In Louis Vuitton

Sonam alongwith dad Anil Kapoor showcased the Audi R8 at the 2010 Auto Expo in Delhi. She wore a Fall 2009 Louis Vuitton outfit with tights. While we wait for pictures, have a first look at their appearance below.

Here is a full-length pic and got to say as much as I lvoe Sonam Kapoor, this outfit would have been more suited in an editorial than a live event.

  1. First of all that dress is not event appropriate – a car show for goodness sake.

Second, it is a ridiculous looking dress. Louis Vuitton line should stick to designing accessories (which I find mainly ugly too).

Third, why black tights? Be bold enough to wear the dress the way it was intended to be worn.

I know anything Sonam wears is praised on this site but I find her look most often to be too contrived and not effortless.

    • Why tights — because the event is in Delhi, in open expo grounds, where it is pretty chilly even during the day!

Agree with the dress looking ridiculous though!

    • Well, it IS Delhi, and Delhi IS cold this time of the year.
Having said that, the dress is totally inappropriate for an Auto Expo. She should’ve brought the glam, not the kookyweirdchic. And the hair and drop earrings are doing her no favours either.

  2. I love the hair, but those shoulders/sleeves would have worked, as Payal pointed out in an editorial – in real life, they’re just a bit too much – or maybe the full length photo is just an awkward picture? Kudos to her for trying out different things and nor looking ridiculous and uncomfortable, though.

  3. as stylish as she looks (love the outfit and the hair, very glam) is this what you wear for a auto launch/show….????

very wrong choice of clothes according to me. maybe she is getting too caught up with her title of fashionista.
she badly needs to work on her talking skills….it just kills it for me.

  4. you guys are right…this dress would have looked nicer for a cover shoot..it looks a little out of place and comical on her for this occasion.

  5. The hair, makeup and the earings look great.. the dress is a bit too much to be worn to an event like this. The arms and the chest area make her look like a slouch in the 2nd pic.

  6. Ugly……Clearly ugly…
Sonam kapoor is over-hyped and i agreed with ‘carol’ (2nd comment) ,she is always praised on this website …even is she is dressed up like a halloween witch .
Is it bcos she uses bigger brand ?
And many small screen or tv celebreties are crticised for nothing.
Sonam thinks herself a paris hilton…whtever she wears would become a fashion. She is good doesnt mean she is the only one who is good and she is good all the times.

  7. is this dress really event appropriate……??? love her sense of style but she over did it this time.
love the hair and dress. it’s very glam…but not for the occasion.

  8. the problem with this dress is that it looks like its pulled up a little, so the middle ruffled part does not fit where it should be on her waist and gives a awkward feel.

  9. Her smile is suuny enough to carry off most things. This one’s not so good however.

What happened to the YSL Perfume giveaway? So, looking forward to the results …fingers crossed 🙂

  10. I think she looks abs fab!! The hair and dress = very classyy!

others are just wearing short dresses and a pair of gladiators everywhere…that is called NOT having a fashion sense.

I applaud Sonam for experimenting and having fun with fashion.

    • I am so glad that someone agrees with me!!! I can definitely see what she is going for her … I like the choice of dress!! It’s very chic and I am very glad she didn’t go the redundant route!!

I like the hair as well because i think it needed to be pulled up to give the dress the emphasis!! and I absolutely love they way it all comes together!!

And YES i think it is appropriate for the car show because she wasn’t just simply attending the event, she was there to unveil it!! …. I LOVE IT!!

  11. That’s a glam dress for a glam car! Well, I am biased. The R8 is my dream car; I am saving to buy one some day so I absolutely don’t mind her event inappropriate outfit 🙂

  12. Mean people !! Think fall, think the color of the car and now think the beautiful fall dress. If she were in New York wearing this dress, then every one would have appreciated it . I am so glad that India has got Sonam Kapoor because she and her stylist really know the insight of fashion.

    • Thank You! And NO she doesnt get appreciated beacause she wears designer clothes. She gets the appreciated because she has a sense of STYLE and knows what works for her and not. Like it or not, she is one of the best dressed lady in BW.

    • delhi is delhi and NYC is NYC… fashion may have a different definition in both the cities but style does not… and this dress is a “wannabbee” attempt from sonam.
even in NYC this dress wud have been more appropriate at an MTV function or some such quirky event.
an audi launch is about glamour, sexiness and lifestyle…this dress aint screaming any of that that one lil’ bit!

  13. The dress looks way better on the model. Sonam with the dress and the sleeves like that reminds me of a black angel of death. Looks like she had black wings.

The dress is so crazy but not that bad bc it looks good on the model. Sonam does not do the dress justice!

  14. urhhhhhh ….. bad choice … i love her style, but this time ….. she second photo looks really awkward . She should have gone for sexy, glam rather than quirky. its an audi for godsake.

