Ikat Summer

If you’ve been following our blog, you know by now that we love Ikat (see here, here, here and here).

It’s just one of those fabrics that never goes out of style and what can I say, we are suckers for the print Ikat (both the traditional weave as well as in it’s mimicked digital print form) . Whether it be on clothing, on upholstery or on tableware, we love it. :)

i still think ikat looks best on sarees. it’s a much larger canvas, so the ikkat tie and dye falls better on it..

i love ikat but think it looks better on home furnishings such as pillows, throws etc.

ikat is not a print. it’s a method of weaving.

Each time someone calls Ikat a print, a fairy dies somewhere. :’-(

Gals, I suppose this is not lust list.. Would love it if you can also suggest some *affordable* alternatives :-) Loved all the pieces above..

Ikat on furnishings is lovely, but lots of these “designer ikat” furnishings in the west are vastly overpriced. Visit any handloom exhibition in India especially the Andhra and Orisaa stalls and you can buy beautiful ikat furnishings, fabrics etc for a fraction of the price directly from the weavers.

I love ikat too! It’s so contemporary and traditional at the same time.

just out of curiosity… if ikat is not a print then how do u justify this being on a tea pot??..i do not wish any fairy to die but feel that this can better be described as a design pattern which is created by various ways , either weaving or printing.. at least for a layman like us..
