Sari Style

Wearing a traditional pattu sari, Vidya attended Ronnie Screwvala’s daughter, Trishya’s wedding reception. Bindi aside, the actor finished out the look with jewelry from Amrapali and Suhana Art and Jewels.

Ms. Balan looked absolutely lovely in her sari. But boy, what wouldn’t we give to see that necklace disappear; that clunky piece of jewelry was a total bummer!

  1. She looks lovely. The necklace reminds me of a conference name tag but it wasn’t a deal breaker considering how gorgeous the colors of the saree look on her.

  2. PnP. Why the constant negativity towards Vidya? Not judging just questioning. The colors of the sari are so pretty, yes the necklace may have been avoided, buts its certainly not the deal breaker you make it out to be. And this isn’t an isolated case of you picking on her.
Neha has fared in far worse and she always seems to get away with barely a slap on the wrist.
Vidya is her own woman and has her own style. She stays close to that. And looks great in it. And we love seeing her in it.
I get that this is your blog and your voice, but given the number of readers you have it would help to be more inclusive of tastes different from your own.

  3. That is a beautiful saree and the colors look absolutely gorgeous on her. I just wish the drape was better and I agree, that necklace needs to disappear from the face of this earth!

  4. I have a very similar saree n was sold to me as kanjeevaram. The one here in picture too looks kanjeevaram to me or is pattu some form of kanjeevaram? Pls throw some light!

    • This is a Kanjeevaram saree. But there are many varieties, models and patterns in kanjeevaram sarees. And also latest and antique types. If you go to Hyderabad, Chennai or any other South Indian city you can find various types of beautiful Kanjeevaram sarees in any silk saree shops. I think you can find them in North Indian cities too, I don’t know much about it. Hope it helps. 🙂

      • Moni, as far as my Kanchivaram silk saree shopping experience goes, I went to Nalli silks, South India shopping mall, CMR shopping mall, Kalamandir, Meena Bazar, Chadana Brothers, R S Brothers etc in Hyderabad. But I didn’t like their collection much. I bought many Kanchi silk sarees in Kalanikethan wedding mall and Kalanjali saree mall (in Hyderabad) between the price range of 22,000 rupees to 35,000 rupees. They have the loveliest, soft collection. They have many stores in South India. I can confidently say I have 1000 times better Kanchivaram sarees than I had seen on this blog. Meena Bazar has good Benarasi collection. I bought some.

I did some research for you on google. Kalanikethan and Kalanjali doesn’t have stores in Delhi. But Kalanjali has online website which ships sarees. They have some good stuff. You can check and purchase. Kalanikethan doesn’t have an online website, the ones which you see are not the Hyderabad store one’s. But there is one online shopping site, Sakhifashions which retails globally. Sakhifashions has the best collection of silk, handwoven and all types of sarees from all parts of India. They have stores in Bangalore and Hyderabad. You can definitely buy from their online store. It is by two mom & daughter designers. They have the most exquisite collection. I am going to buy from there now for sure. I can’t miss them . 😀

          • Yes Meena Bazaar doesn’t have good silk sarees. I bought some Benaras Georgette sarees there. I did look into Sakhifashions website yesterday, they have some good pieces in Organza, Kota silk, Cutwork and Kalamkari sarees. We can buy them. But their silk sarees are double price. I bought double grand and much more beautiful Kanchi silk sarees in Kalanikethan and Kalanjali for the half price. It is best to buy silk sarees in a store because we check the quality by hand and we get lot of variety with less price. So I will not buy Kanchi silk sarees from Sakhifashions.

I like to go silk saree shopping and gold jewellery shopping in Hyderabad with my family. It’s fun, you get to see lot of beautiful stuff. If I think about my Kanchivaram sarees, I am drooling.<3 They are in beautiful colors, and so rich. Some people go to Kanchi, Tamilnadu to buy sarees for all their family members for weddings. They get lots of variety for much lesser price. Just keep looking Moni, and I hope you will get some good stuff too. 🙂