Not a big fan of LV. infact i think they are one of the most overrated brands in the world with their canvas, monogrammed monsters. but when it comes to clothes, they fall down yet another notch.
i have rarely seen a LV dress that i like. They just work in editorials and most of the times not even that.

Maybe a D&G would have been a better choice – its fun, sexy and in your face. i remember katrina at an audi launch last year. some sort of a tiered dress, looking her usual pretty self. even she got it wrong, it was too safe, too sedate a dress for an audi

    • at last someone who feels like me. those canvas monogrammed are hideous. ‘monsters’…more like.
i was in india this summer and thats what most women were carrying (saw a few birkins as well) and even here in the US lv canvas is the bag i see the most. yuck.

      Reply
    • god yes! agree to both …
the LV monogrammes seem to be liked by people who wud have everyone know they’ve spend a few grands on their bags… NOT because the style is particularly fashionable or attractive.

and yes again to the fact that both the actresses completely did not understand the brand and dressed totally inappropriately.

this wud have been a perfect place for one of those herve leger dresses that seem to be on top of every bollywood celubtante’s list.

  15. Looking awkward, the hair the dress…She is fashion concious, and using her film platform to show off that…I think the only actress in Indian film industry so much conscious abt fashion, who talks more abt fashion than acting, dont u think she is giving wrong signals to her acting career…i think she is spending more time on fashion shoots…

anyway waiting to see her in Ayesha…so far what we heard from her abt Ayesha, she wears almost all international brands in that movie…too much of such stuffs would disconnect the audience from character.

  16. hideous to say the least!Sometimes she just comes across as a fashion victim!Contrived as someone on the top said!Whatever edginess the outfit has is totally killed by her ballroom hairstyle and earrings!

  17. The dress looks way better on the model – I guess the hairstyle spoils it for Sonam – and not to mention – the tights. It isn’t everyday that you see mistakes from Ms. Kapoor but this one is a sure shot !!

  18. OMG… HOW BLOODY HIDEOUS! Yuck yuck yuck!

She is trying so awfully too hard… horrid! ugly dress, weird hair… like she’s come straight froma costume party… Babe.. halloween was three months ago!

  19. This is too contrived and screams…’Look at me, i’m a fashionista!’ She is so pretty, but i can’t help but feel that being a fashionista is not natural to her. Seems very forced.

  20. What was she thinking? this is a dress meant for a party or fashion week or a magazine shoot or something…not at the auto expo! she looks majorly overdressed for the event!
and considering how cold it is in delhi at the moment i’m wondering why she doesnt have a jacket or something on??

  21. Contrary to what some people think, in my opinion the creators and visitors of this website do not always praise Sonam and her style. When she goes wrong then people do point fingers at her as depicted here in this dress. So, I guess the reason Sonam gets lots of compliments is because seldom does she go wrong on her choice of clothes and that speaks volumes of her personal style.

This dress I agree with everyone does not suit her nor does her hairstyle. She could’ve done better.

And oooh la la what a dashing pair- Sonam and John!! where has the latter been these days? I miss you John!! come out of your hiding, will ya??

  22. I was at the Auto Expo yesterday, and boy, did the damned dress drag her down. I have said it before, I will say it again, the LV Fall 2009 collection was horrible, save for a few pieces. And seeing this over-exposure is just getting to me now.
Sonam is a very tall girl and i know she might stoop at times, but this is just bad. And it is all thanks to that dress, the way the sleeves drape.
Also, is it just me or does the dress come off as unfinished in some way?

  23. I…like it. She looked good, and comfortable in her skin, and I LOVED THE hair. My affection for Sonam has decreased after following her on twitter, and the outfit IS definitely out there, but I say it worked.
    Excecpt maybe the tights.

  24. One has to be skinny in the waist to pull of this dres. And sadly, Sonam is NOT.Looks like a batwoman with those sleeves ready to take off any minute. hehe.

  25. Tho outfit is a lil strange but not as terrible as you guys are making it out to be.. But plzzzzz can someone teach the girl how to do an interview or not do interviews at all.. She comes across really badly.. Actually she should just stick to fashion shoots..

  26. I love her hair actually, very unique but agree with HHC that this is a purely editorial look. the dress will strictly work only on editorial. Sonam is too curvy and sweet looking to pull this off with ease. like on the model it falls well as she is so skinny but on sonam, it makes her look balooney at the waist, which she is not.

and OMG OMG didnt anyone notice that she has worn FLATS!!!!! that totally KILLED the look. I dont understand how she wears this slightly edgy look and then wears FLATS???

    • I so wanted to add that the media was totally gross.. What is their concern on how much she earns or who buys her the car?? I would have totally ninja thwacked him.

      • I agree with the Media comment that Hira has made. Indian Media should really learn a lesson from Hollywood. I mean even the Mainstream media can stoop so low that make them like the TMZ and other Tabloid journos…how can they ask such ridiculous questions?

