Soundarya, the younger daughter of Rajnikanth got married on Friday in Chennai to Ashwin Ramkumar. It was Kanjeevaram saris for the wedding ritual but for the the reception, the bride chose a nude pink Sabyasachi sari with the groom opting for a black suit. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Thanks to shyba for the news tip-off. Catch more pics of the wedding and receptions here and here.

  1. Im not familiar with South Indian weddings so can someone please explain why the bride has 4 different bridal saris on? How many ceremonies were there? So confused.

      • Tam Brahms change saris for almost every other procedure πŸ™‚ In total, I wore about 9 saris over a span of two days. And its not because my parents threw money πŸ˜› but because of tradition. Every sari has a significance. Parents, maternal uncles, groom’s side – everyone gives a sari πŸ™‚

    • During most south indian weddings the bride comes in wearing a sari given by her parents and half way through the ceremony is presented by a sari from her inlaws which she goes and changes into

i think those are the green and the red saris

the pink kanjeevaram sari i assume she changed into post ceremony when greeting the guests – maybe it was lighter or easier to carry than the nine yard sari tied tamil style
(same way that the groom changed into a sherwani rather than dhoti and angavastram)

  3. Love the Sabya saree.. love the fact that shes not overloaded herself with jewellery. Love the pink Kancheevaram saree, the 2nd one is also nice … must say both have kept all looks understated and clean

  5. Love love her sarees!! Soundarya looks great in all of them, but the nine yards saree is the best! Nothing to beat Kancheevarams right? Please feature Sridevi from her reception!!!

  6. She looks so gorgeous in the traditional Kancheepuram sarees, jewellery, etc. Perfect South Indian bride. The reception saree is nice but would not be my choice for a bride, although it is good she didn’t go overboard and still kept it classy. She looked just too beautiful during the ceremonies. I would suggest people go through those pictures, they are a perfect example of a wonderful Tamil Brahmin wedding.

  7. This Sabya creation in a pink version is just like Aishwarya Rai’s olive Saree from Cannes 2010 premiere of Outrage – the red blouse and the border is also the same border from Aishwarya Rai’s saree she wore at the Raavan music launch. Mix n Match

  8. Someone mentioned that she looks classy and I completely agree. All of her wedding looks are simply perfect. (Oh and the groom is well-dressed too! How common is that?!)

  9. love the traditional sari’s … she’s got such a stunning face …. πŸ™‚ and agree with the bloggers that whilst she looks gr8 at her reception, the Saby sari is not bridal…..and whilst i am a huge fan of Saby, this look is getting quiet jaded.

  11. i think she looks beautiful and the groom is very good looking. but i dont like any of the sarees she’s worn. neither the 9 yard (actually i dont like the 9 yard style – it always make you look a little bulky) – or the sabya/Mm whatever it is. but her make up is lovely and i like that she didnt go overboard on the jewellery like recent celebs have at their weddings.

  12. Lovely couple esp the groom. Yum and true alas, gone!

though the bride looks lovely in this saree, i personally don’t think it is reception worthy. She looks all to simple esp after her other wedding appearances which are perfect!! esp the pink saree! bride is gorgeous, wish she had played it up for the reception. Did I tell you the groom looks good? πŸ˜‰
