Sari Style

Contrary to how it might have seemed, we were enjoying Vidya’s non-sari experimental phase. Yes, we were giving her grief but only because we know the look that eludes her is around the corner, and she only needs to soldier on to find the xanadu that is her voice, a stylist’s dream and us voyeurs’ wishes come true.

As much as saris work for her, we’d love to see her go on mixing it up. Mixing it up, not abandon the sari altogether. Here’s hoping this latest appearance of hers on the sets of a TV show doesn’t mean it’s back to same ol’ same ol’.

  1. Disagree. She should stick to this. After a long time she’s looking good. Why should she go for the Non-sari experiment when she never looked good.

  2. Maybe you mean “the look that eludes her”. Yeah, yeah, I know this is a fashion blog, not a grammar blog, but still…..

  3. You know in high school when every one picks on one person, so the losers start doing it too, to look good. Please don’t do that. Dignified women don’t contradict themselves that too in such a short span. It’s borderline bullying and quite honestly- hideous!
She looks good when she looks good, despite the origin of country of the styling.

    • Agree! Absolutely nothing wrong with her wearing what she feels most comfortable wearing! Now if she is willing to experiment then by all means, we voyuers will look and comment.. but please by no means, suggest that what looks good on her should stop only for the sake of experimentation! Rock that saree, Vidya!

  4. I agree with other commentators. Vidya has failed miserable in every experiment other than these saris. She should stick to them.

  5. I must say Vidya does look the best in sarees. While the color of this saree is lovely on Vidya the wide border so close to her face is unflattering….just a minor gripe! Anyway, everything else is perfect.

  6. You give her grief and now you say you were doing it coz you wanted her to do better. When she plays it safe and sticks to what works for her you say she is boring. Frankly, I think you have a pretty bad parenting style.

  7. Did Vidya do something to you guys ? you seem to be particularly harsh on her, it seems almost personal. She will never get it right in your eyes….and no wonder she does not care .

    • Agreed! I noticed that too and I don’t even care for Vidya that much. Some of the comments made by P & P are hilariously petty. But if someone interacts with them via Twitter (ahem Sonam) they will praise the shittiest of her outfits. Sonam makes them feel like maybe they fit in with the “elite” or something. Get over it! You have talents that surpasses hers. Just please stop 😐 losing credibility over here sistas!

      • This is hilarious how the comment had a high” Get over it”! And then ended up stating ” Just please stop..losing credibility over here sistas!” It’s like you are begging P&P to be nice to her. Ha ha ha/

    • Nah. You must be a pretty newcomer to HHC. I feel P&P gives way too much lenience/credit when it comes to people like Vidya Balan who are in a particular body type. If some other celeb would be doing these horror looks that she has been doing and has done in the past, they would have put them in wtheys for sure.

  8. She looks lovely… And the casual draping style is what makes it work for her… The next post with the payal singhal sari, the draping is too severe and makes her look a lil too broad shouldered…

  9. Beautiful. and what’s wrong with same ole same ole? She changes up the hair and make up doesn’t she? Or is it because its a saree ?

  10. I think she looks beautiful. The color is very good on her. The border is a little too wide… but overall this is a good look. Love her hair and makeup.

  11. Though I have never commented on any of the posts before or may be on a few a long time back but now I can’t stop myself from asking this – why such an obsession with Ms Balan ?? She knows her craft well, comes across as an intelligent well read woman in all her interviews which is a rarity in bollywood. At a time when models and actresses across the world are under attack for setting up unreal images of beauty and fashion for young girls Ms Balan takes a bow from me for unapologetically standing by who she is..a curvy sari wearing real looking Indian woman – afterall majority of the women whom she entertains fall in this category only. All of us may not be able to dress in a McQueen but a simple nice sari can be afforded by anyone so yes when I look at her I feel happy. Also if all Hollywood actresses who wear gowns are not ridiculed for not wearing saris or kurtas why do you subject ppl like her to “same old same old” rant. She is here to act not walk the ramp and acting she does far better than Sonam Kapoor..never read if Meryl Streep was more dissected for her fashion choices. Vidya dresses as per her heart ,her comfort and that’s how it should be done. If its not fasionable enough for you then don’t feature her here !!

    • That’s what I have been ranting since I don’t know when. Ms. Balan knows her job and she can thrive in the industry even without her being featured on HHC.

  13. God, some people here are atrocious! People condemn Vidya when she’s western, and then don’t cut her any slack when she’s clad in traditional either. It’s impossible to satisfy everyone and I’m glad that Vidya doesn’t pay attention to the rubbish that’s said about her. I think she looks lovely, and even if she looks like an “auntie”, a really damn beautiful one at that!
