Seeing Double

Comment image 19

There were these moments during the Kolkata Fashion Week that had us thinking of Anand Kabra… more than once! For instance, the gown on Abhishek Dutta’s runway though different in print from Kabra’s (also seen on Genelia) was sooo similar when it came to the silhouette!

And then of course there was the way that sari was styled with the whole ribbon/bow-tie thing on Weaves’ runway…

Makes one go ‘hmmmm’, no?

  1. How is it double? The top two pics are dresses, the bottom two are sarees….so how does the similarity begin. the bottom two have some stupid ribbon tied to make it look Japanese

  2. @Adit…the dress on the right looks like the dress on the left…that’s the double

as for the bow on the sari – i guess that’s more an inspiration of presentation rather than the actual thing…but the dress looks sooo similar
    sad sad

  3. I honestly CANNOT believe that someone would be so dumb as to copy designs so blatantly – that too from a fellow Indian designer who is almost sure to see the plagiarized designs at some ramp event or the other. I shudder to even speculate about the lack of imagination that would drive someone to do something so stupid.

  4. I don’t get the stupid bow on the sarees, so I don’t know why someone would copy it. The black saree with the blue border is a lovely combo but there is nothing new about it, I have seen it many times.

  5. It’s bad enough that someone chose to just tie a ribbon around a traditional-style saree (that in itself is extremely uncreative), but then someone had to actually rip that off? Double un-creativity.

  6. Are these women tied with the bow supposed to be gifts or something? it looks so stupid! And the black sari is such an old, timeless classic, nothing “designer” about it, right?

  7. Umm…apart from the copying part what I am appalled at is that the clothes in the Kolkata fashion week don’t even seem ironed. Way to be professional eh!

  9. The black saree and blouse look good .. (Minus the bow tie of course). There is nothing new about it though (My mom who is almost 70 has many sarees like this, I think she either calls them Chanderi or Bengali cotton sarees. The typical design is : Plain saree with a woven border in natural fibers)
