Double The Dose

Is this a newfangled way of stay ‘In Character‘ of Ms. Khan’s? Because you promote a period film, your clothes ought to be dated too?

We can’t decide which was more of a let-down… the traditional avatar where the color completely fell flat and the dupatta had us itching to correct it or the western outfit with it’s terrible throwback to ‘Little House On The Prairie’. Which?

  1. the dupatta aside, she looks radiant in the traditional wear. and i cant take my eyes off the jimmy choos she’s wearing in the first pic. that’s a ‘lance’ from the spring 2010 collection, methinks.

  2. the girl’s from a middle class background..very grounded.. she weighed 100 KILOS bfr so we can applaud her great effort! besides its refreshing to see someone not trying to look sexy to get more movies!

  3. i really don’t like the western outfit. it looks so blah. i like the indian outfit. if only she managed her dupatta properly. she’s a very pretty girl. it was mean of them to make her so motu for the film.

  4. Shes not looking THAT bad actually. Agreed the skirt and flouncy top arn’t the height of fashion but the anarkalli is nice and she suits desi wear alot. She has such a sweet face you can’t help but forgive her fashion faux pas!

  5. oh, I thought she looked cute in both outfits.
    (Okay, dont bash me up).

Honestly, the untidy dupatta look I find cute. Shows a nice casual attitude even though its the premiere of her debut!..and it kind of shows this new-awkward-little-lamb-in-bollywood to me, that I find very cute and refreshing. Too prim and propah would have made her look like a wannabe.

The western dress also I find cute.. even if it is period/dated looking. Seems like she has the face to carry off Old English style, no?

  6. Come off it!!! Im sure she didnt wear the duppata like that FOR THE WHOLE EVENT!! It’s obviously just slipped onto the floor…I think she looked good at the Veer event. The black and white outfit would have looked hideous on some, but she manages to make it ok-ish.

  7. Am I the only one who likes the traditional outfit? I think it’s very different (in a good way) from what we see on other celebs. Though, she would have done a better job with the dupatta.

  8. I think P & P are being too hard on her calling her look dated. So many ppl get featured without that tag.One striking example is Vidya Balan and her outfits !

  9. The only time I can remember someone pulling off a long skirt and looking ABSOLUTELY lovely is Rani Mukherjee in “Chalte Chalte” during the song “Suno na suno na.”
I know this isnt conventional, but with a different shirt and MAYBE black boots, Zarine would have looked GOOOD.
I would have to see it to see what it looked like.. but the outfit just reminded me of Rani in that song… which I absolutely loved.

  10. She’s so pretty … like idk there’s something about her that looks like actresses from the yeaster-years. =/ She’s kinda sorta got that Madhubala beauty huh?

Anyways I just wish she would start dressing a bit better. I mean her outfits in Veer are like 10 times better than what she wears irl.

  11. im really not sure if u have something against this girl zarine or ur actually speaking based on ur expertise..she looked quite good in her traditional atttire,so what about her dupatta ? its not the end of the world, things like that happen on practically everyone..and what exactly is wrong with her ‘little house on the prairie’ outfit? is it wrong for her dig that sort of style..i dont think so..not everyone is fond of following trends i must add, she’s doing fine just being her self

    • agree. i think as a new-comer she looks really good and confident.that should be it.
she has long years in front of her to bloom into what she is being compared to at this stage

  12. The skirt, the belt and maybe while i am at it.. the ruffled top too – look all cheap. The Goldilocks flimy hair is an overkill if you are out in public and not spotted dancing around trees. The salwar kameez is much better but plz let the sweeper keep his job.

  13. Hmm I’m actually kind of impressed with her appearances, she looks a step higher than other newbies (Genalia when she was new and others I can’t remember). Her face, her name, her attire already scream B list actress instead of C.

  14. Hmm…OK she is beautiful and she doesnt look badin her salwar. Her look at the races though? Noooo!!! Whats with the cheap flouncy skirt? Aarrgghhh!!!

And talk about wasted opportunity: she’s starring in one of the most expensive costume dramas of all times (in Bollywood) with rather fabulously elaborate costumes (from what little I have seen of it) and she looks exactly like a woman in Victorian Britain dominated India should: demure feminine features, flawless ‘British Rose’ procelain complexion et al. AND to add to all that, she’s at a equestrian race which is the perfect occasion for’in charecter’ and THIS was the best she could do?

Whatever happened to stumptous Victorian chic in a modern context? Dainty gloves, elaborate hats, bell sleeves, full structured skirts, chiffon, lace, (well-constructed) ruffles…aaahhh.

Surely the least the Veer team could have done was to hire Zarine a good stylist or create some contemporary victorian clothes for her promotional appearances given how much research and expense went into the film’s costumes? Oh. Well

    • Ummm… in my opinion only, whatever money was put into the costumes of Veer definitely doesn’t show…

It looks (from the promos only) like a cheap 3rd rate English play at the local Natya mandir with costumes from Maganlal Dresswala. Anyone who’s done even a basic history of fashion course, or even copied blatantly from Young Victoria, would give a better look and feel of Victorian England than the current Production designer. I mean, gloves with lehengas, the hero dressed like P. Diddy in pleather pants and corduroy, Greek body armour, 19th cent. schoolgirls in Scottish kilts- what was he smoking? Gaah-I saw red just watching the trailer…! I mean- if they’d diverted even one- tenth the film’s budget away from paying the heroes’ salaries and chest waxers, towards the costume and set departments, we’d have had a passable movie on our hands…

So coming back to what she’s wearing- absolutely no surprise there!

  15. Oh I think she looks lovely in both the outfits… I am a big fan of long skirts.. and as ‘Coffee’ says that last time you remember someone looking good was Rani in chalte chalte (i cldnt quite make myself like her in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic long skirt) Zarine looks cute…and the shoes in first pic are lovely..

  16. Oh My! She looks gorgeous in the traditional wear. I’ve become so tired of everyone wearing the same outfits from Manish Arora, Sabya sachi that now all I crave is classy traditional just the way Zarine is wearing.

  17. Actually she looks really nice here. She’s taken a huge step up hair and makeup-wise. Her previous appearances were leaning towards the “aunty” look, but here she’s looking classically beautiful (again hair and makeup-wise). Maybe her fashion sense will pick up as well.

  18. She actually loks really, really nice in the Indian outfit. The skirt in the western outfit could be better, but the ruffles, bag and shoes are nice and she is quite pretty

  19. Her hair do’s are nice….i mean really, compare to some of the ladies that come out looking great but have poor hair styles. what’s up with that?
At least shes making an effort!!! and she doesn’t look that bad. One suggestion that belt has to go…
