  1. So I might reveal how little I know about fashion by asking this but… the dress that Sonam is wearing.. is that like unavailable to buy? Is the dress on the right the only version of the dress that is made for the public :S? Cover is blah.

  2. Sonam always looks great- and I love her necklace! Can’t wait to see the spread.

And HHC, it’s been so looong! I got a new job and I haven’t been around since August…you know it’s been too long if you left when Priyanka had major hair issues, and when you come back, she’s fab! Ahh! Well ladies, it’s good to be back! <3

  3. They take the most fashionable young actress in Bollywood, style her uncreatively (from what I can see), and then put a borderline-unflattering picture of her on the cover; I’ve usually stood up for and appreciated Vogue India’s covers, but this – or what I can see of it – is truly a disappointment; hopefully a clearer, larger look will prove me wrong. Otherwise, I pray that the spread inside is absolutely fantastic.

  4. This isnt cover worthy in my opinion.
Will you guys be posting Priyanka Chopra’s Verve December 2009 shoot. Its one of her best till date along side her Ferragamo shoot earlier this year. In her Verve shoot she wears Louis Vuitton Fall 2009.

  7. she looks great, love the big hair and cherry necklace, but I am not a fan of slip dresses, would have preferred if she had worn the dress on the model. Looking forward to seeing the whole spread

  8. I’m sorry but there is NOTHING designer about the dress on the right: the print/ material is tacky, the silhoutte is unremarkable and the fit is bad.

Now, if this had been part of an Indian designer’s label the comments would have ripped the outfit to shreds, but no one here is criticizing it because it’s part of an international designer’s collection ( which is a trend I’ve noticed on this site)

No offense but I find Roberto Cavalli’s clothes completely tawdry: he hardly gets out of his cheap-animal-print comfort zone and his clothes are somehow always the opposite of Elegant (I mean he even makes a godess like Sushmita Sen look baaaad).

    • Seconded. Roberto Cavalli is mostly uninspired. I like some of his jewelry and accessories, but thats it. Most of his designs are animal print, and OTT.

    • I agree … his clothes are disappointing!! But i have to say that Sonam does make them look better that they would on any other model!! Atleast in the 1st 2 pis …the last pic looke very dates with the hair and all .. circa 2001 !

cavalli’s inpirational days are looooong over! i can buy that blue animal print dress for $20 in target… even before cavalli designed it!

  9. Also, I think it’s ironic that the top-left of the cover says from “Sonam Kapoor: 90 kilos to perfect 10″ and then on the right it says” Real women reveal what works from size XS to XL ” 🙂

  10. ‘From 90 Kilos to Perfect 10’ as a coverline. With such clever, witty writing Im sure Vogue India is making Vogue the brand proud. Need I refer to the year long uninspiring, insipid covers to prove my point?
Sonam looks great and Im a fan. Its Vogue that continues to disappoint.

  11. Sonam wears this print much better than the model. But wish they did’nt photoshop her face. It lets out a wicked tone particularly with that big black hair.

  12. The hair looks bad, very bad, and why she wear that shirt like a stole? And what’s with the chunky ring? Her face looks pretty, pity it could not all come together right.

  13. Oh this should have been better. Something is off about her face. She looks drunk or at least very sleepy.
And speaking about the issue, now Vogue will give us the magic mantra to priyanka’s waist, deepika’s legs and malaika’s butt.

  14. I’m totally in love with her….she’s got a I-D-O-N-T-C-A-R-E-4-A-P-E-N-N-Y Attitude…she looks fab…& i was waiting 4 her to capture the cover of Vogue…hope the inside pages are even more beautiful & fashionable…wat a gr8 way 2 start the year 2010 !

  15. I love the version on the model. It’s beautiful, and more wearable because of the material. I think the cover is very meh, Sonam is gorgeous ofcourse, but Vogue India really needs to step up it’s game.
I actually feel sorry for Vogue India, it is so sad and uninspired. Look at the articles ” How to get Priyanka’s waist…” or “The Shape Issue…”.
Seriously, fashion is fun, don’t make it insipid, Priya Tanna and team!

      • Harpers, L’Officiel and Verve India all have good fashion editorials, it’s really sad because India does have good stylists and editors it’s just that the Vogue India doesn’t employ any of them.

I still don’t understand the logic behind Priya Tanna being Editor-in-chief, I mean her fashion exposure pre-Vogue is pretty much negligible. I mean she edited Femina and DNA’s style supplement which is hardly ‘fashion’ in the sense that the Vogue is.

