The earrings don’t go with her gown at all.
Also, I don’t think that the gown is a great pick by her stylist. It’s way too pouffy and doesn’t look attractive/graceful the way it falls in some photos.
Her MUA finally got it right. Fresh and glamorous.

I don’t know. I’m sort of on the fence about this one. Maybe it’s the expectations but as gorgeous as this gown looks, I was seriously hoping for something more. It sure is classy, but I would’ve loved to see her take us by surprise!

The dress wore Sanam. She seems engulfed by it.

  4. DramaMama at | | Reply

Nah! Too black. Should have gone with some colour. She’s looking good but, to me, this appears to be a very night time event look.

    1. DramaMama at | | Reply

By night time I meant a very formal ball gown event. Should have gone with something funner.

This look like something I would wear to a funeral. A very important funeral

    1. akaa at | | Reply

Really.. you would wear that to a funeral?
A ball gown, with a massive poofy skirt, big underarm cutouts and a back like that.. you would wear to a funeral?
Witty is something, but this sounds like snide :)

My only comment is that doesn’t it remind you of what elie saab Aish wore last year? So similar.

    1. Shruti at | | Reply

Yes,it does reminds me of Aishwarya’s elie saab gown last year. That was also black in colour and had darker shade black flowers coming from top to bottom, without reaching the bottoms. The only difference is Sonam ‘s gown is cindrella type which Aishwarya ‘s gown was not so voluminous at the bottom. If anyone other than Sonam had worn the gown then people would have call it a ‘copied version’ but since it is Sonam , even copied or inspired versions become original for people.

She looks adorable :) I think most of the time she just wins it by her radiant smile so it doesnt matter what she is wearing ! I love it!! :)

  9. Raaga at | | Reply

She looks beyond stunning. Perfect head to toe!!!!

But im sure everyone on here is going to nitpick and find something wrong about this look too. ‘She looks so contrived’ etc haha :P

    1. saba at | | Reply

      I to tally agree.

  10. HakunaMatata at | | Reply

Love the gown but the same, stupid pose is killing me now! If you’re conscious about your arms, wear something you’re comfortable in! She seems to be airing out her armpits in all these pictures!

  11. sree at | | Reply

She def looks good but my jaw isn’t dropped by this look. I wish she had done a high slit chiffon dress look similar to Blake Lively’s burgundy Gucci look. I’m pretty bored of her poofy, dramatic dresses no matter how gorgeous they are. A pretty safe and tamed pick coming from Bollywood’s resident “fashionista.”

  12. Adara at | | Reply

She looks real good in the up close shot. Finally, the make-up is good and not ashy-white washed. The gown is a mess to look at from the back. It must have been quite a task to walk with all that fabric everywhere. :O

  13. sara at | | Reply

What’s going on with her eyebrows? They look like caterpillars… The gown is too voluminous and is not uniformly so and hence looks weird..

  14. S at | | Reply

Not even a single photographer is interested in Sonam. Like last year she’s gonna make it to worst dressed list in European press

    1. Adara at | | Reply

Haha. True. But I noticed that with Freida’s sighting too. Maybe besides Aishwarya they ain’t interested in others.

    2. kasthuri at | | Reply

I noticed that too. None of the photographers are facing her.

      1. aritra at | | Reply

No one’s facing her, yet her pictures are being clicked. Seem like P.C.Sorcar gifted his magic camera to the Cannes authorities.

      2. Praneeta at | | Reply

I swear…shame no one is clicking her

    3. AB at | | Reply

RCFA a renowned International fashion website had her in the best dressed of the week. You can go look it up I would add the link but I think my comment might not be published then. Some people just find it necessary to criticise even when its absolutely unnecessary. Also I presume that you are Indian shouldn’t you root for Indian stars instead of demeaning them? Just a thought

as much as i don’t like her after kwk, I still have to give her credit for looking fabulous!

  16. blahbum at | | Reply

TOO PUFFY.. she looks pretty inspite of it. nothing can top her first yr at cannes . still her best

  17. Aashini at | | Reply

I hope there’s no side cleavage action. The fit of the gown makes her look broader (to put in a I-hope-this-comment-gets-approved kinda way.)

