It was a collection with components that we are all familiar with… the colors, the prints, the fabrics and yet interpreted in a whole fresh way. Paromita Banerjee’s collection called “The Laal Paar and Other Stories” was an ode to the Indian handlooms and drew it’s inspiration from the Bengali “Laal Paar” which is the traditional red bordered sari.

While I wasn’t particularly fond of the wrap jackets and kurtas which seemed much too busy with the colors, prints and silhouette in question all thrown into the mix, I do recognize it’s more my personal taste speaking that anything else. The clothes were summer perfect and bohemian with a healthy dose of desi.

What I absolutely loved, loved about the collection were the pieces that were minimal and played with the ‘red border’ interpretation.

  1. Conceptually interesting. But that second picture – hmm – could easily be employed by advertisers keen on convincing us that menstraul fluid is like ink and must be contained by a pad at all times.
