In Oscar De La Renta

Comment image 82

Wearing a strapless Oscar De La Renta gown, Katrina made her debut on the Cannes red carpet on opening night. Having seen this pic earlier, I knew I was going to be on the fence about how the red hair would look on the red carpet.

I can’t fault the styling here which was rather elegant but the red hair did distract from the overall look. I know some of you like the shade of red on her. Am just not a fan. Of the hair color, that is.

P.S. We know the hair color is for her role in Fitoor.

  1. the ultimate let down of all let downs. Anaita should be fired on the spot for having her don such an underwhelming creations, Katrina looks like +1 or someone Publicist.

      • Wow i didn’t know Anaita styled this look! I love the hair and the colour but the gown is very very safe and predictable and did not pack the punch. I mean did you see what the others wore today!? Ladies took it up a level! Katrina looked lost in the dazzle. Bechari.

  2. WOW she is looking so stunning and elegant! the red hair is loveeeee, the gown looks fantastic on her body! she looks classy and very beautiful! LOVE IT !

  3. The red hair worked perfectly on the dress, but i expected sumthing more from her. This surely is boring and disappointing!

  4. Boring. That gown has been seen in many iterations on many starlets. A boring gown needs to be worn with some pizazz.

I agree about the red hair. The problem is the color which looks fake – not red but burgundy.

  5. Understated elegance is never a bad thing. However one cannot help but observe that none of the cameras are pointed at our lady. All the eyes are looking elsewhere. Maybe they are waiting for Sheila.

  6. My issue is, why didn’t they dye her hair back to her normal brown/black for this event? She could have dyed it back to this hideous red for her movie. Its not working, and that dress is something we’ve seen on so many people before (different variations of course).
Round one = fail for Ms. Kaif.

  7. Sigh. The dress is awful, the lip color bad, and the hair looks even redder for some reason. It’s bad news when your wax replica looks more real than the real you. P&p have been nice enough to post some flattering pics, I saw some scary ones elsewhere

  8. It is sad that you made this post all about her Red hair. Too bad you are not a fan of the “Red Hair”. No mention of how good she is looking otherwise. In her comfort zone yes but still stunning and better than from what we expect from Katrina.

    • +1.
She dyed her hair red. Big freaking deal. Just suck it up, guys.
I think she looks better thsn what I expected of her. I do think tophough that she should have avoided too much bronzer.

  9. Wow.. awful. Seriously awful. She has no sense of style whatsoever.

Waiting for Aishwarya and Sonam, hope they don’t disappoint.

    • What? ‘No sense of style whatsoever’ is so harsh it’s almost ludicrous. You may not like it but that statement is plain absurd. She is a stunningly beautiful woman who needs no gimmicks.

  10. Contrary to the rest if I dare say, that hair color looks quite striking on her skin tone and she is easily pulling it off! The make-up is fab, fierce – again goes very well with the hair.
What I don’t like, is the dress itself. That dress would have been appropriate red carpet dress for a fall/winter event, but it is absolutely unacceptable for a spring/summer look! A definite misstep from her stylist.

  11. Uggh, that hair UGGGGHHHHHH..
Why would one not dye it back to a regular black/ auburn for the Cannes eent and then go back to that shudderingly ugly red shade. And the dress looks nice on her but is nothing even remotely different..

  12. Also it is pretty sad to see the photographers behind her – not one soul is even attempting to take a picture of Ms Kaif. Barring Aishwarya, none of the Indian celebrities even get a remote amount of coverage from Cannes, except for a few Indian photographers feeding back home. I don’t know why these celebs even bother to attend.

    • Why will they take a picture from behind? The photographers click pictures when the star poses for them.. those who are behind Katrina were probably clicking pictures of stars who’re posing for them!!

  13. My gripes are four fold:
she is boring – no star quality
    make up is boring
    dress is as always boring
a dye job for Cannes is the least she could have done.

  14. The gown is very average. Nothing special about it all.. but thr hair colour is just terrible 🙁

C’mon Kat..you can do sooo much better

  15. I’m in neutral position about her hair colour though it doesn’t impress me too much, but it seems on some close-ups that this dress doesn’t suit her well, like it makes her look broad and flat in some points, the upper part doesn’t do any good and it seems like there is no waist. The skirt part is fab, but I’ve really hoped for more.

  16. The red hair makes her look sooo orange! That hair color does nothing for her.
That dress is seriously hideous. I cannot believe out of all of the dresses/designers at her fingertips, this is what she’d pick/wear.
I bet Sonam is laughing (more like ROFL) at this mess! haha

  17. The problem is not just the hair colour but how underwhelming and laden with bad choices the look is. I understand she may want to save the bold lips for another day but there are so many lovely nude lip shades that do not make one look bland. The jewellery is very meh and adds nothing whatsoever to the look. The hair is not just red but oily and flat. And I cant believe someone who makes a living out of styling others would let her client hit the red carpet without some interesting nail varnish or at least a French manicure.

  18. Has she tanned herself to look more Indian? This overall look is such a snooze fest. But then that’s Katrina Kaif for you…total meh!!
Looking forward to seeing Sonam and Aishawarya.
Nandita Das does ethic Indian wear so effortlessly. She is a timeless, classic and elegant beauty who represents India and rightly so.

  19. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t she a supermodel before becoming an actress? I’m asking cos she looks really uncomfortable and also seems pretty self-conscious in all the pics. Not only is the hair not working but it’s as if a normal person was picked off through a lottery to represent Loreal at Cannes !! And yeah, looks like she has tanned a bit too which is making the hair more unsuitable for her !!!

