For a recent Awards night, Vidya picked a Gaurang paithani sari. Wearing her hair back, the actor finished out the look with a bindi and gold temple jewelry. Like what you see?

  1. That is one ugly saree, Vidya just doesn’t know how to choose a saree. This kind of saree make Vidya look like old AUNTIE. She shud pick saree with small border.

  2. I actually like the beautiful handloom saree but the border print is probably too wide for a shorter person. The blouse clashes as well, a similar shade of pink (or coral, red?) blouse would have worked better.

  3. Paithani? Really?
A paithani always has a peacock design on it’s and sometimes on the border as well. Also the border is never this big. This sari is nowhere close to being called a paithani.

      • It will take just a Google search for anyone to know that this saree isn’t a paithani, don’t understand why the designer is claming it to be so.Paithani even has it’s Wikipedia page that mentions the type of motifs it has.

    • This is very much a paithani weave… weave being the keyword here.
Yes, a traditional paithani has a smaller border and peacock motif..
This being a ‘Gaurang’ saree…i am guessing the designer got this custom made, asking the weavers to use the paithani weaving technique but with a broader border and no peacock motif… otherwise how would it be a ‘Gaurang’.. ?? But the color, fabric and weave is classic paithani , hence it is a ‘Gaurang’ paithani…
On another note, I do not understand the hype about this Gaurang guy.. all he does is take the classic weaves and handlooms in loud/bold colors and give it his name… !!!

      • This is a paithani. There are about 5-6 different kinds – the peacock motif being one of them. The border with flowers and vines is called a asawali which is a kind of paithani.

  4. I had heard so much about Gaurang that I decided to visit the store for my wedding saree. Several sarees looked like replicas of cheap quality sarees(even though they weren’t cheap in terms of quality) and most others were really garish. Some sarees were so bright that one couldn’t see the designs on them. I couldn’t understand why there was so much talk over the label. I then went to Ekaya and found it way better. They have some really beautiful and simple designs in a variety of lovely colours. I bought a saree from them.

    • And he is super expensive, this saree vidya is wearing must be in the 3-4 lakh range. I asked a few of his prices for less grander sarees and he said 2 lakhs. Sure he’s using pure zari, fine silk ect. but I’m thinking you can pick up very similar sarees from any specialist kanchivarram stores for half that price. His designs arn’t anything super different either. I also think ekaya does very lovely designs for a more affordable price.

  5. What’s with 3/4 saree blouses every single time..there are so many styles and yet it’s the same ol’ same ol’ all the time. Sharmila ji and Waheeda ji too wear sarees all the time but look at how elegant they turn out.

  6. Its a beautiful saree in itself but vidya just cant carry it off. I don’t get it, she’s a lovely looking women why don’t clothes ever look ‘right’ on her? You’d think sarees would look fab on her but even these fall flat. Is it just she lacks style or what?

  7. Some women always get it wrong 9 times out 10. Aishwarya’s AJSK tents and this particular three quarter sleeved blouse and open pallu saree look of vidya which she’s doing for years non stop. They’ve got God gifted faces why can’t they wear nice simple elegant clothes that enhance their natural beauty?

  8. I thought it was a well known knowledge to avoid broad borders or double ended borders if you are shorter person. It makes you looks shorter. Sari is beautiful, but it is not made for Vidya.
