Oh Boy!

Oh look, our very own homespun tweedle dee and tweedle dum… Whaddya make of their look? You are forgiven for having to resist the sudden urge to order chicken boti or burst in to a qawwali. Or you know, wonder out aloud just which rabbit hole you fell in to!

  1. Not sure what you are insinuating by referring to boti and qawaali. They are dressed badly so they must be a certain ethnicity? at least that is what I understood and I think it is an unfair comment to make. Been reading HHC for years, this is the first time felt like uneasy about a remark you made.

    • Umm, no. Not one bit! Only meant that the shiny, tackiness of their outfits reminds us of servers/ushers in some desi restaurants and/or of the back-up qawwals of glorious eighties/early-nineties Hindi cinema. Don’t read too much in to it… We weren’t throwing shade and certainly meant no offense. Thanks!

    • Agree. First time ever that I have been uncomfortable with sthg you gals have written. I can get your PoV once you explained it. But it isn’t obvious at first read. Guess a lil second-read before posting may help avoid any wrong references in the future.

  2. I don’t get the food reference at all. What are you trying to say? – that they look good or bad? Or they look similar or not? So confused..

  4. The comment was pure ignorance.
Your exposure to a certain culture is limited to movies from the 80’s and servers/ushers in desi(read Mughlai) restaurants . What the men above are wearing is considered formal dressing in certain cultures.
Men who wear bow-ties and tuxes formally aren’t referred to as waiters by you are they?

    • Again, reading way too much in to it. It was tackiness of the outfit that was being mocked not the kind of outfit they chose. Pretty much the same we would with a sari, suit, tux or dress.

  6. hey, thanks for clarifying. But with so many readers getting the wrong end of it, perhaps you can change/edit/remove your comment? I just get a feeling that by insisting on asking us not to read too much into it, its only getting worse. my two cents.

  7. Please, I was born and brought up in Delhi and the comment evinced a frown, forget laughing out loud. and by not publishing my second comment, you have made your intentions behind the comment even more clear.