  18. Mesa at | | Reply

The expression on her face reads ‘yay! I am overjoyed , I live for this, wear fancy gowns, do makeup, hair and parade around ‘ that said the gown is beautiful and she looks lovely.

  19. Mads at | | Reply

Meh… She seems out of place, would have been appropriate for an 18th century funeral.

  20. tara at | | Reply

I’m sorry but I really dont love this look- I thought Freida looked better then her despite the court shoes! I dont know if its the hair or because a black gown just doesn’t have that WoW factor when seen in pictures, The gown on its own is amazing but I think the hair and makeup are a let down tonight.

  21. Ashu at | | Reply

Sonam is known 4 her style n experiments wid styles which always r nailed by her but here it is disturbing to c her shoulder n below side chest thing it just pops out like bones….d gown is beautiful but not 4 her. Sonam y did u picked wrong style 4 Cannes! On d positive side her make is amazing…thumbs up????????????????

  22. Adita at | | Reply

The ‘teapot’ stance is so irritating. She tried to pull of the Dita Von Teese hair look but somehow it seems off. A side low chignon would have looked classier IMO.

  23. Vysh at | | Reply

Ok as annoyed as I am by Sonam’s comments on KWK and as much as I dislike her usual costume-y approach to clothes (non-Indian clothes) I feel like people are just complaining for the sake of complaining lol. I don’t think others would be scrutinized to the same extent for the same outfit. But I guess she kind of asked for it? Anywho, I think she looks great here. Love her makeup for once and while I’m not keen on the puffiness, it looks fine on her. Hair is great, so is the jewellery and honestly Sonam Kapoor’s smile is probably the best thing about her and I’m so glad she doesn’t stand around pouting all day.

Also, this is unrelated but can we please see Mindy Kaling featured on this page more P&P? I think she has a very unique sense of fashion and she would add a lot to this page.

    Thanks! :)

Bad choice of gown. The back is a big poofy mess. And what’s so stunning about the earrings ?

  26. Neharika at | | Reply

She looks good but the point is I am bored seeing her do this look. There is no novelty in this and I don’t think how she Carries it makes up for the lack of novelty.

  27. Sandhya at | | Reply

Too princessy and too costumy ….

    Love the Chopard earrings :)

Seriously hate her signature dumb pose all the time!! We know that her arms aren’t so slim and she thinks this helps but it looks ridiculous posing like that constantly.

    1. Rue at | | Reply

Seriously though, what else is she meant to do with her arms? I mean it’s awkward as it is to pose on the red carpet, you don’t know what to do wth yourself unless you’re with someone or holding something. And she couldn’t just rest her arms on the poofy dress… so what is she suppposed to do?!

  29. Kirk at | | Reply

Will she be walking around all day long with her hands on her waist ?!!

  30. shasha at | | Reply

I hate her both-hands-on-hips pose.It look more like”hey, look.im incredible hulk here and im gonna turn green anytime”.

  31. Slc at | | Reply

Oh please stop with the nitpicking people….this is Cannes and the gown is gorgeous. Sonam looks stunning…make-up, hair and those earrings go so well with the outfit. I think a lot of critiques didn’t expect her to look this good.

  32. Sandy at | | Reply

The dress is too black .. Some colour is missing . Her make up and hair is great.

    1. akaa at | | Reply

too black .. what exactly is too black if I may ask? It is a black dress with black bead work / embroidery and nude lining .. where do you expect the color and how? .. a belt, or piping .. I don’t get it! She added color by way of her lips.. Isn’t this nitpicking?

  33. SS at | | Reply

Can’t deny her million watt smile!! But for that.. nothing is working for her. It screams.. “I am trying too hard!!”

The gown reminds of Sridevi’s Oscar de la Renta for IIFA where she was looking jaw-droppingly stunning and gorgeous…
Sonam – Hair and makeup look good but the dress Nah!

