In Georges Chakra

Kangana picked up her third National Award on Tuesday in the capital and for the ceremony picked an icy-hued Georges Chakra dress. While we don’t have full-lengths of her yet, from what I see, I really liked!

Unlike her previous appearance, this dress didn’t feel as flashy or way too out of place.

Update: Added full-length.

  1. She looks gorgeous. However, I still believe in dressing in an event appropriate way. You go to a job interview? U wear a suit. U go to a wedding? You look festive. You meet the president of India? You don’t dress like Cinderella in her fairy godmother gown. Welcome all the brickbats coming my way ? And for those ladies saying clothes are not a big deal, hello, this is a fashion blog ?

    • Ditto my thots! Dress- pretty. Kangana- gorgeous. Event apt- big nooo! In third pic, she is standing nxt to president n it is nt at all pleasing to see her in an off-shoulder dress! N m nt at all prudish bt dere is sum unlaid protocol (as u hv stated) which must b followed specially while attending events like dese!

      • I totally agree. SHe looks gorgeous – very Cinderella going to her ball. But there is a time and a place and this ain’t it to get your Cinderella garb out. Its an off shoulder dress fit for a soiree or a party. I am surprised by all the positive comments considering PC was nailed for her look just a couple of days ago. At least PC was attending a dinner party.

        • Priyanka’s dress was very trashy. showing 80% of your breasts in a dress when you are sitting down with the most powerful president in the world is not becoming. Kangana’s dress is not traditional but its not trashy. yes she does look like Cinderella going to the ball but somehow she makes it work. I loved Kalki’s dressing. very appropriate and elegant.

    • I totally agree with you. Event appropriate is a must. A saree would have been a better choice even though she looks good.

    • I actually agree.
As lovely she looks, this one would have been better suited for filmfare or a dressed up dinner invitation, oscars maybe. Good red carpet dress but wish she dressed in something ethnic, even if not saree for the national awards.

    • Totally agree. An off shoulder dress at Rashtrapati Bhavan is inappropriate. Thought Kangana knew better – she usually doesn’t commit these faux pas. But these days she’s out to prove she’s ‘different’ from the rest of the girls

    • Agree Ssjeje. It looks like “Cinderella in her fairy godmother gown”. Also agree with Asha that “Part of being a fashionista is knowing what to wear, when and where”. But congrats to Kangana on winning her 3rd National award. I knew that she is capable of that long back when I saw her in ‘Fashion’ movie outshining Priyanka in performance. What a catwalk it was by Kangana in the song ‘Marjawa’. I thought she could also be a ramp model if she didn’t get acting roles. She looks good here no doubt.

    • Couldn’t agree more. Does she look gorgeous? U bet!! But not something to be worn while receiving a National recognition from the President. She would’ve done so much better donning a sari and keeping this one for some other do. Dressing appropriately for an occasion is not really Kangana’s strong point…(case in point Batwoman-eque suit she donned for a Children’s Day event in a school)…

    • Exactly my thoughts!! That it doesn’t look tacky is the only silver lining here! She looks absolutely gorgeous and ecstatic too! But event appropriate ? Not at all!

  2. Either the lip or the eyes, one of them needed toning down. Its too harsh on her delicate features. But the gown is a great choice.

  3. I was expecting a top to toe ethnic wear and whoa! She surprises me with this lovely dress. And of course she looks beautiful with that smile!

  4. She luks pretty no doubt bt off-shoulder dress to collect national award frm president is a strict no no imo! Saree here wud hv been a better choice!

  5. IMO saree is the perfect attire to wear when one is on a national platform like this but she has challenged that etho and in a good way I must say. And kudos to her coz she took this risk. That gown is really very pretty and she looks demure and graceful in it. To top that she is smiling heartily against those serious, frowning kinda looks she usually poses in.

  6. She looks lovely and so is the gown, but it’s not event appropriate. Part of being a fashionista is knowing what to wear, when and where.

  7. Gorgeous dress but inappropriately dressed. For everything right about how she looks the inappropriateness ruined it completely for me.

  8. Gorgeous!! Loved the gown, her hair looks old-world classic! She looked confident yet dainty and lovely!! My only gripe is that she could have gone ethnic, considering it is a national awards ceremony… She has plenty of opportunities to go the evening gown route!

  10. I understand the event appropriate sentiments, but then I think to myself…what does it really matter to us? We will view her photo and forget about it tomorrow. It’s already the next day and the government is still functioning inspite of seeing her bare shoulders, and people have moved on.

It matters to her because it was her moment and she will have these photos to cherish + share with future generations of her family. Kudos to her for choosing something individual and that she was likely comfortable in.

    • There should be an award for the level of awesomeness in this comment. Nobody, including the president is going to remember this moment, but this picture goes on her wall with two other such pictures. She’s happy with her choice, more power to her.

As on strictly fashion front, it’s a beautiful gown on a beautiful woman. Styling done perfect.

