High Heel Confidential

In Sabyasachi.

January 4th, 2010 at 5:02 pm . by Payal

Considering we’ve seen Manish Malhotra do metallic gold (seen on Rani) and not love it much, what do you think of this Sabyasachi on Vidya? Love it or hate it?

Me thinks the contrast between the metallic part and the yellow is too much.

  1. Roni says:

This is a really dud looking sari which I personally would never wear irrespective of the label.

  2. shruti says:

I like the border & The yellow in the sari. I think the metallic part kills the sari. Maybe some plain material would have looked better.

  3. Madhu says:

LOVE. I personally like the contrast a lot. How amazing does she look?

  4. Indian Girl says:

I like this (minus the yellow) a LOT more than Rani’s. This saree seems a lot more fluid and metallic compared to Rani’s golden net…I’d like an eyeshadow in that shade – awesomeness !

  5. ashbaby says:

She is looking nice but the sari is a bit strange, I am not getting the concept….looks like a cross bw Sabya and Satya Paul :)

  6. NFashionB says:

I like the metallic part of sari but as i scrolled down the picture …dirty yellow triangular thing…is yucky…no match ,no contrast..i dont like sabytasachi creations much.Seems he simply does cut-paste .Aish ’s saree on oprah was no good.

  7. mia says:

sari is a bit experimental but it’s still tons better than those blingy netty tacky ones that some celebrities wear. her figure is looking nice too.

  8. T says:

cotton with synthetic and then shiney material … such a gory combination !! hurts my eye …

and what’s with Vidya only wearing Sabyasachi these days , some exclusive contract ??

  9. Chandra says:

I like the sheen of Rani’s saree but do not like anything about this metallic one. I only like the border and the blouse! However on Rani’s I didn’t like the velvet border. I thought it made the saree look a little cheap (which I am sure it is not!)

PS – Recently discovered this blog and I looove it!

  10. SK says:

this is so unique… im loving it for the sheer uniqueness and for the fact that i wud never expect our safe vidya to wear something like this.
she looks a bit uncomfortable tho…a more confident woman wud have totally rocked this saree.
rani’s saree – nope nope and another nope.

  11. J says:

Ok now Ash’s sari on Oprah was outstanding as far as I’m concerned. But this is bad…oh so bad. Since I am a devoted Sabyasachi fan and he can do no wrong, I am going to cover up for him thinking maybe the metallic was a dull fabric that just didn’t photograph correctly. As for the yellow, can deal with that.

  12. charan says:

the whole thing seems like a after thought. Ugly!

  13. Shivani says:

love vidya, not so much the sari.

  14. pdaervo says:

I think if were a yellower gold…then it would have worked. I LOVE the floral part of it though,

  15. GG says:

I read the post and then was scrolling down thinking ” Hey nice sari , din’t know mettalic could look so good.” And then the unthinkable happened..I mean how ..really how does one design such a sari and how does one even choose to wear it.

  16. HHCPANKHA says:

yellow part is nice….metallic part eeks….

  17. SS says:

I love how delightfully winsome she looks; she always appears at ease with herself, graceful and like she’s having fun. I agree with P&P about the saree – if the non-metallic part of the saree were more in sync with the metallic part, maybe something in plain black or dark green or red, I’d love the saree; the yellow floral bit is just too out of place.

  18. Saya says:

    Ghastly!

  19. lurverlurver says:

this outfit is ghastly..I dun care if gucci designed it.. i would not wear it……

  20. Dits says:

I liked the upper part of the picture, the yellow just doesn’t work for me. And the MM velvelty stuff? Ill keep off that too

  21. Kanira says:

    UGLY.

  22. priya says:

awful sari. I wouldn’t wear this sari even if I was paid to wear it. I wouldn’t be caught dead or alive in it!

  23. Hans says:

I hate it!the upper part is tolerable bt when u scroll down…well it’s a disaster..!!!

  24. megha says:

    wow that’s one ugly sari

I’m starting to like sabyaaachi less and less
it’s almost as though he feels he can put anything out there because there are so many who will buy his saris for his name…and seem almost blind to what it actually looks like

wish vidya would go back to her anarkalis

  25. RM says:

Ughhhh. why the yellow and that too floral… though metallic again is not something which suits everyone.. but if you ignore the yellow, Vidya seems to be carrying it well .. but the yellow floral.. eeks

  26. shyba says:

I liked this…..Sabya knows hw to experiment with colors

  27. Chiklet says:

Love the saree, but not the yellow part. Wish it was kept the same color as the rest of the saree or the color of the border. Vidya should become the brand ambassador for sabya :) Also wish she’d done something with her hair.

