In Chanel

Its a shame we still can’t find a full picture of Sonam to fully enjoy this one-shouldered Chanel on her. She paired the white gown with a black Bottega Veneta stretch knot clutch.

We loved the jewels in the hair and the black nails!

Update: So a lot of you have been asking about Sonam’s interview with Midday where she mentions about being the first person from Bollywood to be dressed by Chanel. Technically, she is right because this is the first time that Chanel sent designs to a person in the industry. Others who we’ve seen wear Chanel (Preity, Kahkashan….) weren’t approached as such by the design house and if you are wondering about Freida then you have to consider the fact that Freida has a stylist who knows a lot of designers personally and Sonam doesn’t have one.

Another Update: To clarify, what Sonam meant is that she was the first that Chanel sent designs to and not that she is the first to be dressed in Chanel. Hopefully that clarifies some of the doubts in everyones minds! 😉

  1. is heavy eye shadow a new trend ?
we’ve seen it on many (Bipasha, Kareena, Priyanka, etc.) in which I’m tired of it.

But Sonam does nail this look. Head to knees. Not sure about the toes yet.

P.S. Asin also carried a Bottega Veneta knot clutch at the award show too wearing a purple gown.

  2. she looks absolutely stunning! love the dress and the jewels in her hair..i’m actually not a big fan of the black nails..it’s so 2008..but overall, she looks fabulous!

  3. i like her look! i dont absolutely LOVE it but i really really like it.

i like that she took a simple dress and turned it into an amazing outfit by accessorizing it but theres something about it that i dont like.. i think its the black nails or those really UGLY earrings! or her nude lips.. a nice pink or red would have looked better with bare eye makeup..

    otherwise, she looks really good!

  4. Not liking the long black nails at all! Shorter may have looked better. also there is way too much frosty eyeshadow. But she still looks chic because she has a gorgeous face.

  5. wow! this is an impressive gown. she cudv done so much with it but the overall look is being ruined by her bad make up and untidy hair.
btw, PnP, y is Sonam going around town boasting that shez the 1st Bolly celeb 2b dressed by Chanel??? So many actresses wear Chanel! i don’t understand Sonam’s claim! any thoughts?

  6. Though the abysmal photography does no favors to her make-up, Sonam is a classic example of how a gown must be worn – she looks original, elegant and very classy. I am becoming convinced that when it comes to gowns, Bollywood ladies are better off with firang designers; Indian designers just don’t seem to get the construction right, and often their gowns just seem to lack originality.

  8. Apparently she is the first person in Bollywood to be dressed by Chanel.

Sonam Kapoor’s metamorphosis as a fashion diva came full circle on Saturday night at the Filmfare awards. She became the only Bollywood actress to wear a specially-designed gown by Chanel.

    Feel like Cinderella

The ebullient actress could barely contain her excitement. “I just kept staring at the beautiful, basic but simple white gown they sent me.

Yes, I think I’m the first Indian celebrity to be dressed by Chanel in Bollywood. I’m so excited. I felt like Cinderella before the ball. Never before have I been so excited about dressing up for an event.”

Apparently, after seeing Sonam’s spate of sophisticated magazine covers, Chanel voluntarily decided to send her a gown from their special-celebrity closet.

“That’s right. My off-shoulder gown came from their special-celebrity collection,” laughs Sonam triumphantly. “They just flew over three Chanel gowns for me to choose from.

I liked the white one. I prefer light shades. And I avoid accessories. They take away from the basic look of your clothes.

And what Chanel sent me for the Filmfare awards certainly needed no enchancement. It was divine, per se.”

A lot of designers are comparing Sonam to Penelope Cruz. “It was Sanjay Leela Bhansali who first compared me to her. I think it’s a huge compliment.

It isn’t as if I’m making a conscious effort to dress fashionably. I wear what I’m comfortable in.”

  14. I LOVE THIS LOOK!
and I actually love the black eyeshadow (I hate eyeliner) and the dark nails (I hate french manis)
    🙂
Love the simplicity of the dress, and I LOOOOVE the flowers in the hair (I’ve been obsessing about hair jewels)
lol, she’s a bit of a brat, but it’s endearing- and she doesn’t have that trained-to -talk-politically-correct schitck that most of these girls have (I gag during acceptance speaches)

  15. I think Chanel’s people noticing Sonam in magazines to send her this dress is about as true as Woody signing up Freida based on her acting prowess. hmm that didn’t make sense.
But the bottom line is Anil probably requested George (freida’s stylist) to hook up his daughter too with some free dresses.

  16. luna,
What she means is that she is the first person Chanel has sent stuff to not that she is the only person who has worn Chanel. Won’t be surprised if a few days later, she says how the media misconstrued her words! 😉

  17. I am reading her from the point of view as the Chanel design house picked garments from their collection only for her to an event in India who is known in India, and not on an international platform yet.
She seems knowledgeable about designer garments compared to most celebs in India, so I am sure she knows that there are people who have worn Chanel garments on their own or given by producers to wear on a show. I am assuming that she must have been told by the person whoever delivered the garments that it’s the first time Chanel had done to a celeb in India who is given to wear at an Indian award function picked by the design house specifically for her.

  18. LOL just read the updated comments. I don’t think AK begged anyone for her daughter, I really don’t think, although there might be a possibility of his SM fame to this. If he had gone any far, he might have said my daughter loves your design if he had met Karl Lagerfeld.

you’re right. read an interview on Sify where Asin says she “was wearing a Diane Von Furstenberg dress and it was a Bottega Veneta clutch. My accessories were from Anmol.”

Sonam = *love love love* now she’s undoubtedly & officially India’s first true celeb fashionista 🙂 yeaaaaaay

Filmfare best dressed round-up for me:
    Kareena – Bollywood glam

  22. Yes heavy eye makeup is in, smoky to be precise. And she looks really good! I like that she doesn’t always look the same. I like that she dares whether it comes out good or not. So kudos to her! I think she looks elegant here!

  24. Pure love is what I describe this look as. She takes chic to a whole new level. Absolutely LOVE her. Can’t believe she doesnt have a personal stylist… actually, she herself could do a better job than half the stylists out there!!!

  25. There is something about this lady! She is unconventional, sassy, coquettish and an anti-thesis of the traditional Indian woman with pallu over head. That’s what makes her beautiful – the fact that she doesn’t try to hard to look good. And this gown positively takes the cake, pastries, buns, pizzas and the whole bakery!
