Sari Style

While Mandira’s ‘Red’ could stop a blind man in his tracks, Juhi’s could’ve put the most jaded of insomniacs to sleep. As lovely as the ladies in question are, not feeling these uber filmy/tacky saris. Not at all.

All was not lost though, look inside to see who saved the day!

An absolute breath of fresh air amidst the sea of sequins, shimmer and shine. Haseena kept it simple, elegant and understated, nevertheless packing a punch with her accessories. We like.

  1. I think Mandira wore the red carpet.
    I like Juhi’s look… and her saree. I think she’s really beautiful.
Haseena’s saree is lovely, and I love her earrings… that saree would look awesome on my mom.

    • Heya !!

Mangalagiri cotton is not a mom’s material anymore.Younger women are wearing them more these days.Few years ago youngsters wore only salwaars of this material, now a days sarees have become trendy too.

  2. dudes! seriously? what is tacky about these outfits? just that they’re in color? And they wore it to a filmi event? where is the disconnect?

  3. “Juhi’s could’ve put the most jaded of insomniacs to sleep”- Oh come on! Now this is being too rude..I think Juhi looks decent, neither great nor bad..nice and decent.

  4. Haseena’s saree is a Maheshwari. And agreed, it’s gorgeous — not that it had much competition, if the other two pix are anything to go by.

    • True it’s gorgeous!
Supposedly it was Richard Holkar (part-American scion of the local royal family) who came back from the US to revive the art of Maheshwari weaving from the brink of extinction… The same with the Bissells, who came to India, set up Fabindia, and the rest is history!

  5. Last time Juhi wore a saree, you guys picked on her hair. This time you say its “filmi” and “tacky”. Come on, she looks so nice and natural..

  6. love Haseena’s accessories, not a big fan of her saree, there are a ton of sarees (types) which look a lot classier and better than this one, love that Juhi has just the right amount of accessories and she looks good, the saree color is nice on her and she has a simple regular blouse on, yeay!, hate the saree and accessories including the backless blouse on Mandira, hate the way she is wearing it too, rather weird. bit tired of her halter top blouses too.

  7. Both Mandira and Juhi are wearing sarees for the stage and it’s fine. I like Juhi’s. She looks good. Why don’t you like it? *hmm* You cannot wear what Haseena is wearing and walk on a stage…you are gonna disappear in the camera and all that light! Bling bling and bright colors are needed for the camera 🙂

  8. Juhi’s saree is very nice. I would wear it. Its not filmy in any way, atleast in these pictures.
Haseena’s is understated and elegant but looks sad for this occasion. And normally I am the one rooting for traditional handloom sarees.
Mandira, well, it is too red, but she looks cute and edgy.

  9. Mandira and Juhi don’t look horrible, but I too love Haseena’s saree 🙂
I have a thing for really good quality heirloom-ish sarees (this is considered wierd by most desi girls my age, lol) but yeah, I don’t wear sarees very often and I’m collecting so I can pass them on to my children (I only got one from my own mother- I’m wearing it for my wedding).
There is something so timeless about a good quality saree, they can never go out of style and they never have to be altered
It’s just fabulous. No idea why i shared this, but whatever.

  11. Though Juhi’s saree judged by itself is a little soapopera-ish, I still think the lady somehow makes it work well. An elegant wrist accessory would have made it stand out better than all those matchy bangles.

The color reflects well on her skin tone, and compliments her cheery personality quite well…

  12. Haseena’s saree is beautiful, and such a fitting reply to all these horrid synthetic georgette and plastic sequin monstrosities churned out by designers. I mean, come on… look at that saree of Juhi Chawla’s… horrendous!
India has such an amazing repertoire of textiles, that so much can be done with. We talk of and exalt Italian design and French couture, without taking a passing look at our own glorious design heritage. Westerners, I think, sometimes have a greater understanding of it than we ourselves do.
It’s all to do with going back to the roots, doing things slowly and with love, appreciating the finer things. We had it, we’re losing it. And fast, thanks to this flash “bling” phase we are through.

  13. as much as i like mandira, her taste in clothes has really gone down generally. she used to look best with her hair long and amazing jewellery and yes she used to dress better then.

Juhi looks sweet ya, dont be so critical always. everyone cant have a super model/fashionista sense of dress

  14. i tink juhi looks really nice, she doesnt usually wear orange so its a pleasant change on her and it suits her personality, sunny and glowing!! most critics are unduely harsh on her, i dun noe y. if it was madhuri or sridevi wearing the same sari, they wuld be praising them to the moon. juhi is in her 40’s but she still looks stunning and looking better when she actually chooses to dress up.thumbs up!!

  15. juhi has draped the saree really well but why does she pick these auntyji sarees? haseena’s saree is pretty but could have been more elaborate. it looks way too simple

  16. Absolutely adore Haseena’ s look. Also agre with most folks that Juhi is carrying off her saree well-don’t like the bling, but the colour combo of peach and mango is striking-it works. Can’t stand most of Mandira’s looks these days- looks very harsh and jaded?

  18. Juhi is looking really beautiful…. she is atleast bold to choose bright colurs, rather than the typical black saree or black dress which most of the other heroines wear..
Juhi is superb.. she wears minimal makeup, but still stands out from the rest, she has real beauty.

  19. The Yellow Saree that Juhi Chawla is wearing is gorgeous. I think Haseena Jethmalani is wearing a Maheshwari Hand loom saree too. All the women looking pretty.
