In Elie Saab Couture

It was another Elie Saab couture look for Ms. Kapoor as she attended the screening of The Killing Of A Deer on day six of Cannes 2017.

There is no denying that she looked great in this this gold look that included diamonds from Chopard. But, we have to admit, we were a bit surprised by the gown pick. Given that we also saw her yesterday wear something very similar, we were hoping for something different for her second red carpet appearance.

  1. Very underwhelming! The silhouette of both gowns is very similar and that clutch looks out of place. This year has been Sonam’s worst run at Cannes IMO. None of them were bad, but not what we expect from Sonam!

  2. Something is off about her makeup. Either shes really tired or the makeup is making her look tired.

The gown is nice but I had to do a double take to make sure this same gown as the other ellie saab with a different filter on

  3. Yes, it’s kinda similar, but I really like this look as well. I love the silhouette of both the gown worn by Sonam, it suits her a lot!! She looks beautiful!!!

  4. P&P, I echo your comments 100%. Both her red-carpet looks are repetitive; though I prefer this one. Also, even if she went with this gown; I wish she had picked a brighter color like an emerald green, red or blue which would have helped distinguish this look more from the blush toned one. It’s almost like with her day-time looks; she was too experimental and not experimental at all on the red carpet. Also; she did mention she is working on 2 movies and has an insane schedule; unfortunately she does look quite tired in most close-ups.

On an aside P&P; you both looked lovely on your instagram posts from Sunday. I love the sari from Jaypore and the Suhani Pittie jewelry.

      • The Shantanu and Nikhil gown that Neha Dupia is wearing, in your instagram pic, looks exactly like this Ellie Saab gown. Can you post both togather.

I agree with PK, Priyanka and you do look great in your gram pics. Keep up the good work.

    • I was hoping she will be there tomorrow & is reserving her best for that. Tomorrow´s redcarpet is the ultimate day in this year´s schedule. But idk if she is going to be here? The crazy schedule is sadly reflected in the similar looks, as amazing as both are. :/

  5. Oh, and to think that I thought my page wasn’t refreshing and kept trying :)))))
The repeat aside, how silly is it tobe wearing this to a movie screening for pete’s sake. Have the ladies even looked at what guests (and I mean the VVIP guests) generally wear for such screenings? Maybe that might help tone down the OTT effect some..

    • These ladies aren’t there to watch the movie, they’re there to gain eyeballs for the make-up brand for which they’re ambassadors. So when these girls wear huge gowns (see also, Araya Hargate for example), it’s actually exactly what is expected of them. I doubt they even watch the movies and I’m surprised people may not know that they’re not there in relation to filmmaking…in any way at all…

  6. She looks lovely. Although she missed out on the wow factor this year but maybe that in itself (for her) is different.

  7. Last year Aishwarya wore a similar Elie Saab gown in a pastel tone. There was the same belt, the same silhouette and the same draping. Just Different embroidery and different colour. But more or less the same. Not so impressive this time, Sonam.

  8. Lol yes. The power of a true fashion icon. People will expect you to blow their mind every single time. Sonam probably wanted to play it safe this year, .Every one of the great Cannes stars gets a Cannes fatigue @ some point, i guess this is hers… The design look impossibly great on her though!! I bet it was breathtaking live.

I am waiting to see her Ralph & Russo look that she will wear next

  9. Sonam doesnt do decolletage well. Ash dod it a lot better in her ice blue gown. Less Pam Anderson, more Elizabeth Taylor is a good rule of thumb

  10. It’s almost identical to yesterday’s gown! She looks great but expected more from her. And I just don’t like her makeup this entire time. She should stop using her personal makeup artist and use the foreign one L’Oréal provides like Ash& Deepika did. For all my complaining about Ash’s looks being the same – Sonam is the same! Expected more maybe too much.

  11. When someone is representing a make up brand, you would expect that to be on point. She looks very dull here! Much liked her day 1 red carpet look and her make up during the photocalls/press talks

P.S. – P and P – Could you please feature Aarti Ravi’s looks on the blog?? She was amazingly styled and surely deserves to be here and not just on insta!

    • Aarti Ravi has been featured before. Hoping they will post her pics soon. She looks great. She actually always dresses so damn well.

    • Agree with you completely. It’s like L’Oreal knew they had it in the bag with both Deepika and Aishwarya, who are huge stars in their own right. Aish also stepped up her game this year (no doubt because of Deepika’s presence – that’s great, healthy competition!) But it’s painfully clear Sonam is not in their league. Amy Jackson looked much better than her.

        Peace.

  12. I was really looking forward to all three appearances this year. However, sonam was a let down. DP and Aish both looked so amazing and super comfortable at the Cannes. For some reason, sonam seems tired and just uninterested. I wonder why? Deepika especially really surprised me – she was happy, smiling, and just looked like she was having a great time and enjoying herself. Same with Aishwarya.

