Sari Style

Comment image 33

Having seen Ms. Balan don the same look over (and over) again, makes us want to shake her so hard, she snaps out of the printed blouse/bordered sari rut that she seems to be in. We love our handlooms (and this is not to say hers is bad), but there so many other styles out there that Ms. Balan could do justice too.

This round we’ll give to Raveena, who from what we can see, looks great in printed blouse and red sari.

  1. Agree – this round goes hands down to Raveena. Simply because she experiments with various looks – some of which are hits and some misses. But point being she experiments. Here she looks great!!! Vidya’s sari is nice but neck up me no like. Her hair looks horrible.

    • Yes! OMG i thought the same thing. If she is, then what’s with the ‘i don’t care what i wear’ attitude? (sorry if i sound catty, but seems a lil hypocritical to me)

      • I don’t think she intends to appear nonchalant about her appearance. She does seem to care how she turns up, and therefore chooses the style that she feels suits her best. So the question of being hypocritical doesn’t arise. Being fashionable needn’t always involve hip Western outfits and brands. One could be fashionable and interested in appearances while sticking with a certain style of dressing (which in Viday’s case would be saris and accessories by Sabyasachi).

  2. Is it just my imagination or is La Balan really looking a bit like Waheeda Rehman in the picture on the left? Not that there is anything wrong with that…it is just a look from another era…and it does age her some. Though the colour of the sari is wonderful.

On an aside, got a sms from the designer store in my city that they finally stock Sabya saris…but looking at his latest creations, I think I’ll pass!

      • Dhoop (sunlight) chhau (shade) 🙂

I actually prefer Vidya’s sari too. It may look ‘boring’ but the colour is just so lush and gorgeous, I could keep staring at it. I’d wear that sari in a flash (with a different blouse, not the matronly quarter-length sleeves).

  4. yup… this round goes to raveena purely on the the basis of “experimentation”.
for vidya – honey there’s more than 1 traditional look that you can choose from…for inspiration please dont look to sabya (much as i love him) … just go on a “bharat darshan”

  5. Vidya is not tall and not too thin, wearing a sari of this material makes her look bigger, I wish she would try something that has a softer fall.

  6. phulllease! whats is with this girl, I hate this look, whats with that hair??the whole look makes her look like some tragedy queen from yesteryears, actually even they wore better sarees methinks.

Dear God! Shake away P&P, call me if you need help.

Raveena looks very nice and i actually like the saree on her always like greys with reds, and she doesnt always wear the same look. Love her hoops and no necklace look too.

  7. & why did Vidya have to go sans jewellery……..a nice pair of earrings or somenice neckpiece would have really elevated the look!

  8. While you are at it(shaking her hard that is),do hand her a brush/comb as compliments from HHC! What’s with the unkempt hair and the bad drape every. single. time? I don’t like Raveena’s sari but agreeing with most others for the sole reason she changes it up.

  9. Hmm.. fashion is fickle and we aren’t saints… Bring on some fresh fashion! Its so ironic that everyone is now copying sabyasachi and sabyasachi is becoming boring LOL

  11. There’s such a variety of Saris in such an amazing variety of fabrics available today that wearing the same kind of Sari every single time, even for “style comfort” seems lame.

I am SO over these 3/4 sleeve blouses. It always reminds me of the grandmas in 80s/90s Hindi Cinema.

  12. I just don’t understand..why is she stickin so hard to this.. particular style..?? May be confi matter.. but still.. there are soo soo many Indian traditional dresses that are confertable..yet soo.. creative and stylish. And even sari..can be done with much more style. It hurts Vidya :S
