In Anamika Khanna

79

Yes kids, it’s that time of the year again! LFW Summer/Resort 2011 season kick-started with Anamika Khanna‘s show. Front-row attendees included the Kapoor sisters and had you followed us on twitter, you’d have already known what they were wearing a few hours ago! :p

Sonam Kapoor took on the menswear trend dressed in Anamika Khanna… I absolutely dug this look; everything came together just right! The more traditional necklace helped soften the look and the metallic silver clutch helped break-up the black-and-white palette just enough.

Anamika Khanna’s runway show had many beautiful pieces (as expected of course and more on that later) including some strong menswear inspired ones. Here’s look at just a few of those!

  1. You are Kidding aren’t you. You really like this look Priyanka? Most horrible outfit was worn by Soonam – she could not even carry it well.

    • I strongly dislike too…feels like trying to hard to be high fashion.. looks sloppy..might have looked better if not for the black and white vest-coat combination. Thats a horrible vest.

      • thank goodness there are people who don’t like this look! otherwise i will not be able to overcome my bewilderment after seeing sonam’s “fashion” look and hhc’s puzzling “digging the look”
seems like anything goes in the name of fashion! what a joke this dress is! she looks like a clown :D

    • i agree with you guys, this look, i dont have words to describe how much i dislike it, the necklace is lost, it doesnt match it, maybe something which was a little more subtle would have done, and she looks older than her age, awkward, and the dress is neither here nor there

PS: is there concealer issues in pic1 or its the lighting

    • yaay, i haven’t gone mad. i hate the look too. as well as being an eyesore, it looks very uncomfortable for the wearer. glad to see other people feel the same way.

  2. I am totally on board with this look, except for the hair. Major props to her for constantly changing it up and that too with flair, however.

  3. I like what she is wearing…
but i just find that necklace very odd on a western attire…
call me old school but thats just how i think!!!
    ummm ummm ummm uuuuhhhh!!!

  4. Are you kidding? This look is awful, the necklace looks weird, the embellishment on the sleeves is tacky, and worst of all: the pants are ill-fitted…She looks good neck-up though

  5. Am I seeing the same look everyone is praising? I really dislike the entire outfit on Sonam. The hair is oily, makeup is patchy, the necklace doesn’t work well with the outfit and the black vest is ill fitting. This is not mens-ware done right.

  6. I *love* the purple jacket and jodhpurs ensemble on the ramp. It’s nice to see a very western concept like androgyny Indianized so convincingly.

I don’t really like Sonam’s outfit though. She always looks awkward to me when she’s in masculine clothing. Always. Maybe its her classical looks, but feminine style suits her much better.

  7. Yuckety yuck! Not liking it at all! The necklace is the worst of all!
and that jacket thingamie is horrible.. Makeup – I have ALWAYS hated it, n still do. Oily hair is a no no!

  8. this actually looks like that costume outfit worn by the little girl in the beauty paegent round in little miss sunshine. too costumy!!
    hair is such a spoiler.
do something with the hair, get rid of the jacket and tuck the white shirt and the look can be a little more digestable!

    • hahahahahah. i TOTALLY see what you mean about the beauty pageant round costume in Little Miss Sunshine! You remember the ‘performance’ in the costume right? ;-)

  9. I get fashion, but this is anything buy. She’s trying so hard to be different .the pants with the white shirt (opened up a lil ) and the necklace = effortless chic !!!

  10. u luv this look? why? i mean big ups for trying something new.. but there is soo much going on.. i totalli missed the silver clutch wen i first looked at the pic.. then wen i read what you wrote about the clutch i was like ‘ what silver clutch? where is it?”
I think if she skipped the white over coat.. the look would have better..

  11. YUCK! she looks like a waiter. [no offense meant to waiters] Puhleese… what do u like about this look? Its gaga meets costume!

  12. The high collared look needed a brooch not a necklace. I just don’t like the vest at all. Pants dont fit well, neither does the jacket. She needs to go back and redo this look.

  13. P&P. If this is fashion, I don’t get it. Androgyny should work well for Sonam in theory, but could someone please tell me why this look is not a WTHey?

