While we hunt for a full-length, here is your first look at Nandita also wearing a sari on the red carpet. At first glace, I found the necklace competing with the earrings, but the more I look, I don’t mind it.

She looked great.

P.S. That’s Nimrit Kaur (in Sabyasachi) behind her.

  1. I love Nandita. She always manages to look charming in simple, earthy outfits and has the vibe of a kindly next door neighbor. She could pass for a woman in her mid-20s. And that smile is always so warm and loving.

    • I know you meant well, but she is too elegant with a great sense of graphic style to be considered “neighborly”. Agree about the warmth though.

  2. Nandita is so pretty, much prettier than Vidya ever will be. THe only thing is that I wish she had some more makeup on, her face always looks the same. Some variety would be nice for a change, but she’s lovely!

    • Nandita is beautiful beyond words, but is that Vidya comment really necessary? It’s fine if that’s your preference, but there’s no need to pit people against each other. To each his own, my dear.

    • Do you have something against Vidya?! Just because two women happen to wear sarees and not bandage dresses, it doesn’t mean you have to constantly pit them against each other and pull one down!

    • I think its worth saying – because Vidya has sort of taken on the traditional sari mantle and while I say kudos for bringing trad back, its Nandita who really sets the standard for how gorgeous a girl can look in a traditional sari. Vidya kind of looks matronly , when the traditional sari really is super graceful and sexy.

  3. In every projection of her being..from her austere cinematic sensibilities and aesthetics to her sartorial indulgences and lifestyle choices…everything is so unabashedly and immutably Odia…
That saree is an Odia Kotpad I’m guessing…I may be biased, but somehow such self-assured people with an unrelenting grasp of their cultural identity never go wrong with anything..

    • Eh? Oriyas have the copyright on aesthetics, or what? Punjabis or Himachalis or Keralites or Mork the Martian can also have good taste and impeccable cultural sensibility. What is *definitely* tasteless is bringing regional politics into this decidedly apolitical debate.

      • In which part of my statement did I mention “Odias” having the copyright on aesthetics? and where did your unusually sensitive mind sense the politics?…every race, every community has a particular manner of manifesting their aesthetic, unique only to them and often recognizable, one which most of us no longer stay true to it in the name of globalisation and avoiding standing out in an environment and work culture that celebrates collectivism and uniformity,I know Nandita personally and she is nothing if not fiercely Odia. I would appreciate anyone equally who flaunts their cultural identity notwithstanding where they come from…show me a “Punjabi or Himachali or Keralite or Mork the Martian” in these pages who is this irreverent and non-confirming and I will write the same for them…and don’t you suffocate in your insufferable effete political correctness? you have to pounce this viciously on someone for what? calling someone from Odisha an Odia?!! and I am bringing in “regional politics” to this discussion?! My observation was devoid of any communal connotations. You Sir/Madam are just subliminally voicing your own communal sentiments, and insecurity at someone ascribing a root to a successful person..esp a root that is different from yours’..you very conveniently chose to ignore the conclusion I tried to convey at the end about people with a keen understanding of their cultural roots never going wrong with anything…classic Freudian Slip?

      • Hence the use of “I am guessing”…my mother has a Kotpad silk that looks almost exactly like this with the “Kumbhas” slighly more prominent..

  6. We have seen a lot of this over the top projected ” Indianness” lately it’s refreshing to see Nandita keep it simple beautiful confident but not weird. More power to her!!

      • Very well put and agree 100% with Eclat and others. She is so pretty, and carries herself with so much elegance and class. Nothing costumey about this woman. Have met her in real life too and she is just as warm and gracious as she looks (at least judging by a short meeting). I do wish she had worn some lipstick/gloss for an added dash of color.

  8. We just don’t see too much of her, that’s why we feel she looks refreshing and elegant. If she made as many appearances as does Vidya, we would start calling her repetitive too…Wouldn’t we? That thought aside, of course she looks wonderful – she is Nandita Das, the one who can do no wrong.

  9. Whoa. She looks so graceful. Also, she looks way more amazing in her non-designer silk saree than most others in their designer wear. It’s all about how one carries it, after all.

  10. I love how she wears her bindi just right and not smack in the middle of her brows like everyone else in Bollywood these days.
