Retr(OH)!

In the spirit of her period film, Kangna went retro at her movie’s success bash in a gold lamé one-shouldered dress which she paired with a gold minaudiere and a headband. OTT it might have been, but she pulled it off. And how! We like.

On an aside, you think Missy drew inspiration from a previous co-star? Look inside to see what we mean. 😉

  1. This is originally Parveen Babi’s style. PC looks so much like her. Kangana has too much make-up on, looks cakey. But still manages to pull it off. The attitude helps.

  2. You know what, my favorite period of Bollywood ended in the 80’s, so I totally love this.
I love love love the retro look, always. I say if you want to go for it, then go for it. This is obviously a little kitsch, but she’s working the angle. It’s refreshing and I’m babbling. Love.

  4. Except that Kangana looks a million times better than PC.
I love that dress…it’s totally her and totally fabulous. It’s also what I would wear if I wasn’t a software geek and had a movie success party to attend. However, gold lamé dress + gold miniaudiere + gold headband + too much bronzer + copper hair is making me nauseous. I wish she had accessorized with tan/brown leather…ah, she would’ve looked stunning.
Anyway, lamé Grecian dresses FTW, and Kangana \m/.
    =)

  7. i’ve always loved retro , hence like this look of kangana, even though her make up and hair color is loud.i also like how she keep experimenting with her looks and try to bring something new to us + look effortless most of the time

  8. She does pull it off given the occasion n her role in the movie! N good on her for going OTT I mean when else ud get the opportunity 2 wear something so filmi n retro n get away with it. She totally has the attitude. The only thing I’m peeved abt is her makeup! I mean although the make up in that era was also very OTT but if u look at parveen Babi or zeenst Aman it didn’t look like they were abt to b suffocated under layers of makeup!

  9. I hate the headband worn that way. Paris Hilton has been trying so hard to start that fad. But its too Pocahontas for my liking.

  10. Oh yes…when “we all” do that, drawing inspiration is great, when Sonam Kapoor does it,it is blatant copying and lack of originality.

  11. A very good attempt at retro – if only she would have tamed down the bronze/gold makeup and hair, she would have nailed it. Nevertheless, a brave attempt.

  13. This looks horrible from head to toe. I can’t believe P&P gave a thumbs up to this look. There is retro good and retro bad and this look falls in the bad category.

  14. Lady Liberty??? Give her a torch and let her light up the dark streets of Bombay when there is a power cut. I like her attitude though…such confidence can save you even when you are dressed in absurd fashion.

  15. The first thing I thought when I saw this was JLo meets Nicole Richie… I don’t mind their styles individually, but this look does not work for me.

A dress that long and breezy should not be made with loud ‘diva’ fabric… I’m all for fashion risks and mixing trends, but ugh. This is not done too well.

I think I’d have liked this better if her makeup was toned down. Oh well, she definitely has the confidence to pull this off somewhat.
