Going Green

Overwhelming it sure was, but I for one, still loved this banana leaf print kaftan-esque top on Shobhaa. Loved the addition of the drop necklace and earrings.

  1. T-e-r-r-i-b-l-e. Who’s (ugly) curtain was stolen to make this. She doesn’t even display the confidence necessary to pull this off.

  2. This one looks so uncomfy to me… what happens to her right hand :P… not liking the dress, but loved the way Ms De looks so confident and radiant

  3. You girls don’t wanna be in the bad (nasty) books of Mrs. De right? fair enough. Her audacious lashings aren’t for the faint hearted 😀

To me, this is real, bloody bad.

  4. This print might work on a quirky umbrella or a gazebo but as a garment its plain awful.. and those accessories look like plastic tassles. This is what a failed project runway outfit looks like.

  5. Missy, I think you are absolutely right! 😀
Horrible dress, but I guess they have to face her bitchy comments if they say anything bad

    • hahaha that was my initial thought too, because this looks like a 4 year old’s halloween costume gone bad. WTHEYY for sure!!!

  6. it’s awful……the print may have worked in a dress avatar maybe…..but as a kaftan,it looks like a curtain.

  7. Yipes! This woman is usually well dressed – what went wrong here? Table cloth, shower curtain, bed-sheet – which one of these did she grab?

  10. what on the earth was S.De thinking when she chose this…she is the one to criticize every one and she ended up wearing such tacky outfit.

  11. I am sorry P&P
i under any circumstance CANNOT believe that you guys ‘like’ this outfit form any angle.
its sad if all this starts happening on this blog…cause thats the one difference i thought this blog had.

  12. Its strange to see this outfit on Ms. De who used to criticise people for wearing Salwar Kameezs instead of Saris because she felt that they looked like tents.

She had once written a long diatribe in TOI against people who did not wear the sensuous Sari and opted for Salwar Kameezs because it hid their imperfect bodies yada yada yada…

    WTHey for me….

    • Yes, I remember that article, @Shubha! and I also remember getting pissed – how long had it been that Ms De had caught a local in the morning rush? Or just had an ordinary, busy life where the sari was sooo impractical as compared to the less-fussy salwar kameez? Step out of your little ivory tower, Ms De…..

      • I know what u mean by saree being impractical…but i know tons of women who live in sarees and prefer it more than suit (i heard some say it is airy in the right places i.e like a skirt on the legs and open waist)..
So we cannot just say saree is impractical..its probably that we are just not used it…

        • Sure, there are thousands of women who live in sarees and swear by it – but the article was critical of middle-class women who had switched to salwars. You should not be critical of people who do not have access to the same resources that you do. How many working women have the time, energy or money to work on their bodies and sizzle in a saree? So, if they find it easier to ‘hide’ in a salwar kameez, so what?
Sorry, will now get off my soap-box… 🙂

  13. i know the 80’s were primetime for her, but, she needs to move out of that time zone.

she’s so passe, i am surprised people think she is still relevant enough to be scared of. a pulp fiction author is hardly qualified to critique others’ dressing. especially, one that is dressed like this!

  14. I am at sea as what to love here ?? The Banana leaf bean bag??
It looks like she grabbed the bed sheets from a themed resort hotel room, cut a hole through it and put it on.
Well, after giving it some thought, are you guys expecting an invite from Sobha/her social circle to some fab social do?
Cuz the article borders on buttering…..

  15. It’s funny to read the comments about social circles and buttering.

Neither do we live in Mumbai nor would ever run into these folks, so the question of buttering or trying to get into their social circle can never come into play.

As for the tunic, we did mention it was overwhelming but that aside we liked the print and thought she looked radiant. We are allowed our likes and dislikes, aren’t we?

We’d rather see an oversized top than a two inches too short dress any day.

  16. even if this was a maternity dress… this is possibly the most hideous outfit to date! some crazy joke in the name of fashion!

  17. gosh guys..really? i am trying to see what ur seeing…but no, its still ugly. I mean its like a banana tree is slowly swallowing her up, its already got her right arm.

  18. hmm i am in the minority but i actually like this on her. for once she is looking lovely. i just wish it was tailored properly that her arm was actually visible.
