The pictures above are from a couple of weeks ago, taken at a press conference, announcing the launch of Reliance Jewellery stores in Bangalore. The models sashayed down the runway, showcasing myriad designs mostly in Gold. However, the question is, is there absolutely anything left that Reliance hasn’t dipped its fingers into??
And more importantly, is that male model wearing heavy gold jewellery?!!
Bangalore also saw a Shobha Asar jewellery exhibition at The Oberoi and for its inauguration, the star power came in the form of Kareena Kapoor.
Ignoring the obvious issues with eye make-up, do you think her choice of jewellery matched the outfit?
Poonam Soni as a jewellery designer has set many a milestone and now added another feather in an already much crowded hat! Her jewellery line called ‘Monochromes’ (that features art-work of Laxman Shreshtha) has just been featured in the limited edition Italian book, ‘Trends For Jewellery Forecast 2009′ and is being called the first of its kind in the world! No small honor when you consider the fact that brands like Tiffany, Cartier and Bulgari are also featured in the book!
‘Society’ magazine mentions that only eight pieces of ‘Monochromes’ will be put up for private viewing and sale this month.
Sometime ago, we told you about the Cartier Inde Mysterieuse collection Here… And now, here’s a look at some of the pieces from the collection…
Aren’t they just divine? So swoonworthy!! If heaven sparkled…
If you haven’t noticed, necklines embellished with jewelled accents are all over the place and while its a look lot of people seem to crave, its not entirely easy on the pocket and neither does its fate lie decided over the next fashion season or two as far as its longevity is concerned!
So here’s a way you can make that look work for you! If its Simi’s look you need and want, just pin a pretty kundan ‘maang tikka’, or any gemstone (of your preference) ‘maang tikka’ onto the neckline! If its a more understated look, like Minissha’s, you crave after, then all you have to do is pin an elegant brooch on that neckline. One screams for attention, another makes a demure point, either way, its a great way to make a statement for now!
If you have $200,000 burning a hole in your bank, then, the piece above in emerald, diamond and rock crystal might just be it for you, estimated at just that, and up for auction by Christie’s!
Christie’s will be auctioning off eight pieces which are all crafted/designed in the Art Deco style of that era and all of which belonged to the Maharani of Kapurthala.
Some serious bling.

While still on the expensive side, these pieces are unqiue, quirky and just a bit special!
Here’s what has been creeping up the must have accessory list with stealth and style and you spell it as s n a k e! Portia De Rossi wore one around her neck at the Emmys that looked like it was spewing out the fabric of her dress and I thought that was such a fabulous touch! Since we can’t have a couture gown to make that look work, here’s the next best option.. accessorize, accessorize, accessorize.
I love this necklace; throw around a low necked or bare shouldered dress and you are ready to smolder! Even better, move past the black dress, and brave a midnight blue or a regal purple and see envy take root wherever you point your finger to!

Cocktail rings and statement rings are all the rage but here’s a look you won’t see every Jane sporting! Have that snake curl around a finger and make a statement that is bold yet laced with personal style!

And how fabulos are these black faux onyx snake earrings? Every time you twirl your hair or do a diva toss, you get to tease just a bit with these wavy, beautiful, gliterring earrings…

And finally, this gorgeous bracelet/bangle! Instead of the usual red stone for the eye, it has a green one, far less creepy that way and far more ’style-appeal’!! Sure fire way to jazz up any look, any day, for some quick top of the charts style quotient!

With accessories like these, instant style revival is but guaranteed. And they say snakes can’t be trusted!! Sheesh!
When it comes to jewellery, every once in a while I look for some rather whimsical pieces that are just fanciful, kitschy, unpredictable and oh well, whimsical! And at one such quest, I found this necklace at J Crew. Its in a classic blue-green combination and what makes it so wonderful, is the frog clasp made out of pave’ crystals on a double strand teal colored glass necklace. And if you look close enough, you’ll notice that the beads are knotted on a rasberry colored thread which just adds to the contrast! At $125, this bit of whimsy is yours to have!

The Turtle Ring by Kenneth Jay Lane from Shopbop is whimsical and cute and oh-so-adorable! The ring is in 18K gold and has Swaroski crystals, and its size can be adjusted! And at $88, you are getting a cocktail ring that makes a statement, and how!
And this last one…

Ok, so your first instinct might be, isn’t that a bit much? I’ll allow you that.. But, yes there is a but! Look again. It is so whimsical, girly and way too much fun! The Large Bow bangle from Fallon Jewellery also available at Shopbop screams witty whimsy with vintage vibe. At $219, it certainly is a bit pricey, but thats one statement piece which certainly will reap rewards!
Its a cynical world baby, and we all need a bit of whimsy now and then!
Amrapali has long been a favorite of mine for those unique jewellery pieces, that you know not everyone is going to be sporting or ones of which thankfully, cheap knockoffs won’t be readily available at Janpath! While their traditional jewellery is good, I especially look to them for their contemporary designs in Gold and Silver. Those pieces while having a modern edge still manage to retain their ethnic appeal and can be wonderfully teemed with clothes that are either western or traditional. A classic example of what I am talking about is this piece, a pendant and earrings set, in Gold and Onyx which I see being worn with a Sari, a Salwar, Jeans and a tank or even with a LBD with equal aplomb.
You know, everyone does a strand of pearls, but imagine how fabulous you’d be if you did this piece in South Sea Pearls…It looks like a traditional piece in Kundan but the twist comes in with the South Sea Pearls.
And I absolutely love the earrings in silver. Again, they have that versatility which enables them to ‘go’ well with any outfit, whether western or traditional. It is casual enough to be day to day, while still leaving room for them to be worked into your nights.
Cocktail rings are all the rage: bigger they are, the more kitschy they are, the better they are. So, now imagine, if you were sporting these rings in Silver, wouldn’t that make a statement? They are unique, and like with all things old, they are so new again! I see a woman who is sure of herself, one who walks into a room to own it, totally working this ring!
What a wonderful line of jewellery. For more, go HERE.