  28. preetidutta says:

is she wearing too dupattas …one in yello and one in mettalic …i dont mind the metalic one but yucc on that yellow …sab is for loaded aunties ..i’ll rather wear MM.

  29. Shweta says:

hahaha never seen such a weird looking saree…what a drastic mismatch!! Designers, for heaven’s sake please go learn your basics coz people don’t wanna end up looking like ol’ jesters!!
Don’t believe they charge hefty dough for such tacky pieces!! Give us a break now….

  30. sania chaudhri says:

very synthetic looking….shes in a rut,get out of it and experiment before you turn boring!

  31. diptiN says:

I do not like the metaic green color of the sari, but he yellow peek a boo part is quite unique. I am hoping that she will soon move on to a better look. first it was the anarkali, now the sari, baby steps….

  32. sana says:

i think he has tried to mix CHEET and block print with that ugly mettalic fabric….ethnic and lurex dont go….she looks perfect though!

  33. Stuti says:

The next bit I am going to say gives me immense pain. So I will just get to it. I hate the saree. I am a Sabyasachi lover, dream of wearing his stuff(literally). Yeah, that’s how sad and in love I am.
But even that isnt enough for me to take in this monstrosity. Ugly. Ugly. Ugly.

  34. lin says:

I would take MM anyday rather than this Sabya lame` floral mess. Phew….I can’t believe I said that!!!

  35. nithya says:

i like vidya, i think she can look beautiful if dressed well.. i think she shoulds top experimenting and stick to basics.. i have no idea y she ends up with an incomplete look all the time!!

  36. DressyDresser says:

Ugh..THIS is Yawnanza…even more boring than Priyanka’s short dresses.I can’t see any more of Vidya in saris or anarkalis!!

  37. madhu says:

HIDEOUS!!! Its like a Bar dancer meets Chameli… horrid horrid horrid!

  38. katya says:

Why does she look so washed out?

  39. Anubha says:

The yellow looks like some idea stolen from garden vareli ad (rewind to 80’s) .

  40. Tvish says:

The metallic part seems like lurex…I doubt it’s wearable as a sari :S
Apart from the border, nothing catches my fancy

  41. arpitha says:

Yellow part and the metalic part are good separately. They need some other contrasting colors.
Like the yellow flowers part may look good with light yellow sari. The metalic may look good with the border color and design in the front instead of yellow red flowers.
Also the metallic sari needs a little fitter body, she looks fat in that metallic sari.

    • sri says:

agreed. also wish the gold metallic shud have been grey metallic. then the contrast wud have looked better. btw, the saree is not seen well in this photograph! its clear in the rest of the pics

      • sri says:

p.s. i wish the yellow floral print was smaller. but overall all the saree is quite creative rather than the run of the mill kinds. it looks good from afar. i liked the 9th pic :) but like someone said a more confident lady wud have carried it better

  42. aishwarya says:

    its definately a diasaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. Yellow or not, metallic or not, I just really hate it. I wonder how someone would agree to wear it.

  44. AnnMMMM says:

okay i never thought i would say this for a Sabyasachi creation but this UGLY

  45. Mim says:

I think this is one of those polarizing pieces which either you love or hate. I also think that perhaps the flashbulbs affected the fabric in not a good way. In this image, it looks like parts of two different saris. That being said, Vidya has face in this one. And what a face. :)

  46. sundara says:

Love the saree blouse and the beads all together it makes such a visual impact, its a piece of art and not the same old stuff everyone mimics. Also the saree is well worn.

  47. free_spir1t says:

Poor Vidya! She really is out of her depth, she has no style. She needs a makeover, she has the same hairstyle since Parineeta days, she needs to experiment with eyebrow shapes, she needs to work with her body shape. Saree & Indian wear looks good on her, but this is really ghastly. The shine in the saree makes her plumper than she is. It does not work with the yellow/mustard part. Very boring! as always…

  48. emer says:

wow just goes to show even Sabya can go wrong!

  49. Prem Rogue says:

Does Sabya think he can get away with anything now? This is one of the ghastliest saris I have ever seen in my life. And I am thoroughly fed up of Sabya’s standard ‘patchwork-of-earthy-colours-and-random-patterns’. Sabya is a tailor, not a DESIGNER. There, I said it.

  50. Varsha says:

God awful Sari. Vidya still retains her behnji look. Hair is an oily mess. She needs a makeover, seriously!

  51. vik says:

i like…..:) its differnt, i think its one of those sarees which you would either love or hate! but i do think vidya does look nice, and it is also flattering for her figure! and come on guys we’ve seen MUCCCCH worse on vidya in the past! lolz
