In Asmita Marwa

Ms. Balan served as Grand Marshall at the India Day parade in Manhattan and for the appearance wore an Asmita Marwa kalamkari lehenga that was quite a welcome change. Also a welcome change, the hair do. From what we see, we really like.

P.S. Catch her in a Shruti Sancheti inside.

  1. Why din’t Ms.Balan dress like this in Cannes!!!!!! This is such a relaxed, breezy look as opposed to the extremely contrived, stiff, overly made up (Dupatta on the head) look we were forced to see in Cannes…. but none the less… she looks gorgeous here!!

  2. She looks drop dead gorgeous in that Lehenga-sari! Hats off to Jayati Bose(her stylist) for finally giving her clothes that enhance her curves! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. A biggggg thank you Ms. balan for giving sabya and the most predictable looks a break…points for changing the hair also…after zillions year she got the hair make up jewellery right…what amazes me even more is her opting not only different desginer but also “Kalamkari” .Love the fact.

in her second look the pattern is same as that of minisha’s recent look but the length kiileed it for minisha and this look shows how can proper alterations change things…BUT what is that thing hanging at the front??

  4. Love it..So refreshing to see this chance..Minor gripe would be the length of the lehenga, seems like it’s dragging on the floor..maybe higher heels? Overall, she looked Gooood!

  5. The right term would be pavada dhavni. That is NOT a lehenga. She looks much better from her same old sarees but somehow the pavda dhavani does not suit her. It’s like she is trying too hard. Plus she decided to sweep all the garbage off the floor with her flowing pavada i guess. The one in the anarkali is a WTHey, it’s like those dark days of VidyaB from pre Sabya days. Ha ha!

  8. LOVE her in both looks and am so glad she’s moving out of wearing Sabyasachi sarees 24/7 and experimenting with other looks while still staying true to her style! Great make-up and accessories too!

  9. Love her hair and make up. The lehenga is wonderful however the dupatta or pallu is very dull. Esp for such an occasion! She needs to pop amongst all those people!

  10. Awwww so pretty!! She looks like a younger Sharmila Tagore to me for some reason in pic 2. Can we all say yayyy, finally, Ms Balan has found her sweet spot in traditional clothes!! The bottom picture though, that dress is unflattering, and a look Ms Balan has done many times before.
