Sari Style
Wearing what seemed like a Gaurang ikat sari, Shruti attended the wedding reception of Tamil actor Shantanu & VJ Keerthi. I wish we had more pics of Ms. Haasan because she looked lovely in this avatar. It’s one we don’t see her very often in and made for quite a sight.

Pretty pretty.!! I love this girl anyway, but she is looking damn beautiful here.
Looks like her mum in the first pic.
OH MY GOODNESS!! She DOES look like Sarika in the first picture. Oh! Wow!! So beautiful. STUNNING!! what a treat for the eyes this girl is…
My thoughts exactly!!
I looked at the first pic and thot it was sarika…did a double take! She looks so good.
For a minute I thought I was looking at Sarika. What a stunner she is. Love the sari.
oh..the lovely patola..revival of traditional indian weaves..so mch reqd..
Shruti looks lovely in it..
Holy crap. This is just beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Patola not Ikat. The pink dress by Rouka in the next post, that is ikat. That blurry finish in the dress is typical of ikat. Patola is also sometimes know as double Ikat, its amuch much more complex process. Please read up P&P.
Shruti looks stunning…though, I don’t know what Gaurang really did design-wise. These sarees made by master craftsmen have been available in India for centuries.
Was just about to type that. It’s a patola and in what way does it make it a ‘Gaurang’ sari???
Thanks for the info Hansini and Sm. I knew this was Ikat but didnt know the right term for it. Am going to look for it next time when i go saree shopping.
She looks absolutely gorgeous. What a beautiful girl.
I have seen thia saree in chennai stores like shilpi, sundari etc. Obviously this would be available in many places around the country . Why is this “a Gaurang”??
its nt Patola n neither any designer. It’s a traditional saree from Odisha .
Maybe a Gaurang – means designed/ commissioned by Gaurang and gotten from his store!! —- when you buy from stores like Nallis – you don’t know who the artist/ weaver is – you will say I got it from Nallis.
The said saree gets colloquially referred to as Nallis saree… That’s all there is to it…
So people chillax and enjoy the beautiful saree!!
There is nothing in this saree that Gaurang could have possibly designed or commissioned. This is a beautiful saree woven by artisans using centuries old techniques. If this is “a Gaurang” (which btw we are not sure) we just don’t understand why it would be. Nallis sells kanchipuram sarees for example. People are clear that the weave and textile is “kanchipuram” and it was purchased from a retail outlet called nalli. we would never say “she was wearing a nalli”; it is a kanchipuram from nalli

Add as many zeroes as you want. 🙂
I am from chennai. I have never heard anyone say “I am wearing a nalli”; we refer to sarees by their weaves and incase anyone wants to know where we bought it from, we say nalli or hayagriva or kumaran. If I bought this saree from shilpi, I would say a patola saree from shilpi; i guess a lot of us are not too crazy about an ancient weave suddenly becoming “a gaurang”

How lovely she looks. The traditional weaves are timeless. Love patola and ikat.
She looks absolutely fantastic! but (yes, there is a but) I am not sure about the choice of jewelry. The earrings are perfect for this. But the chain doesn’t seem to go very well. Nevertheless, she looks great.
she is looking very nice, but this saree at a reception doesn’t feel like the right choice.
How
Overly does she look here! And how refreshing to not see bling.for all you know she whacked this from her mom’s closet like we all do. However the draping looks a little sloppy in the first picture . Not sure if it is because of the angle at which it was taken
She looks fabulous!! I see Sarika too in the first pic.
Ladies and fellow traditional saree aficionados – its the same difference you will see in a traditional saree that you can get for a couple of thousands or a couple of lakhs!!
You will know the difference 🙂
And anyways PnP mentioned “maybe”
This definitely is a patola saree… And it is not something we wear for a reception… The neck-piece does not complement the saree… Wish she had styled it better and was reserved for an appropriate event