And to make things worse? She wore a horrid transparent blue Manish Malhothra sari with a gold corset blouse to hobnob with Anna Wintour at Milan Fashion Week *shudder*

And as for the bollywoodization of the Vogue? The reason’s pretty obvious, the fashion director Anaita Shroff is a bollywood stylist!!!!

…yup, while Anna was in Prada. Anna looked the part of Vogue’s top woman, while Priya….mmmm….Manish Malhotra…mmm….

  16. Is it just me or does Sonam’s face looks completely different. Maybe the way it was captured? I love the big hair. Which is highly ironic because when bwood beauts are featured on covers I always hate the cliche’ big Bollywood hair, but it’s refreshing on Sonam.

  17. They haven’t done justice to Sonam..they havent! You have a girl who loves fashion is well dressed and has excellent face and features to work with and you end up with a cover like that. Iam sure the spread inside would be much better..iam sure!

  18. very disappointing cover!
c’mon people of all the dresses??seriously? Why are we so obsessed with gracing our magazines with cavallis and armanis with such a tremendous amount of Indian talent.kat in chanel, preity in dolce, kareena in Dior,Gauri in Jenny Packham..the list goes on…
    Sonam in Cavalli…..very unimaginative.

    • i agree… somehow the indian designer is being snubbed by vogue.
also i wonder if vogue india wud ever have the confidence to feature and promote off beat trends / underground popular looks… and not just commercial stuff…

  19. Ummm… she looks good no doubt (but she always does). But expected more from a Vogue cover – nothing outstanding and I think she is photo shopped a bit much.

  20. For the first time i did not like any of sonam’s picture. Neck up she looks good but can’t say the same for the rest. Not at all impressed with the clothes. The second pic. is a very badly shot. It’s making her ass /thighs look really big.

  21. I love sonam, but I am disappointed with this cover/photo spread. They could have done so much better with her. Her Harper Bazaar cover is miles ahead of this one. not impressed.

  22. I am not a fan of Roberto Cavalli. I liked maybe three of his dresses this year, and Sonam isn’t wearing any of them. The photoshoot is blah, Sonam looks good but it’s just not creative. Or interesting.
I’m getting tired of this type of extremely airbrushed photography.

  23. In Vogue India’s defense, I’ve liked many of their covers, and they’ve taken some very admirable decisions – for example, putting a gorgeous, not-waifish actress like Tabu on the cover and doing the “supermodels through the ages” cover. As for putting film stars on the cover, American Vogue does that even more often, and some of them are seen time and again (Sienna Miller and Nicole Kidman, you know I’m talking about you! :p). Moreover, the covers often feature close-up shots with very little attention paid to the clothes. French vogue of course is notoriously racist, to the extent that it didn’t feature Chanel Iman or any black model in its supermodel issue and instead put a white model in blackface. Italian Vogue is understandably fabulous, Milan being the fashion Mecca, but even the powers at Italian Vogue can’t resist putting Rihanna in bondage gear on its cover. Vogue India is making baby steps – it’ll hit its stride soon, hopefully. However, I do agree that Grazia, Veve et al have more cutting-edge covers, but some of the Vogue covers (both of Kareena’s, the Tabu cover) have been pretty smashing. 🙂

    • I agree, Vogue India is actually better than a lot of the older Vogue’s like Brazil and Germany, but I just think that their choices for fashion director and editor-in-chief could have been a lot better

    • Honestly i dont care about the covers you mentioned they were just about okay to me.rather it was the cover with Laksmi Menon which caught my attention which i guess was way long back before the bolly brigade started hitting the covers(which i think is a strategic move on Vogue’s part).
I think by far the Laksmi Menon cover and spread was great. Rest all are meh!

  27. not what i imagined sonam’s first shoot with vogue to be like … pretty ordinary fare ….

one thing, the dress the model is wearing is just a simple giraffe print but the shoot version is a bit different …Its not clear in this pic but i saw scans of the mag on the net
……. the dress is actually ripped in places giving it a different and more edgy feel.

  29. The cover demands a second glance! and then it loses its charm.. the body language is odd.. Sonam’s right hand looks misplaced. She looks stunning but her right hand on the shoulder makes her look spastic!

  30. roberto cavalli should take sonam to model these clothes rather than these stick-thin drab models! she carries them off like a bomb!
