Maybe Sona’s look is best accessorized with a jhaadu.

      Seriously!
I was surprised that there was even a question out there as to who wears their sari well???

Good to see the jhaadu brigade is out again! Because you know there is no put down like looking like a maid! God that’s like the smartest put down – Sona must immediately take to her bedroom and sob and sob because she has fallen so low sartorially that she looks like a maid!

You know what, get your description right if you want to comment on a fashion blog. She looks bohemian, she is trying to be alternative. No bai would wear anything like that-most bais I know rarely go for the casual, arty effect or Alice bands. In fact I would love to see actual bai fashion here – because more than a few dress much better and are way more authentic than the wannabes on these pages.

On a more serious note, these pages are like a reminder of how classist and racist we are (wearing a sari=behneji, badly tied sari=bai). Its a good thing most of us are too polite to really rip into this. Plus it seems its easier for a bai put down to slip through here than any other kind.

in that case P&P you guys should take off the ghar ki bai comment on Vivica Fox in your earlier pages- it’s offensive. Payal it’s your post, i think.

one just doesn’t drape up a saree so sloppily and expect the look to be called ‘Bohemian’.

And agreed the ‘jhadu’ comment was ‘racist’ or ‘classist’ to be precise, however Sona has this attitude of ‘I am better than all you normal clothes wearing people’ which is why she received such a flak.

Not just the draping of the sari, but the whole look is bohemian, albeit a rather sloppy one. And I completely, agree with MaidinMumbai.

That is so well put ‘MaidinMumbai’ !! Love this sari to start with , updates our national garment . Gives us a reason to wear one casually & with no fuss T’s & such .

I know Sona likes quirky, but channeling her inner bai for public consumption is a bit too much.

      Hahaha!

      “Inner bai”. Wow.

I know we Indians are amongst the most caste ridden & racist people but to see these prejudices spill out on these pages …Puts a mirror to us doesnt it ?! Jhaadu ? Bai ? Wow !

Amen to that. Seriously people, what is with the jhaadu and bai comments? That is a lovely saree, imo. Just draped and accessorised terribly.

      1. Manya at | | Reply

No one is judging the saree. We’re judging the entire look. Which is GOD AWFUL.

      2. kasthuri at | | Reply

I agree. Lovely saree worn terribly. No need to bring it caste/occupations etc into it.

are you guys sort of scared saying anything bad about sona because this is totez a wtheeyyy.

A sari that looks like a curtain , the earrings , the hair & the lipstick .. Dated . Urmila looks stuck in the 80 ‘s or at best 90’s .

How does the strange saree wearing style even merit an appearance on this blog?? Sona is a fashion disaster! Her clothes are always ill flattering and awfully styled. PnP, pls let’s not call what she does fashion! Her ‘experiments’ never pay off! It’s just one terrible outfit after another.

I disagree with everyone. I really loved Sona’s saree, and in my opinion, the indigo blue color with the lotus print is uniquely Indian, earthy and traditional. Pairing it with a black blouse-smart idea. I think she could have draped it better, and perhaps its her pose-hands on hips…is whats contributing to this whole “bai” idea.
Although Urmila looks nice and the sari is draped well, I think the sari itself is pretty awful…its blingy, boring, bakwas…something everyone will wear at a loud Punjabi wedding.(speaking as a Punjabi)

Calling this a bai look is an insult….to the bais.

I can’t believe this look is being classified as bohemian. Just because someone thinks to throw together this hot mess and appear in public in a disheveled state doesn’t merit them being placed in the ‘arty’ bucket. Sabina Chopra does bohemian beautifully, this woman does not.
