Sari Style

In a simple blue silk sari, Nayanthara looked rather lovely at a recent event.

On an aside though, between the sari, the blouse and the styling, we can’t be the only ones having a Rani-Vidya flashback… Right? Right?

  2. GUYS IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE SARI BECAUSE ‘IT IS NOT A SARI’!! ….This beautiful piece worn by nayanthara is a MEKHELA CHADOR, the traditional dress of the state of ASSAM(now Axom) . I know this because i hail from this place. The silk is called ‘pat’ that she is wearing. Though it looks like a sari when worn but is actually entirely different. It is divided into two parts- mekhela(the lower thing which is like a ‘ghaghra’) and covering the upper body is the chadar( ‘chador’ as we pronounce). You can spot the difference by the pleats which is so different from sari.

Feels good that now it is worn even outside assam and celebs are popularising it by wearing this beautiful creation which is the ‘hard work and passion of the rural women of Assam”. Its unacceptable for us if people confuse it with sari so couldn’t help but comment.

And at the same time VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE CREW OF HHC FOR MAKING SUCH A FASHION MISTAKE.
HHC CREW- RATHER BEING SO THOROUGH ABOUT ALL THE INTERNATIONAL BRANDS AND DESIGNERS, RESEARCH ON THIS GORGEOUS THING AS IT IS THE NEXT BIG TREND COMING UP IN THE TRADITIONAL FASHION INDUSTRY!! ;-))
P.S.- Nayanthara looks really gorgeous in this mekhela chador! 🙂

    • wow, you get mekhalas in such gorgeous colours? have mostly seen them in creams and whites. while i agree it doesn’t become to be making this mistake (though it’s understandable), i don’t quite buy that this is the “next big trend” — mekhala-chadors have been around forever!

    • I saw a full length pic of hers in another site and not sure if this is what you are referring to. What she is wearing a regular silk saree.

    • Omg… How rude are you!!
Thanks for the heads up and it was very informative. But the HHC ‘crew’ have never claimed to be encyclopedias of traditional indian wear. Its great that they are one of the only blogs to make it mainstream!
Also, their knowledge on international brands is very impressive – always on the ball and ask for ID help straight up. Never gloating about knowing things other may not have heard of.
Please remove your shoes before entering someone else’s house – thanks! xx
