WLIFW Spring 2013: Surily

Aztec prints, pops of neon, beaded/embellished pieces and fringe accents, Surily’s latest showing had ’em all. With its easy jumpsuits, dresses and separates, the collection is sure to be a favorite among the designer’s many celebrity friends.

While the collection was very commercial, it also felt hugely derivative of what’s already out there. The embellished aztec prints hint at All Saints, the tassel hem brings to mind Opening Ceremony, the fringe on printed dresses reminds one of Missoni and the chain-embellished tops say Malandrino. Just saying.

WLIFW Spring 2013: Kiran Uttam Ghosh

Asymmetrical hemlines, sparkle and layers. Kiran Uttam Ghosh presented a collection rich in silhouettes she is best known for. My favorites were the two saris/sari-inspired looks in Row One.

WLIFW Spring 2013: Suneet Varma

To me, a Turban brings with it some strong visuals. A time when Maharajas more than fleetingly inspired global style. Like Fifties Dior, or vintage Halston. Elizabeth Taylor. What Suneet Varma did with Turbans and the garments that went with ’em… I’ll let you make up your own mind on them. Me? I need a drink.

WLIFW Spring 2013: Taika By Poonam Bhagat

A Slice of Samarkand and A Bite of Bukhara was the theme of the collection presented by Poonam Bhagat under her label Taika. True to the theme, we saw Suzani embroidery presented in the form of dresses, vests and long robes with white, red and black being the predominant color scheme.

My favs from the collection, the jumpsuit and the vest.

WLIFW Spring 2013: Wendell Rodricks

One of the early purveyors of Resort in India, the Goa-based designer presented another strong collection that stayed true to his aesthetic. Decidedly more glamorous (the shimmer!), the silhouettes continue to stay organic, fluid and easy while basked in that healthy glow of ‘sexy‘. While his collection may not be for everyone, longtime Wendell loyalists won’t be disappointed.
