Sari Style

Turning director, Konkona attended the launch of her movie wearing a striped woven sari. A classic wristwatch and pair of silver earrings were her accessories of choice. The ease with which she wears her saris makes her a favorite of ours, this sighting of hers a case in point. That said, just wish she had remembered to take the clip off before heading on to the stage… Minor beef but ruins a picture, especially when the setting isn’t quite casual.

  1. So glad there are still people who can look effortlessly fashionable WITHOUT caring about being “perfectly turned out” – the way websites like this, that instead of looking at the OVERALL output, dissect a look into its most tiny components.

  2. Sloppy drape is not “quirky” or “relaxed” or “earthy”. It is just sloppy and it is not considered ok in any other regular job either.

    • This isn’t some hostess job, no reason a soft cotton sari needs to be too proper looking. I like this comfortable easy look. I agree she shouldn’t be putting her hair clip on her sari, lol.

  3. This appearance of hers gives an easy, breezy and comfortable vibe. I know this is not perfectly draped saree but, if people can wear ‘distressed to the max’ torn jeans and call it fashion, why not wear a sloppily draped saree. To me pallu should be draped fine, and here she draped properly.

  4. I dont know what’s missing, maybe a bindi, or some bangles / a necklace (I know I sound like my Grandma)..
but something is seriously lacking in this look.

I love how she and Nandita have such a penchant for cotton sarees. That said, this look is definitely on the sloppy and unfinished side. Open hair made is slightly better.

  5. A simple look which could have been elegant too if she bothered draping her saree properly. Either pleat the pallu neatly or let it hang neatly. With the way she has it, she may as well tuck the end of her pallu at her waist and then she’d look reallllly comfy.. like ready to clean the floors comfy! Smh.

  6. Draping is sloppy hence bringing the look down. Otherwise, it is the usual easy casual sari clad look of Ms Sharma. And this is- was the skin tone of Kajol, lol! At least there are a very few like Konkana who do not do shameful things like white wash nor do they do “transformation” to look fair.

  7. I like thie ‘casual’ look, given it’s Konkona’s style. But something is amiss….ditch the earrings and add a long silver tribal necklace, maybe? Can’t put my finger on it.

    • Felt the same. I think its the bare neck. I don’t usually think its necessary or better to have earrings + neckpiece within traditional wear, but in the pictures, the bare neck really makes it seem like something is missing. She looks lovely and comfortable otherwise.

  8. Atleast her pallu always covers both the boobs which is what a pallu should cover at a minimum so sloppy at not she and Nandita always get it right when it comes to graceful draping of the sari. I hate it when one boob is exposed for some reason I cannot understand in most celebrity sari pictures.
