WLIFW Spring 2013: Surily

Aztec prints, pops of neon, beaded/embellished pieces and fringe accents, Surily’s latest showing had ’em all. With its easy jumpsuits, dresses and separates, the collection is sure to be a favorite among the designer’s many celebrity friends.

While the collection was very commercial, it also felt hugely derivative of what’s already out there. The embellished aztec prints hint at All Saints, the tassel hem brings to mind Opening Ceremony, the fringe on printed dresses reminds one of Missoni and the chain-embellished tops say Malandrino. Just saying.

  1. You can’t really expect creativity from every designer…Indian fashion weeks have shown me this very sad truth.

    And Surily is no exception.

  2. If you guys have the time and patience, I think you should check BCBG catalog for spring 2012 or summer (forgot which one).

The first dress in the second and third rows above seems wayyyy too familiar and I remember seeing something like that from BCBG few months ago.

Do they HAVE to show a collection that they copied if they can’t get themselves to be creative a season? arggggg

    • Actually just check BCBG website and their sale section. You would be confused as to weather you are seeing Surily’s collection for BCBG 😉

  3. Hi Priyanka, glad you pointed out that the name of the brands, the designer might have taken inspiration from and reading the comments you can’t help but agree that BCBG might have been a reference point too. Looking at some of the details, I thought Sass and Bide from many moons ago, also because the designer used to patronise Sass and Bide. 😉

  4. The Aztec print is even in the same colours (grey, orange, white) as All Saints! And considering that look got so much attention in Bwood, it’s puzzling that it figures so predominantly in her collection.