  27. It is a VERY rare occasion when a person from the Indian film industry wears something outside of a MM/Sabyasachi saree or a dress with contrasting shoes/jewelery, etc. I don’t understand why, instead of welcoming Sonam with open hands, everyone above is bashing her???
Sure the dress is larger than life. So what? Why do people have to stick to plain clothes? I honestly don’t get it.
And yes, it must be very cold in Delhi right now, so should she cover herself up in a fur coat? It was FREEZING is London and yet, Stacey Solomon wore a flimsy dress at the premiere of premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s “Varekai”. Why? cuz if celebrities were to dress the same way as you and I, then why are they celebrities? To me, that is remarkable.
I loved Sonam here. I adored her earrings which went perfectly well with the dress. My only problem is the shoes.. cuz they look like flats and that would be such a downer!

    Reply
    • If most people are bashing her, it coz they genuinely don’t like the outfit… Her posture is terrible in the 2nd pic, and the dress does nothing for her, not does the hair…

      Reply
    • I totally agree with you ‘tan ta da!’

      well said!

btw all those complaining that this site praises Sonam only…Have you even READ their post? They did NOT like her choice here. Gosh seems like there are more haters here more than anything =P

  28. She is definitely over hyped. I don’t know what successful films she has and what awards she got, except being Anil Kapoor’s daughter and wearing designer clothing. I dont think she even looks good. What do u guys say ?

  29. Bad bad choice of a dress – it is an editorial dress, way too risky to pull off for a day event and looks like she is wearing flats with the dress. Flats just don’t go with that kind of dress. And her posture is bad too. And don’t start me with the hair. Bad choice all the way. Nothing is working

  30. I am not digging this appearance of sonam. the dress is so wierd and i agree with carol PLease wear the dress it was supposed to be worn. for once i love it on the model better than on sonam usually its the other way round. this just goes to prove sonam is not infallible yay! she is capable of making big fashion mistakes and sometimes its best to keep it simple than to try to look boho or cheek or any of that crap she describes herself to be. soman should take it easy for a while and try to look simple and effortless for a change :P. the hair, earings, tights, shoes and the black nailpolish totally unecessary …the dress shouldve been the centerpiece instead this appearance ended up being an over-kill.
P S i forgot in the cavalli video you guys uploaded she said she liked goth aswell maybe this was a goth appearance alas it dint work 😛 besides audi is such an elegant, beautiful and understated car why not match the car …. hmmmmmm?

  31. I noticed that a lot of people who comment on HHC take an opportunity to bash a celeb they don’t like especially when they dress not so nice. It’s a way to get back at them and say all those things that are bottled up inside! From Aishwarya to Deepika to Sonam to SRK…stick to the topic!

Anyways…Sonam looks quite bad in this attire…it’s wonderful that she tries new things but this is not working for her AT ALL.

  32. Am a Sonam fan but the dress is so bad that even she’s unable to make it look good. The entire statement looks very contrived with the over the top hair and worse still, she looks uncomfortable… Probably realised it too late that its not event appropriate… 🙂 Make-up is the only thing that looks normal though…
P.S. Madonna wore a dress from the same line, WITH THE BUNNY EARS… 😀

Her hair isn’t doing nethn for her either…
    n her posture……

Well sometimes when we try too hard we tend to go wrong so its okay sonam 😉

  34. I agree. This is definitely an editorial runway look. For an event, she looks very gawky and out of place in it. Id still stand the dress, but i feel like her hair, is way up against gravity!
She otherwise has such a fabulously uber sense of sytle and fashion. I love her for it. I guess everyone has their bad days eh?

  35. I do not understand how people are not able to pick up instantly how researched, contrived and thought-out her looks are.

To be truly talented in terms of fashion is to be able to wear your clothes like a second skin. That she certainly does not do.

  36. P n P F.Y.I you posted the interview video of sonam on the audi event i did not and in the video the journalist asked sonam ” toh delhi 6 ke baad paise jut gaye?” i did not if you posted the video you should delete the video first as that video has nothing to do with fashion i commented on that video because you posted it if you do not want people posting personal comments you should first stop doing that yourself. you owe me and a lot of others an apology as varsha rightly points out you are clearly playing fav . i have nothing personal against sonam or any other celeb sometimes its ok not to play by the rules and you should give us some levy if you do not then that just explains that u play fav with some celebs and some of your followers.

    • marky,
The video was posted first to display the outfit, because at that point we didn’t find any pics. As we mentioned time and again, all comments need to be relevant to fashion. With the many events that followed, we forgot to remove the video. As you can see though now, it has been removed.
As for playing favorites, there is no such thing. When we unapprove comments, all in the chain are automatically removed. It just feels like to you that your’s was the only one.
