Engagement and Wedding Style

It was a traditional Brahmin wedding for actress Manisha Koirala and Samrat Dahal held in Kathmandu Nepal. The bride wore a traditional red sari with a 3/4th sleeve brocade blouse and the groom a traditional Nepali outfit.

At the engagement ceremony, Manisha looked uber gorgeous in her yellow sari and Samrat looked handsome in a suit with a Nepali topi.

Congratulations to the couple!

    • i think im the only who thinks that her dress is rather tacky and bright to make u blind. and whts with grass necklase and the humugous bindi on their heads.

      • The grass necklace and the humongous bindi on their foreheads might look strange to the uninitiated eyes but they are both important to all traditional Nepali Brahmin weddings.

The humongous bindi is called Tika and is a mixture of abir(a red powder), yoghurt, and grains of rice which Nepalese wear on special (or religious) occasions and it symbolises the third eye, or mind’s eye, that is associated with many Hindu gods and the idea of meditation and spiritual enlightenment.

The green necklace are made of special particular leaves and symbolise good luck in Nepali culture. They are also used in prayers, in a similar manner to how flowers are used at temples. Also, garland made in that manner with those leaves do not get droopy quickly.

    • Shilpa’s wedding attire was very traditional as well. The jewellery included standard items worn by Bunt brides and also seen in other south Indian weddings. The less said about her reception dress/lehenga whatever it was the better.

I would love to see more of Manisha’s sarees .. hope she wears them again sometime and we get a better view!

  8. congratulations Manisha and Samrat!!..Manisha is glowing with happiness and why not its her big day!Personally i love the traditional touch the wedding has ..from the grooms’ nepali oufit to the “traditional neplai band playing nepali folk songs …that i watched in some video.” And the grass garland is traditional as well..i think ..its considered auspicioius” in nepali wedding.I also liked that actor Jackie shroff wore a traditional nepali “daura suruwal”as it is known in nepal a traditional outfit that nepali men wear.It looks all good although I thought Manisha could have chosen subtle warm colors for her reception party
