In Rohit Bal

Wearing Rohit Bal, Sonam Kapoor helped inaugurate an exhibition in Mumbai yesterday. With flowers in her hair and a bindi in place, the actor finished out the look with jewelry from Sunita Kapoor and NeedleDust jootis.

There’s no one better than the statuesque Ms. Kapoor to pull off the volume heavy Rohit Bal floor-sweeping anarkalis. And yet, as perfect as the look was on paper, it felt lacking. While the updo may have been intended to balance out the volume, it made the look seem rather mature. Had she instead opted for a softer, wispier updo, sans the flowers and bindi, it would’ve been just the kind of soft, feminine look Sonam does so well. Not to mention, more youthful.

  1. I love the concept of the outfit, just disagree with the gold border at the bottom, which somehow cheapens the dress. Can’t help imaginining how much better it would look in all cream. SK looks resplendant. But love as I do the flowers in the hair look, I agree that that she could have given the flowers a miss.

  2. Why is rohit bal going the manish malhotra way … Too much fabric , unflattering silhouette , and a weird gold border instead of the cheap embellished velvet that Is a MM patent

  3. I think the up-do works better, or the look would be too crowded with hair adding to all the volume.. but I really don’t know what is so ageing/mature/matronly about the look.

It’s just a jacket to me, and her face is somehow looking 10 yrs younger.
She looks very baby faced here- something i never thought of her as.. !
    make-up is everything!!

  4. Reminds me of winter weddings in North India where the older women would wear sweaters with their gorgeous kanjivarams and benarsi sarees and the younger lot would have none of the saree with sweater/cardigan style even though the temperatures would be frigid. Sonams cape looks like a sweater and her styling makes this look too matronly.
