LFW: Sabyasachi

“Sanctuary” by Sabyasachi, was whipped up in a mere month, but would you believe it looking at the clothes! The silhouttes are inspired by the 50’s and 70’s and made from plastic, linen, snake and crocodile leather, chiffon and more. While, last year, he had his models in a “damsel in distress” look, this year he opted for wide rimmed glasses.

Dipannita left her Gauri and Nainika dress behind and donned a Sabyasachi for his show at Lakme Fashion Week. Coincidentally, Vidya who was also in Sabyasachi had worn a similar outfit to the Anandalok Awards back in Dec 2007.

Sonam Dubal’s collection titled “Trailing the River Goddess” was inspired by the life-giving qualities of rivers. The color palette consisted of shades of blue, purple, burgundy, green, red, gold and yellow to denote water, earth and human life. There was heavy oriental influences marked by mandarin collars and diagonal cuts on minis and skirts.

Sudhir Nayak & Tapash Biswas for their label “StaĆ©” used brushstrokes and paint blobs to create a very fashionable collection that consisted of jackets, shorts, minis and blouses. The line also included a stylish luggage line that matched the outfits.

Digvijay Singh presented a menswear collection constructed out of silk, cotton and linens. He took the simple fabrics and created a relaxed comfortable line that should appeal to the everyday man. Long tunics and short jackets were the highlight of this collection.