    • Agree with C n. It’s her award, it’s her moment and she looked fantastic. I loved her in the movie, being under 30 with 3 national awards is not too shabby either. More power to her.

  11. I am glad to see, I wasn’t the only one who felt she should have gone for a more traditional look here. . She looks ethereal in the gown though.

  12. It’s good to be unconventional and march to your own band but that said Kangna should have worn something more becoming of the event. Kangana in her attempt to challenge the norm seems to have lost her fashion direction.

  13. My first thought was, she should have worn a saree but then I thought over it as why? And somehow the first thought didn’t feel right ?.

  14. Loved loved this look! She looks absolutely ethereal. Makeup, hair, smile all fab! The outfit though not conventional.. didn’t look embarrassingly out of place too. Probably because it’s a sweet and elegant gown rather than a sexy, sultry one. She looked very lovable in all the pics.

  15. She looks great but I find this dress a bit inappropriate for this award ceremony. Maybe she wanted to be different. A sari would have been better

  16. I love this. And I’m actually glad she didn’t go the goody saree route, especially now with all the slurs being flung her way. It’s a kick to all the haters who say how one behaves around a woman is based on how *she* dresses. Actually, I wouldn’t have minded even if she’d landed up shorts, but that’s my frame of mind right now.

  17. To all those criticizing her event inappropriate dressing, please notice the honr. minister Mr. Rathore right behind her wearing neither a dhoti Kurta nor a Kurta pyjama, but a suit. That is definitely not Indian wear. If we also make the criticism every time a man wears a suit to one of these things, I wouldn’t mind Kangana being judged the same way. She looks beautiful, by the way 🙂

    • It looks like a ball gown glittering out of fairy tale. She looks divine but to be honest even if she wanted to go western, a ball gown is not apt for such an event. A bit more(I can’t believe I am saying this or drawing the comparison) classic western look would do and off-shoulder is a big no.

      Reply
    • oh God!! That’s an argument just for the sake of one. A suit is the common acceptable attire for men in india for formal occasions. It’s not s out western or Indian wear. It’s about respecting the occasion.

Also, she is wayyy more appropriately dressed than the President who turned up in his most ill-fitting bandhgala suit.

      Reply
        • For the President, yes ill-fitting is inappropriate. He should dress in a way befitting the President of a country that has a rich tradition of fashion and style. Look up his outfit at the Republic day Parade – such a shame.
We need to get him a tailored suit.

    • I guess I’m old fashioned, so I’m really disappointed. Not that she has any cleavage, I just don’t think it’s appropriate for this particular event. She should have worn something Desi. But if she were at a different award ceremony this look would have been perfect.

  18. I agree with the above commenter. Why do we not criticize men wearing suits as event inappropriate. but also most people are not on board with the bare shoulders i think. if she had worn something more elegant in that department, that would have worked. And as much as I love this dress of hers, I really think I have never seen kangna in a salwar kameez. I would love to see her once in a traditional salwar. Maybe this could have been the event for it.

    • I think people would have commented if a guy showed up in a Tux or Shorts?! Being event appropriate goes beyond wearing western and Indian attire!

      Reply
      • Good comments about the bare arms and men wearing shorts, but I feel we’re more open to seeing a percentage of the abdomen bare (most likely while wearing a saree) instead of a percentage of the shoulder region! That said, to each, their own.

        • what a point! claps! Everybody appreciated Kalki’s sari saying it’s event appropriate. I agree. But according to your comment..it’s so funny we overlook the bareness a sari could show like in Kalki’s case…bare backed blouse!

  19. I think we are having double standards here..we nitpicked Priyanka for wearing inappropriate outfit to meet the president of America…whereas we are lauding Kangana for wearing that gown for National Awards…m not saying she should have worn a sari..but a covering up little bit wouldn’t have harmed…my thoughts…btw shes’s looking nice…just not event appropriate…:)

  20. I too thought that dhe should have adorned a saree but on second thoughts, it seems absolutely fine.

If I were some kind of a magazine editor, I would have labelled this as one of the iconic moments in ‘Bollywood’s’. She has broken a subtle rule yet again by wearing this gorgeous princessy gown instead of something traditional and look at her calm, radiant and yet ‘epitome of happiness’ face, it sure is giving many in Bollywood the message ‘I am a winner and I do not give a damn about all the unfair thrashing and internet trolling going on’. She must have felt like wearing a goen and she wore it.

    • The princessy dress made for a ‘Bollywood iconic moment’ – wow. Really? You proved that the fandom is as bad as the trolls

      • Arre Ritika..hahaha… I forgot to put quotation marks for the word princessy. There was no way I could edit the grammatical mistakes after I posted the comments. I am not a fan of princessy gowns. I think she was feeling like a princess and thats why she wore it.

  21. I think Kangana is fab and I love her sense of style and dressing. In this case, I think a sari would have been more appropriate. That said, she looks great and I wish her many more awards.

  22. I think she thrives on wearing the unexpected and I love the mischeif in that. And if course it doesn’t hurt that she usually pulls it off really well – case in point
