There’s a fine balance between a quirky look and looking “costumey”. This one just crosses over to a sad “costumey” look. Odd choice for the event.

+1 why would anyone do this to a saree?!

That outfit is all kinds of ugly. “Yours truly”, really?? That blouse, omg ?
Only saving grace is her face.

Seriously this costumey ugly saree for a cancer survivor event. Jeez.

A bit too much for the event in question. And way too costume-y. She and her poses always look so forced. “Yours truly”?? Really.. its not even quirky, its just plain silly..

Lol. Yeah forced poses. And that “yours truly” is lame af.

So consumed are they by fashion and public appreciation that everything outside this bubble is inconsequential like event appropriateness !

I was just going to comment the same thing. It’s an overexposed life and some of these starlets have such a small shelf life that any such publicity on any occasion is very important to them.

Is that an actual physical newspaper tucked into the back of her blouse? What on earth!? Boggles the mind..the lengths people go to.

May not be event appropriate but if we set that aside for a moment, here is a young South Indian actress who makes interesting choices and can make quirk work.

PS: I like the concept of this sari. And the idea of text on fabric but this particular text I am unsure. And would skip the front bow.

Not event appropriate but takes a lot of guts to wear this out and make it work.

    she does it well, effortlessly.

She is trying hard to be Vidya Balan of Tollywood. I think I will get a big lecture for my comment.

The quirk is appropriate if you take into consideration that all of these “social service” appearances generally coincide with the release of a new film. She is dressed for a movie promotion, and this is a PR opportunity.
Remember Aishwarya’s appearance at Sarabjit’s death anniversary? Or Alia’s sudden appearance at an orphanage?

I think you guys are all over thinking it… why is it not event appropriate; can’t cancer survivors have a sense of humour? The silly text aside, it’s covering her from head to toe, not vulgar in any way, and she looks good! Her face is glowing here… that blouse is quirky and fun, it’s the choice of words on the front that’s silly but there’s so much silly going on in fashion these days. Have you seen Mini Mathur lately? Those atrocious fusion sarees she wears? This is so much better.

Agree. It was an event to ‘celebrate’ cancer survivors day. I just saw some pictures of this event on another website and her vibe is easy and relaxed. Though I’m not a fan of the saree but it wasn’t a deal breaker tbh. At least it wasn’t garish!

whatever is becoming of fashion- such an ugly outfit :(

what are these poses?? and what are these smug expressions?q is looking good without being so self aware just not possible?

    1. Avani at | | Reply

Ha ha ha. She does these same stupid posing with smug expressions in all the pics. They think that is how you show “attitude” to wear quirky.

  14. The Pizza Ghoul at | | Reply

No she isn’t making this work. That newspaper tucked in the back of her blouse makes it costumey for anywhere! Should have also skipped the nose ring.

You’re not over thinking. Most of these stars are taking their public appearances a bit far. It’s fast becoming a turn off – the coif, the make up, the couture, the stylists’ instagramming them, everything. Just ugh!

Something’s always amiss! The energy and confidence maybe. This look is kinda silly though

All very strange. Like she’s acting in some street nautanki with a public service message.

Inappropriate event to try and wear a ‘statement’ saree.

  20. MyfashRow at | | Reply

I think this is perfect for the event. What would you want her to wear? It’s organic, cotton, handloom and yes promoting a new designer. She makes me smile, I’m sure the cancer patients she met smiled too! The saree itself is about a sensitive social awareness of almost obsolete idea of postal letters, messages of love. I think I can’t imagine any other outfit on her for this event other than this. Sorry, that’s my opinion. Thumps up to her for being so bold always.

    1. Piku at | | Reply

I like this thought and I wish PnP did a little more than she wore a sweet summer designer outfit and therefore it was event appropriate!

    2. kasthuri at | | Reply

What a beautiful way to look at it.

    3. Ebell at | | Reply

I would have preferred if she just wore a simple organic suit. This is a point many of you made earlier and I agree – why do these actresses overthink an appearance? “Sensitive social awareness of almost obsolete idea of postal letters, message of love”? Really? Like, really? It sounds good when you are trying to design an outfit and market it, but using the design philosophy to justify an actress wearing it to an event like this, is an overreach. And a bit too much. Everything about this look is costumey – the outfit, the hair, the nose pin, the smug smile. And no, she is not being bold – she is just trying too hard every single opportunity she gets. You don’t have to be bold in fashion choices while visiting cancer patients.
