In Abu Sandeep

At Ahana Deol’s sangeet, Sonam Kapoor cut quite the pretty picture in her Abu Sandeep sari. Understated jewelry, an updo and a matching Jimmy Choo tube clutch finished out her look.

Yes, between the sari and the clutch, that’s a whole lot of shimmer. Yes, that’s a drape we usually are known to frown upon. But none of it really matters given how well she wears the look. Love it head-to-toe!

P.S: You can buy the Jimmy Choo clutch on Sonam here.

    • No worries, Ahana was so serene & radiant that there is no danger of that happening. Funny but her sister Esha looked more blinged out than the bride herself. :p

  2. Why would you try to upstage the bride by showing up for a Sangeet in such an overly glamorous outfit? This wasn’t even the wedding, for crying out aloud! It’s tremendously tacky and in very poor taste if you ask me.

Sonam comes across to me as less of a fashionista and more of an insecure girl who needs the designer clothing, caked-on make-up and elabrate bling to bolster her self-confidence. A true fashionista is one who possesses the je nai sais quoi to look distinctive in even a simple black dress, and make it her own with her grace, elegance and charm.

Sonam, on the other hand, requires the gimmicky fashion paraphernalia to make a statement and stand out in a crowd. In the fashion stakes, I consider her less of a Hepburn (her alleged inspiration) and more of a Gaga, albeit more tasteful/ less outrageous.

Put her in a simple, chic dress with tasteful, minimal makeup, and she will be completely ordinary.

    • Agreed, like totally. I think in the overwhelming bolly brigade of bling and same old stuff, she did make a stark difference/tried out different designers though.

    • Since when do Bollywood stars dress understated @ wedding celebrations? She probably expected the bride to be all blinged out, no one expected her to wear white on her big day anyway. This is simple enough & you tried it with the Gaga comparison.
& sorry but Sonam IS beautiful, there is nothing ordinary about her. & if you need a reminder of how great she still looks in her simpler outfits, all you need is to go back to her Victoria Beckham dresses.

    • Sorry, but your comment is distasteful and downright hateful. Constructive criticism is welcome, but personal attack and obvious bias is so teen-ish.
If Sonam is ordinary looking, God bless us.

    • just coz she’s looking better than the bride doesn’t mean she’s trying to upstage her… She’s not wearing any bright colors.. she’s not wearing anything pink/red/orange that are usually considered bridal colors in Indian weddings. She’s not wearing OTT jewellery… She’s not showing too much skin… Her only fault is that she is looking pretty. And that she is looking better than the bride. Your comment is unnecessarily nasty and b*tchy. If anyone is coming across as insecure here, it’s you!

    • and what is wrong with looking “ordinary”? what is that even supposed to mean?! I look uber ordinary and makes me feel so good when an “ordinary” looking girl looks so GOOD! lol. Gives us ordinary looking mere mortals some hope.

    • I agree with you Anna. I would love to see Sonam in non-designer handloom or cotton saree for once.
I have to agree Sonam looks pretty here but i am still not liking the drape.

    • Whoa! Pipe down, girl. Wonder what sonam did to rub you the wrong way. She’s just wearing a blingy sari but her styling has helped to keep the look surprisingly very normal. No brides are being upstaged here. As for her trying too hard, well, at least she has the guts to take risks.

    • This upstage business omes from the insecurity of western brides and has no place in Indian or any culture.
It is not Sonam’s problem that she is more attractive than Ahana, no offense to Ahana who looked great as well.

  5. On many people thsi would have looked OTT or tacky especially with the same color palette throughtout, but Sonam with her smile looks breathtaking. Ash at Cannes in the Golden Saree went completely wrong, But Sonam, with the right hair and makeup, makes this look so right! I am sure she could have rocked Aish’s Cannes Golden Saree too!!

  6. It amuses me how u guys are constantly posting “love” to this woman even hen she is wearing the most hideous things. I’m not hating on this sari in fact I love it. I just hate the way it’s styled. I mean silver on silver? Seriously? Silver outfit, bag, shoes etc etc major disappointment from my end

  7. Sleek and modern updo, intricate and striking clothes, natural makeup…Sonam looks so good here, without taking anything away from the bride’s simple and unfussy aesthetic . thumbs up.
