Sari Style
Sonam inaugurated a jewellery store in Chennai on Sunday wearing an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla sari. The sari with the custom embroidery depicting a wedding procession was rather lovely and also must have been very heavy. Kudos to Ms. Kapoor for pulling off the look effortlessly.

So pretty! A bindi would’ve been a nice finishing touch for such a traditional look.
She looks gorgeous. Love the sari. Ott yes, but then its a jewelry store launch and in Chennai. Perfect. 😉
Oh my God!!! How graceful and lovely she looks!!! This is the Sonam I used to like. When she came in the beginning, she used to look graceful. The embroidery on the sari is a piece of art. It is so exquisite.
Stunning. Wouldn’t change a single thing and i think it might be my fave Sonam look of all time
Gorgeous sari, beautifully draped and styled and perfect hair and make up
Not to mention that breathtaking jewelry
And that million dollar smile
Well said. This might be my fav Sonam look of all time too.
+1
She’s looking too pretty for words…
She looks lovely but a bindi would have been a nice addition.
So royal and elegant! Very happy that she got the makeup right too. There were many instances where her otherwise perfect appearances were ruined by bad makeup. This one is 10/10.
And that smile! It shines more than her jewels.
True
There is a lot going on but she makes it work so beautifully.
The saree is drooolworthy but the entire look is abit too much with the gajra and works
I agree. I find it a little too much as well. I think she could have worn a plain and simple blouse. That way the jewelry and saree shine more.
And ofcourse a bindi would have taken this several notches up.
OMG! How gorgeous does she look! Nothing to fault here and yes, Sonam can do these effortlessly!
Everything about the look is just about perfect. But this look badly needs a bindi. That is the only drawback.
ZOMG SHE LOOKS STUNNING!
I wouldn’t change a single thing. This is the very best she has looked in a desi avatar in a very long time.. Keep it up Ms Kapoor!
Omg that saree! Absolutely stunning!!
Sonam looks amazing, head to toe! Gorgeous saree, a work of art really. Love the jewels too.
Breathtaking. Now I am imagining Aishwarya rai in this.
I’m in love!!
Wow…..saree,makeup,the finishing touches…but above all her smile…perfect
OTT.
She looks great!
Did she replace Aishwarya as brand ambassador for Kalyan jeweler’s??Is that the secret behind that hearty laugh?:D
Saree is a piece of art! Sonam looks gorgeous. Bindi would have only added to her beauty. And yes, who would notice the jewellery when that smile shine like a diamond!
That saree with that blouse is complete OTT.. seperately they r beautiful piece of art..
Only thing good here is her smile..
She looks gorgeous and radiant…but that jewellery is ugly…I do get the point she trying out typical south Indian look…I am also a south Indian….so i can actually say we do have beautifully crafted south Indian jewellery… but this is plain gowdy …. and she could have worn beautiful kanjeevaram saree instead of this ugly elephant saree…..makeup, and hair bang on….color looks gorgeous on he…she looks ethereal
It’s actually a beautiful kanjeevaram saree ruined by ugly embroidery and embellishment …..real pity ..designer’s should stop meddling with traditional wear if they can’t do justice to it……because its sonam kapoor, she has managed to pull it off …she looks stunning
That saree is a work of art, beautiful. The jewellery is just right with this sort of saree, many would have ruined it by overloading with diamonds. Sonam has a great eye for what looks right.
It takes a special kind of talent to carry off so much jewelry and an ornate saree. And she is managing to do just that – she looks great!
She looks gorgeous, and that saree is all kinds of beautiful. I do feel the jewelry is a bit OTT, but its a jewelry showroom so….
Is it just me? Every time a Bollywood celebrity needs to do an event in Chennai they break out what they think are silk “South Indian sarees”, complete with mallipoo gajra etc. This is at the very least silly and costumey, always reductive, and at times actually offensive. Do they think people live like this in Chennai and Hyderabad? Or that people in Chennai and Hyderabad want to see them only like this?
Agree.
Bollywood has no idea about South Indian fashion or sensibilities. But then, they don’t have any idea about anything!
It’s the same as OTT dressing on TV. Nargis Fakhri was asked to pin up her dress recently. Somehow the organizers assumed that people watching TV are insulated from western dressing.
This I’m sure is not meant to be offensive, just to dress up keeping the audience and event in mind (something Sonam does only infrequently 😛 ). There are no rules of course, but I don’t think a couture dress fits in here, for a sari store inauguration.
Honestly, any traditional South Indian wedding has the whole deal going on – low buns, gajras, jhumkis, silk saris and lots of gold. I had one myself and am quite proud of it. She looks stunning here – just dressed up, and not at all costume-y.
South India does not hold exclusive rights over the gajra. This is definitely not “South Indian sarees”, If you look closely, the bridal party is on an elephant, camel and can be seen playing the shehnai, very North Indian. And people from other parts of India do wear silk sarees – Maheshwari, Dhakai, Chanderi etc etc. I’m sorry, but you overstating something which has absolutely no basis on regionality. Sonam looks lovely and that saree is a piece of art!
Shoulda kept the saree simple to focus on the jewellery. But then this is Sonam Kapoor.
She looks stunning! I am curious though she has been decidedly dressing in a way that looks more mature….wonder if thats a phase or the direction she is going in.
Am I the only one who thinks the blouse belongs to a different saree, and that this combination is a result of a faux pas while packing ? Saree is loud, a simpler blouse that goes with the saree may have worked great. Completely agree with Chevalier above – talk of prejudices! Just because it’s in Chennai absolutely doesn’t mean she needs to be OTT gaudy! Have you seen Nayanatara, Trisha, Jyothika etc in their stunning saree looks? A bindi is conspicuously missing!
OMG
she looks so beautiful here in this picture.
and she doesn’t even come off trying too hard .
She looks so good. the best ever on these pages. Evryone else pales in comparison
sonam looks ah-mazing here
love the whole look
Too much going on here. Heavy blouse, heavy sari, heavy jewelry. Where to look first? It’s almost confusing.
Wow!
This is beautiful. Do wish there was a bindi although I can understand why she decided to skip. I just think if you wanna go traditional go all the way!