  20. She had made it very clear that she’s not going to don something extraordinary but safe doesn’t have to be boring 🙁 I’m seriously underwhelmed and somewhat mad at Anaita for not bringing out the best in her even within her safe comfort zone. Her face, tan and hair look great..I love the spunk the red hair adds to her otherwise dull appearances but the gown ahh the gown is seriously disappointing.

  21. Her hair colour looks fake. so it makes her look a little tacky. I could have still ignored it, if not for the boring dress. I feel like I’ve seen it before a lot. Overall it’s not terribly bad look but definitely underwhelming.

  22. Holy god ! This is epic fail. L’oreal must be regretting their decision to get Katrina on board. They should have just stuck with Sonam and Aishwarya. Katrina’s gown is as depressing as her bf.

    • You’re joking right? Kat has been topping the list of most googled Bolly actress for several years. L’Oreal is not a successful global corporation because it is run by idiots but by those who want to capitalize on her popularity and rake in the profits.

  23. Poor Katrina should have taken tips from Kareena Kapoor Khan. That woman has a great sense of style and looks every bit of royalty.

  24. I just had a good laugh looking at this disastrous outfit. She went to Cannes to ruin India’s image as a whole with that gown and red hair. The gown itself is as depressing as her love life. Thumbs down. Katrina please come back home and don’t embarrass us even more.

    • Wow! Aggressive much. I’m pretty sure India’s image is not built on Katrina Kaif’s shoulders. And she’s hooking up with Ranbir Kapoor – not sure her love life’s that depressing. That guy can MOVE! If only we could all be so lucky. Am I right ladies?! : )

  25. Holy moly. Enough about the hair. It’s for a movie for crying out loud. It’s not something she has any control over, and for people saying dye it black and then back to red after Cannes, do you have any idea at all how damaging that would be for her hair?! Katrina looks beautiful and comfortable in what she’s wearing? What would you have her wear on the red carpet? A parachuting outfit. It’s Oscar De La Renta for crying out loud. Agreed, particularly given her complexion and current hair colour, a gorgeous emerald green would be stunning on her but lay off. She looks classy, elegant and she’s wearing her clothes, not the other way around. Sonam can do the crazy costume get up – she has to because she’s nowhere near as pretty as Katrina and needs to find a talking point somewhere otherwise she’s a plainish girl in a simple dress.

  26. Katrina is very English is in her tastes and sensibilities. Not surprised by the understated gown. And it’s very elegant. I wish there was some drama in terms of hair and makeup. And the most important point is that she looks very very stiff. Bad body language. Ease up a little woman!

  27. I love her in this look!! So sexy 🙂 Glad she finally left her comfort zone a bit…now only if the dress was a bit more exciting 🙂 I cant understand all the viciousness in the last few posts..

  28. She fits right into the X-men series !! That hair is such a downer … it looks horrible against the outfit – A BIG NO !!!
L’oreal needs to work on changing her hair color overnight please

  29. She looks stunning although everyone had higher expectations from Katrina. I really hoped she did a temporary dark brown or black hair color (im sure they have such hair products in Loreal).. As it is, I don’t really mind the red hair because it’s styled well and smooth. But I have to admit, this woman is so beautiful … Her face!! just aaaahh!… her makeup on point !! Looking forward to her other appearances .. goodluck Kat! xx

  30. She looks good in her own comfortable way. Any other outfit would have been a disaster considering that hair color. I just dislike that tan she has on. She had good skin tone why change it to look more “desi”? Sigh.

  31. Is it true that Anaita styled her? Because Anaita does such fantastic ob with Deepika but when it comes to Katrina, this is just so average. Either Katrina should start taking some fashion risks. She is endorsing a fashion after all.

  32. I maybe in the minority here but minus the red hair, I like how she looks. Frankly just because its not pushing the envelope like Sonam Kapoor doesn’t mean this is bad. She does look elegant and the styling is working with her personality which is more simple and mellow and that’s why she looks comfortable and alluring due to the confidence. I have seen way worse with other actresses at Cannes. She looks beautiful in my books!

  33. Ah so her hair is red for a film role! In that case I guess she didn’t really have a choice. I agree with you about it being distracting, that’s the only thing I’d change about the whole look.

  34. Katrina looks stunning on that dress! Incredible woman! And for the hair colour for me she looks great even with this colour, it’s not so much important!

  35. She personifies the saying that clothes don’t make us but vice versa! Can’t believe this is how she chose to look at Cannes! Also we are so star struck by these “film stars” in India but put them on an international platform and this is how underwhelmed they look! Nothing about this look stands out… Quite pathetic!!Did she forget she’s representing a make up brand??? Could have done with some makeup at least!!!

  36. Meh! What a boring & dated look. Is she playing safe because she is engaged?Does nothing for her. Nor does the hair. She looks very tanned.

  37. Nothing is special about this look, the hair color is tacky, she seemed to have lost a lot of wait really quickly so hence the “hard face” look; the bust is way too small, she aint that petite, sadly a disappointing first appearance.

  38. It’s nothing stunning. Quite ordinary actually. But the red hair does bother me. Not everyone looks great with such a strong red tone and that includes Katrina.

  39. Auburn hair and desi tan. Such a mismatch. And totally been there done that dress. Expected more from her. She could have at least worn something similar to that Jenny Peckham one.

  41. I must be in a serious minority, but i actually really like this look. While the dress is on the simpler side, and not usually something I’d favor, I think the red hair actually contrasts it by making it much edgier. I’ve been looking at this picture for a couple days trying to understand why people hate it so much…but I quite like!
