Doing Black And White

Sridevi did black and white at Javed Akhtar’s birthday party wearing a Valentino pussy-bow blouse with black culottes, a Chanel boy clutch and Gucci pearl sandals.

While I love the outfit, something about this look makes it feel too over-styled and not quite effortless. Just me feeling that way?

  1. P&P you guys never comment on age-appropriateness of clothing. I mean, you do when a younger person like Aaalia wears clothes that age her, but you don’t see to comment the other way around. IMO, I don’t think this look works for someone in their fifties.

  2. I love Sridevi but not her fashion sense. She is tall and shapely and doesn’t veer into the absurd which makes every appearance pleasant. But there is nothing very signature or interesting in her choices. This is no exception. Nothing that screams all wrong but nothing arresting either.

  3. Those shoes might be Gucci but they are hideous! Although Sridevi looks nice, I do think that her looks lack individuality. She wears whatever the stylist picks out for her. It would make a rather nice change to see her give her own spin to the clothes that she wears!
P.S.: I don’t understand what is age appropriateness when it comes to fashion. Ralph Lauren once said and I quote, “It’s not about age. It’s about taste and lifestyle. I believe women of all ages can wear anything.”

  4. I think she looks lovely. Not over styled.
A bit shocking to read some of the comments here that refer to age appropriate dressing. I’m scratching my head over that one for I fail to see the inappropriateness here. Is she revealing too much skin? Is she wearing a crop top or a mini skirt? And which tween have you seen wearing a semi-formal pair of cullotes? Must an Indian woman of a certain age be wearing a sari or a kurta suit or just jeans or trousers, for her to be considered as dressed age appropriately?
    Lighten up, people!

    • Age appropriate does not equal skin show or lack thereof. This dress here has a child if sh school girl vibe. That’s what I believe everyone is balking at. It’s not an inappropriate dress but at the same time it doesn’t look good on her. No one said that teens tweens should /can wear crop tops etc. if it doesn’t suit their body then it’s a bad choice.

  5. Pants would’ve looked better than the culottes; the shoes would look bad on anyone with any outfit; the expression is ridiculously try-too-hard.

  6. This is more like WTHeyyy.
Nothing is suiting her here, and her face looks destroyed off late.
Always trying too hard to look hot and young. Why not for once try to look natural ?

  7. Why do stars have to always dress up like they are attending some high end fashion event. It’s a birthday party and too of Javed Akhtar’s. She could have easily worn something that was simple yet elegant.

  8. She looks like she’s dressed for some corporate event not an artist’s birthday party. What a missed opportunity. She could’ve worn a beautiful casual Indian outfit that showed some personality.

  9. How is such a buttoned-up, formal sort of outfit going to look ‘effortless’? It’s probably just her pose that looks a little forced. I think this outfit is fine in general, although I don’t agree with the sandals. If you wear long sleeves and an almost full-length bottom, it seems like common sense to wear a closed-toe shoe as well. Otherwise her clothes are saying ‘it’s cold’ and her shoes are saying ‘it’s warm’. Well, which is it?

  10. I guess when people here talking about age appropriateness I feel its more like lady with her age should style with purpose , Not like ” Hey!! look I am such a barbie doll looking forever young ….praise me!!” , 53 yo attending 70 yo birthday just dressed like school going or corporate event … so annoying!!