    • Agreed. After dp and ash’s great runs I was so excited to see what sonam brings on. Unfortunately the photo shoot outfits were a complete disaster – more costume, less fashion; and the red carpet looks virtually a photocopy of each other. Although the gold looks much better than the rose gold on her skin. The makeup makes her look very dull. So disappointed. 🙁

  13. Even though it is repetitive, I’m glad she kept it sane. After seeing the crazy Rheson, Masaba etc on her in the recent sightings, this is a safe sight.

  14. Too boring for Sonam! She should stick to her experimental style. And Elie Saab should be dropped by ladies walking the red carpet until he comes up with something different. This look makes me nostalgic for the one appearance Sonam put up here a few years ago…the one with the nose ring & chain…she’s the only one who can take risks like that on a red carpet and make impact, so she should go for it.

  15. Sonam should just cover her decolletage… She can’t pull it off….
BTW nice look but it is Sonam and I wanted so much more…

Guess she is busy with movies n rheson launch?

  16. One would think this is a political blog and not one about fashion. Where people lunge at everyone who has an opinion different from theirs on people they adore/ worship/ idolize. If people feel that the owners of the blog are biased towards someone, why don’t they stop visiting the site? Maybe it’s not a bias, maybe they just have an aesthetic different from yours. Drop the rudeness and the sarcasm and stop the unpleasantness.

    • +100000. It’s ironic to see folks always being so offended at P&P’s opinions while peddling their very own, plus the conspiracy theories about pictures and all…dear god. Maybe it’s Cannes that brings out the rabidness but it’s been escalating from the past few weeks and I wish something could be done about it. On a site that provides a platform for consuming and celebrating fashion, it’s such a turn off to see comment sections speckled with accusations, criticism and uncalled for comparisons rather than reactions to the featured look or its elements 🙁 Maybe if people could keep it to relevant fashion related comments only, it would make for a healthier atmosphere…

  17. She looks alright. Very similar to her previous red carpet appearance.

Btw, will you be covering Gabriella Dias’ appearance at Cannes? She wore Rahul Mishra

  18. She looooooked like a goddess
But yes I agree it’s very very similar to the 1st outfit she wore
And I also expected a lot more from Sonam since she’s a fashionista and she always brings drama to Cannes
I would love to see her do something more fun and her age

  19. Mama Mia, she looks glamorous. I think she looks great and love the make and hair – it’s fresh and different from the expected route of dramatic red carpet make up. I really wish she hadn’t repeated the silhouette and designer – she had to know it’s too soon and one too many.

  20. I loved the white Jean Paul Gaultier gown she wore in 2015, to me that is her benchmark. This year was a major disappointment, I guess she was not joking when she said she has not done much preparation for the event. I am a huge Sonam fan, but this year I felt Deepika did a much better job, I especially loved her in the green gown.

  21. Make up and hair are awful. How is this a good look for a make up brand ambassador? L’Oreal should NOT be OK with this.

  22. Kind of really surprised. Thought Sonams look would be the best considering her past appearances. Somehow this time her looks were nothing to write about. She looked very pretty but the REd Carpet high stakes seemed to be missing . is she loosing interest. Because something is off. Even on her ordinary days she gives us something really edgy and here it was nothing. Two similar looking gowns which seemed been there done that.

  23. yes, its a repeat look but I can’t fault anything here, she looks lovely. She went to Beirut Elie Saab HQ a month before Cannes and then it was all back to work so I sort of am not surprised by two back to back looks from the designer. Given, she prepared less this year, I would take safe anytime over too experimental.

  24. She is definitely not in her elements this time…all her appearances are lacklustre and some plain ridiculous. While I liked her last red carpet outing a tad better, this one is just so meh…same colour palette, same décolletage baring design and the gown somehow makes her look shorter than she is…se also looks really tired. This had to be Sonam’s worst run at Cannes.

  25. She looks really nice and it’s a very pretty gown. It’s a pity that she did a similar one yesterday and that this one is a very typical Elie Saab doesn’t help matters. One out of the two would’ve been nice and something drastically different would’ve been really awesome. And yes, I think the make up is off? Man when you compare this with her makeup and styling in that Anamika Khanna saree with a choker. That was perfection.

  26. I only want to comment on outfits as they are worn. She was looking great in both the Elsie Saab gowns. Yeah they look repetitive but that’s alright. Rhea Kapoor herself said that they didn’t have much time to prepare because of the brand launch. The disappointing looks this time were her day wear. I still think Ash and Sonam should avoid the drama during day and reserve it only for the red carpet. Day wear should be modern, sleek and comfortable. Why go OTT for a day wear?

  27. She looks so fabulous. Sonam was the best of the three followed by Deepika and then the jokerish attempt by Aishwarya to look young in fairy tale gowns.

  28. It might also be because Ellie saab collection usually is the same silhouette with new embroidery every season .
This gown was so much better then the previous one .
