Sari Style

Wearing a cheery silk sari, Vidya inaugurated a handicrafts exhibition in Mumbai. With her hair in a braid, the actor finished out the look with a big matching bindi and Amrapali jewelry. She looked nice! That said, do wish Ms. Balan would try softer braids at times. This look would’ve greatly benefitted from one!

  1. I think she looks absolutely amazing. When she has her hair open, you guys say it weighs her down. When she braids it, you say make it softer. Make up your minds!! She looks really pretty and radiant here. Period.

  2. Such cheery and pretty colors for the monsoon. As for the braid, am just glad to see her hair not loose and parted in the middle.

  3. Wow, gorgeous. Love that she went with the simple everyday braid. It adds a certain elegance. also love that she pleated the pallu once which allowed her to lose the arm crook pose in a couple of photos.

  4. Here Vidya Balan has vey thin hair. So she uses hair extensions to make it thick all the time. But those hair extensions when hair left open are adding lot of volume to an already bulky voluminous dressing.

    • Oh so that mass of an unkempt hair when she has it open were extensions. Makes sense. I was wondering what happened to all that hair, the braid is so thin like a rat tail . Good Lord! True about the bulky dressing, look at her sandals even that is.

        • The irony is P&P had the same honest opinion about this lady’s ghastly fashion sense (or the lack of it). If you go through the archives, you will find tons (unless they deleted it.ahem). But last few years they started giving her free pass owing to the scary aunty mob at HHC. 😀

        • That’s not me, Sapphire. I have never seen that ad. 🙂

Also for people who have commented about good taste. Yes, if not appreciating shabby-bad dressing which does not limit to nasty hair colored fake hair with extensions, unkempt hair, bad draping, cheap accessories, fugly wedges and sometimes fake eye lenses is considered bad taste. I sure can live with that ladies. Thanks. 🙂

          • It’s not about whether you dislike hair extensions, wedges etc, it’s about being able to express one’s opinions without resorting to name-calling. I understand that the distinction is hard for you to grasp.

  5. LOVELY!! Like a typical Iyer girl that she is.. Gorgeous…. I am glad she did not wear fake hair or extensions. I am extremely proud of her, that she doesnt choose to “doll” herself up in clothing going around half naked like Malaika or Lisa Hayden (?) in that shimmering blue and gold on second page

If thats what fashion is, I am happy Vidya is totally unfashionable

I dont agree with Chennaidiva’s comments at all, what does “dress according to her position mean?” All the Tamil actresses look like they are about to go for a Playboy or Vogue shoot, there is no originality left. There is no distinction, from stars naming their new borns DAMIEN to dressing up like Angelina Jolie, wev’e become one anorexic copy cat culture

    WAY TO GO VIDYA!!!

  6. Love her for keeping her looks original and sticking to her style. But minor tweaks needed on the saree draping, arm placement etc which is getting too monotonous. Love to see her one day in a nice fitted denim and casual tee or shirt.

  7. A typical iyer -iyengar girl or maami will be insulted by such a comment. How wonderfully they wear their drapes, the hairstyles, the nice jumkis, maalas on them and comparing them with this lady? LMAO!

    • Couldn’t have said it better! The Maamis are prettily dressed. Vidya Balan is a lost cause, she and fashion or graceful in the same sentence is an oxymoron. lol.

      • What about this look is not graceful. She looks beautiful and radiant. One can drape saris in many ways. And the way she does it is equally graceful. She gives an educated intellectual leftist vibe, which she is- something that cannot be said about any other actress baring the likes of konkana or nandita. Vidya wears saris so organically.. It’s like her extension. I hate those pinned up drapes where a sari ends up looking like a dress.