  14. only 2 words come to mind : EPIC FAIL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her style used to be effortless but this look screams ‘trying way too hard’

  15. You have GOT TO BE KIDDINN!!!

An almost cameltoe situation, a necklace on a collared shirt -SO out of place and oh-so-wrong, a badly stiched ill-fitted vest and badly styled hair…and you guys like this???

This is a complete WTHEYY and definitely in the year’s worst dressed looks.

  16. really?? you dug this look? with that necklace? isnt it too god awfully blingy? and that vest? what is the material? satin? and what is holding it together? a toggle the size of an ant? I wish Sonaam wud quit trying to be ‘in’ and so blatantly copying everything she sees in magazines. sometimes being a little imaginative (read not on board with EVERY trend that is declared ‘in fashion’) is the mark of an intelligent, fashionable dresser. Unfortunately Sonaam appears to be neither of those.

  17. trying wayyy too hard to be a fashionista, this is just plain forcing a trend..i like that she tries to change it up but id prefer playing safe than changing it up THIS way!

  18. the dress looks like a 80’s magician dress…but looks good as a costume dress. she should have ditched that oddly shaped vest & necklace. Instead should have gone for silver stud earrings and a pony.
the pant is also very tight.

  20. The men’s wear trend can work on the most feminine of women – like Diane Kruger. But it has to be kept clean, minimal and fuss free. Each of the pieces has to be sharp. But here in Sonam’s case, it looks very sloppy. On the top, wearing a jacket and a vest is overkill, the trousers or leggings almost give her a camel toe and the necklace looks plain out of place. The hair and the shoes don’t work either. Nothing works from top to bottom.

  21. it was very very hot at tote as even was outdoor and sonam looked complete misfit wearing the jackect and sis wearing tights as if were in a ski resort -i love my mink i might as well wear it in name of fashion !
and there nothing fashionable about sonam’s camel toe which u very easily seem to ignore just because u are obsessed with her bimbo style !

  22. Didn’t Raageshwari do the menswear trend so elegantly a couple of posts back? I am sorry but Sonam looks a little ridiculous here. Agree with the comparisons with “magician” and “clown” and “waiter”.

  23. ok so i havent seen the full collection but from what the pics you have put up its horrendous….its like ms khanna suddenly realized that androgynous is big this season n hurriedly put it together…a rookie fresh out of design school can be excused for such a poor copying job but not a pro…n anamika khanna is one of those few indian designers who i think has imagination n skill…very sloppy…she needs to ..relaxed,disintegrated fit doesnt mean bad cuts…if anything it calls for sharper tailoring…she needs to take a better look at the marc jacobs, michael kors n ysl collection….phewwww

now for sonam – im obviously excited…but not so much when i look at it closely…that thing coco chanel said about taking one thing off before stepping out applies here…although im undecided about which is that one item …

  26. hmmm….like i said before on rhea’s post….she’s trying way too hard to maintain her ‘fashionista’ title.

She should not become a slave to Fashion, but own whatever she wears. I think the pressure is just getting to her.

    poor girl.

  27. P & P, a lot of times ur comments are pretty spot on…but this one is way off the mark.
I get where actress is going with the look; but, the vest combined with kundan is not working.

We also need to get real, the androgynous look just does not suit us Indians. With all due respect to the designer, the models sporting the Resort 2011 collection seem to look like they have been dressed in pieces that no one buys from those clearance sales!

  28. She looks like a drunk penguin. Sonam tries WAY too hard to look fashionable as if she spends hours flipping through Vogue deciding her look and copying every piece she can find. She doesn’t look naturally stylish at all. Just a poser.

  29. I’m on the fence with this one. Waist up I think she looks great, i.e. Makeup, hair…. The pants are not quite right. Love the necklace though.

  30. Although I love Sonam and want to like everything she wears, I cannot make myself like this at all. This is very bad P&P. I can see why the other readers feel that you are biased towards her because if this look was done by anyone else, you would have panned it left and right.

  31. I think Sonam’s mission in life is to make a fashion statement every single time! She wears the look decently well but im not a fan

  32. I love the whole look except for the vest. I definitely like the addition of the necklace to the whole outfit, in theory I would never have thought it would have gone together but I love what I see (except for the vest ofcourse, wish she tried on a different vest)

  33. in the minority but I love her for taking a risk and making it work. This is what “boldness” is about taking chances that others wouldn’t have the guts to. Kudos to her.
