In Nikasha

Sonam attended Bipasha and Karan’s wedding reception on Saturday evening wearing a Nikasha sari look fresh off the AIFW runway. When it came to the finishing touches, Ms. Kapoor got it absolutely right and I will also add, looked great.

Having said that though, I can’t quite say am a fan of that strapless blouse. The half-frill design just looked really weird to me and not just on her. It did so even on the runway.

Am I the only who wishes she’d opted for a different blouse here? Or was Ms. Kapoor perfect as is?

  1. Boobam kapoor is back again and not in a good way… that blouse needs to go away ASAP… sad considering how much potential the sari had after that makeup and jewellery.

  2. I am very surprised! Sonam can go overboard on soem occassions, but still manages to look okay (according to me)… but this is just completely off!! Even if you leave out the half frill, the color of this blouse is completely mismatched with the sari.

  3. A beautiful sari n jewellery that wud hv complemented the whole luk was completely ruined by the blouse. This whole look just gave me ‘Zeenat Aman vibes’ from her movie …was it ‘ Satyam Shivam Sundaram’!!!

  4. She looks like Shakuntala! All she needed was some flower jewellery. Haha! Strangely though, I quite like this look. It’s Indian and sexy all at the same time. My main grouse is that the material of the blouse looks cheap as compared to the saree, otherwise it’s a good look. And how classy of Ms. Kapoor to not feel duty bound to flaunt diamonds unlike a certain celeb-wife we know! Make-up could have been better, as usual.

  5. I like the look the way it is. It’s pretty unconventional and this lady carries it off quite well. And that smile makes up for whatever is lacking.

    • Unfortunately this isn’t a personality or beauty blog where smiles make up for fashion nightmares. Lol
Sonam now knows that any pr is good pr. She knows she looks a prat but a regular blouse wouldn’t be so talked about…esp with such a stunning bride around. Do we really believe she doesn’t know it doesn’t look right ?
The only person this would work on is someone genuinely boho like Lisa Haydon and then too with chilled hair and none of that jewellery.

      • Agree with you. The self-appointed so-called-fashionista who does nothing but ape the runway look, goes to great lengths to be the topic of conversation…case in point – the above blouse.

  6. I don’t mind the blouse. Sari and accessories are gorgeous, she looks lovely. A traditional blouse would have taken this look in style another direction, in my opinion.

  7. I quite liked the blouse and the sari on runway but on Sonam the blouse is looking awkward. I guess its because of the fit. The boob bulge is the culprit. Love the sari, hair , makeup n choker on her.

  8. God!! Such a beautiful saree…white n red is a heavenly combo..and that jewellery…gorgeous!…and she looks beautiful as well..and that blouse…blah!!…what is that frills ??!!…well i feel like she forgot the blouse first and tried hiding the skin using some leftover cloth for …maybe some ornate looking cushion…total waste of an amazing saree and beautiful face

  9. When I was in kindergarten my mom would attach a hanky to my uniform with a safety pin.. Maybe this is a grown up version of it.. A frilly hanky that she wont have to worry about losing..

  10. She looks like those apsaras of mythological series in middle pic with sadhus kamandal in hand.

But, of course its quite out of place attire for a wedding on earth ๐Ÿ˜›

  11. At first glance i thought his was Sonams doing. Those alternate days when she goes berserk fashion mad. But that blouse with it is actually from the designers show? One really questions the designers taste.

  12. while i love the laal par saree she completely ruined it by pairing it with that blouse. You don’t have to go high fashion all the time to make an impact. A simpler blouse would have been perfect here.

  13. I love Sonam..but for past couple of appearances she’s been a miss…if this is away to modernize the laal paar sari then I prefer my mum’s way..however old fashion it seems…

  14. Now doesn’t this look like she has worn a short decorated skirt as a blouse??? Hair are too severe and makeup very cakey. It really is off-putting the extent she goes to only to stand out.

  15. Dear Sonam…couture/high fashion more than the design and fabric and silhouette should be well-fitting. If the blouse fitted here perfectly…it would have made a world of difference.

  16. sari(?)-pallu looks like it was stitched together with blouse, not separate, as the folds of pallu are mushed with blouse. How could anyone choose an attire, let alone design it? So strange, weird, and messy-looking. Though the choker necklace is styled properly with halter-top neckline, I don’t care for such a look. Certainly not for wedding- maybe for movie promotions it’s okay. Sonam never dresses properly for occasion, just PC who think barely covered cleavage show is appropriate for US White House correspondence dinner. Big no!

  17. I hope it turns out that Sonam is trolling you…as in – she thought ” let me wear the most ridiculous, contrived look as a joke and let me see if the my fans over at High Heel Confidential actually call me out on it or praise the look”…! It is okay to say the Emperor is naked, guys! Sheesh! Trust Sonam to continue dressing inappropriately even at a wedding reception.

  18. Next time she should go all out and go blouseless. Lol. Would be much talked while also giving ode to the bygone blouseless era. ๐Ÿ˜›

  19. OMG! I like that Sonam dares to be different but sometimes she has no clue about matching the outfit to the event (Royal event for example).
I really canโ€™t believe this outfit is what passes off as reception wear in India today!
Personally I donโ€™t think weddings and receptions are events to go all fashionista and donโ€™t even get me started on the boob showโ€ฆ
These Nikashas and Manish Malhotras just ruin timeless, elegant and traditional Indian fashion classics. Okay my rant is over.

  20. As well as the blouse, I am also hating the silhouette created on the other side, under the saree drape. It’s not falling nicely, as if something is kept inside it ๐Ÿ˜€
