Disney princess.

      • You nailed it. I dont get this bias against sonam. I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion & yes sonam over dresses but if one were to make a comparison of number of times one nailed their look divided the total number of looks, sonam wins hands down. Ash is naturally pretty and has more experience but she has not been successful in leveraging these two strengths on the red carpet. Why cant she hire a stylist? It is not like she is short of money. On the other hand, Sonam had worked hard for this and she deserves all the applause. It goes to prove that you can look prettier than the most beautiful women in the world if you apply your heart to it.

  15. Yes, she looks great in the day dress, very fresh and youthful! But not bad in the evening dress either, maybe a bit too intense of a look.

  16. The problem with Sonam is that she overdoes it. Way way over the line. If all the had was the the black dress and the necklace- it would be perfect. The dress+necklace+gloves= tackfest.

Deepika wore Ralph and Russo to the Filmfare- way classier than this(there too the dress had a risque back, but she didn’t overdo the accessories).

I remember Malaika or someone in an interview said that her mom told her, stop dressing up at the last accessory and stop eating just before you feel full.

Hate the gloves in the evening look. Not crazy about the dress either, I like the sheer skirt but the bustier looks too small for her.
Love the daytime dress though, it’s really pretty!

  17. The chopard look reminds me so much of Rihanna’s look at the 2014 Victoria’s Secret fashion show! Anyone?
But yeah not a fan! It comes of a little try-hard, she doesn’t have that edge! But she TOTALLY killed it in the morning look! She exemplifies a movie star! Loved that look!
