The Year That Was: Some Shout-Outs!

Comment image 15

For many reasons, and boy were there some solid reasons, 2016 was quite the year. And so after a well-earned patch of downtime, here we are with a bit of fluff to start off 2017 on a fun note. Below, some shout-outs as we rewind through the past year. (Also, have a category you think would fit in here? Tell us!)

Most Fun With Hair: Alia Bhatt
One day in a preppy ponytail, another in good ol’ Hollywood waves and somewhere in the middle a slew of trendy braids, Alia Bhatt ditched the safe Bollywood blowout for some serious fun with hair, making us think twice before heating that flat iron!

Most Fun With Lip Color: Priyanka Chopra
It’s safe to say that the two words that would pop up in Priyanka Chopra’s lipstick word cloud would be dramatic & dark. Berry, burgundy, red… She even nailed the brown lip without evoking any of that Nineties feeling. And that’s no easy feat.

Made Us Fall In Love With The Traditional: Kangana Ranaut
Enaphee and phanek — two words that hit the headlines one day in December when Kangana Ranaut walked in to launch Bondina Elangbam’s book. And just like that, everyone wanted some Manipuri magic in their wardrobes.

Made Us Give Off-Shoulder A Go: Deepika Padukone
Love them or hate them, or even if just fatigued from seeing them everywhere, Deepika Padukone made sure we couldn’t ignore them. Consider us sold on everything ‘off-shoulder’. And you, did you get one or few?

Made Us Fall In Lust With Indian Jewelry: Sonam Kapoor
A kundan necklace with a classic white shirt, chunky silver with a romantic ruffled maxi, oversized ruby jhumkas with a couture gown at Cannes, an unexpected mangtika or those umpteen times she dressed up her saris with traditional Indian jewels, Sonam Kapoor made us want more. And more.

Made Us Fall In Lust With The Wide-Legged Suit- Aditi Rao Hydari
Who needs gowns when you can have a wide-legged suit? Not Aditi Rao Hydari! We love how effortlessly glam she makes it look.

Nailed Travel Style: Neha Dhupia
Comfy shoes + roomy bag + easy separates, Neha Dhupia’s preferred airport uniform always has our vote. #TravelGoals

Nailed The Lehenga: Athiya Shetty
In a sea of bright jewel tones, shimmer and shine, Athiya Shetty was the palate cleanser this Diwali in a Rahul Mishra lehenga. So modern, so minimal, definitely made us think of it as the lehenga 2.0.

Made Us Want More Of It: Samantha
If you follow these pages close enough, you have heard of Vrisa. Understated and so elegant, it almost single-handedly makes us want to go DeBo, all 2017. And Samantha helped too!

Nailed Her Hair & Make-Up: Tamannaah Bhatia
The outfit (accessories included), hair and make-up are the holy trifecta of a look and yet the latter two are almost always ignored. What good is that perfect dress on the red carpet if the hair and make-up don’t work? Tamannaah knows. And so, almost every look is styled just so. Head. To. Toe.

Nailed The Bridal Florals: Bipasha Basu
Anushree Reddy’s lehenga for Bipasha’s mehendi and that flower crown made us crave a floral fix. Like. Right. Now.

Made Us Reach For Color: Freida Pinto
Though Freida Pinto does have a soft spot for white, ivory and all shades in between, when she decides to do color, boy does she! Those glorious Gucci colors or the bold blues she favors, we are (almost) tempted to give up black!

  1. would love a post on tradition indian weave saris with a traditional drape. Vidya/Rekha/Nandita Das/Konkana might be the obvious names that first come to mind but this year Kangana, Mini Mathur amongst others have successfully done it right

    • That’s a great idea, I second that! In fact, from time to time (like once every 5-6 months, not too often), you should have a column about a style, not a fashion statement or trend, but about style that is timeless, yet is experimented with, and one that looks good. I’d bookmark those posts!

  2. You girls are the cutest! What a fun post, loooooooved it.

Kangana is F@$#% BOMB. A sari and a smile … and just like that, we have a trend.
Dipsy can pull off those off-shoulder looks…I’m sticking with cold shoulders for now! 😉
Bipasha was such a charming bride… second only to Soha (who’s still my #1 favorite bridal look).
Athiya gets full points for being herself …un-fussy and elegant.

Made us fall in love with Structure – Sonam’s black and blue Rimzim Dadu sari
Nailed the international red carpet – Saiyami Kher (Sabya), Kangy (Ralph & Russo)

  3. I think you guys should give a shout out to the stylists (every other blogs harps on the stars anyways) who really toil hard to make the magic happen. Give credit where its due 🙂

  4. That is some serious efforts you ladies have put in to compile such observations! Love it.

I believe Kriti Sanon also fared really well in the hairstyle department along with alia. There have been some really more drool-worthy saree looks by Kangana. Love this one especially:

Also those classy saree looks by Tisca Chopra.

Damn, just look at DP!!!! She looks every inch a diva, a star, the goddess… Bhagwan ne isse puri phursat se banaya hai! I can keep looking at her all day. *_*

Finally, Aditi Rao Hydari is LOVE.
