In Eka

Wearing an Eka sari, Kiran along with her family greeted media on the occasion of Eid. A glossy lip, Victorian-inspired jewelry and a chain-strap bag finished out the filmmaker’s look. Nice as she looked, something more festive wouldn’t have been remiss.

  1. For a festival??? I’m not even a Muslim but I dress up alot more than this to part take in the festivities with my friends. It looks like she is more interested in flaunting the latest “must have” than the festival its self!

  2. She looks great. Her husband and her son are wearing white…she can’t wear white as it is a symbol of sadness/widowhood etc. in our culture but this goes well with what her husband & her son are wearing! I looked at her and I felt cool on a hot summer day 🙂

  3. She looks elegant and understated. Not everybody has to be loud and tacky just because they are associated with Bollywood.

  4. I love the tailoring of the blouse and I am very inspired to get my next one stitched in this style. However I still don’t get Eka brand. The prints are very dish towel / lungiesque.

  5. Love this girl – she has sass and knows how to flaunt it! This is what I mean by own the look vs the women who look ill at ease as they miss exactly that.

  6. I love this!!!! I mean I looked at this and wondered, how airy she must be feeling in that cool cotton fabric in this sweltering heat. This look is seriously apt for ANY age. Because when it comes to saree, we have separate “designs” & “patterns” for older as well as younger women. This saree is is such, that can be worn by older and younger women alike.. I can ANYDAY wear this for some festivity! Aww I so wear this to my office someday! 😛

The first comment is really mean. I mean if she had to tread the path of “swag” (that is what the comment conveys), then she would have draped it in a not so regular fashion.. This look is classy and chic and at the same time very “common man type” (the way women usually drape their saris in daily life). I would anyway wear this in a heartbeat than wearing those loose pallu styled sloppily draped sarees worn just to look different! Kiran Rao has always dressed such and I’m happy that her dressing is always real.

And oh! that simple neckpiece looks so nice. And how pretty is her smile!!! 🙂

  8. It does seem that clothing has to be either “loud and flamboyant” or “dull and drab”. This outfit is the latter, and the drape does nothing to salvage it. And oh god the first pic.

  9. I think she looks beautiful & truly comfortable. Her style is very individualistic, she wears it with utmost simplicity & confidence.rare to be seen in women mostly wanting to follow blind hideous sari statement trends.I would do this look exactly like this. & her smile is so infectious. simplicity wins my heart.