  35. Caligirl at | | Reply

Her make- up looks good, good close- up. Dress is predictable and her look overall is nothing to write home about.
But is this seriously all what India’s “self- proclaimed fashionista” has got? .

  36. Rani at | | Reply

The dress wore her. It’s wow because of how huge it is. That’s about it. Makeup and earrings look great

  37. Divya at | | Reply

She looks gorgeous head to toe. Love!

  38. Venus at | | Reply

The gown is not working on her, the colour is wrong for her and it looks too overwhelming. Freida’s Michael Kors gown has been the best look from any indian this time at Cannes.

  39. Myla at | | Reply

I always get a little-girl-playing-dress-up vibe from Sonam. Her ‘looks’ don’t seem very organic but end up being costume-y and caricature-ish. Would love to see her in something that she feels comfortable in, being 100% herself without feeling this obvious need to prove something.

  40. Shruti at | | Reply

I request Highheelconfidential to please make a separate post comparing:
    1) Aishwarya’s black Elie saab gown at Cannes 2013
    2) Sridev’s black oscar de la renta gown at IIFA 2014,and
    3) Sonam’s black Elie saab gown at Cannes 2014
All the three dresses are so familiar yet each look good.

  41. Deepak at | | Reply

It reminds me of the Oscar de la Renta that Sridevi wore to the IIFA this year. but I love this look on her.

  42. Sammy at | | Reply

Girls what is with the negative comments??!! You do realize that she is at cannes..right..not filmfare awards..cannes calls for old world glamour not “colourful” fun stuff.
I think she looks absolutely fab!
Maybe you need to look at aishwarya rai to bring some bollywood haha :)

I don’t personally like Sonam much….but she does look ahmazing here!!

  45. Puneeta at | | Reply

Sonam should leave the thick eyebrows to Deepika who can actually carry it off. Thank goodness for the non-whitened make-up though!

Otherwise the dress is charming, even though her pose is contrived.

  46. lizzy at | | Reply

She looks amazing. Cant fault this look. People are just complaining because of the stuff she said on Koffee with karan. But whatever! She looks beautiful and flawless. She’s the best dressed. Yes, definitely. This gown would not have looked as good on any other Indian actress.

  47. Allie at | | Reply

I think she looks stunning. And truly happy to be there which just adds to her prettiness.

I have already seen her being mentioned on a lot of american blogs as one of the best dressed people in cannes. Mostly it’s comments like “I don’t know who that girl is but she is beautiful and I love her dress.”

Also, it would be nice for once to have an Indian face at an international event that actually has some Indian support. Why are we so hellbent on pulling everyone down? First it was Aishwarya who got all the flak, then Freida, now Sonam.

  48. RM at | | Reply

She looks cute, albeit this is nothing out of the ballpark. I wonder how you squeeze a dress like that into a suitcase.

    1. Ahot at | | Reply

Elie Saab Haute Couture is based in Paris, so I imagine the dress was flown down to the L´ Oreal suite. Now for normal folks idk how they would travel withit! :-)

  49. hasina at | | Reply

she looks good but if you look at her back the gown seems like its drowning her. but nevertheless 9/10

    1. Ahot at | | Reply

She needs to have someone on the carpet with her that arranges the train everytime she poses, ala Beyonce :-)

  50. Prep-y at | | Reply

I love the gown and even if the skirt is poofy as has been mentioned earlier , I feel that Sonam pulls this off. She looks elegant, classy, and I do strongly agree that she is wearing something which is very event appropriate. In the past actresses have done more colorful and seemingly bollywood style while at Cannes, but I am more on the side where youare dressed more according to the global aura of the event..I will say Sonam gets it right.

  51. Jasmine at | | Reply

Im just wondering whether it was possible for her to sit wearing that??!!!

pretty face, but the dress makes her look like one of thos dolls old ladies keep in the bathroom. The ones where the skirt covers up an extra roll of toilet paper.

  54. James at | | Reply

+1 for this Elie Saab dress and -1 for Sonam’s look. I don’t understand what makes the designer put on that pathetic earring. It is not going with the outfit in anyway. Overall, the design looks pretty amazing and so is the smile.
