Celebrating Halloween

Comment image 34

Halloween isn’t till next week but that didn’t stop Bollywood from celebrating it tonight and celebrate they did with some very good outfits. Between the men and the women, we have to give it to the men who wore their characters really well! Sanjay nailed Chulbul Pandey so well and Arjun (yep that’s him) is quite scary as the Joker! (If Bollywood ever thinks of a remake, they should take him!)

Have you thought of your Halloween costume yet?

P.S. Abhishek was Zorro, Mehr was the Bride from Kill Bill Series, Farah (in Karen Millen) was Jennifer Lopez. Thx Glitter-Girl for the ID.

  1. I heart Joker(Heath Ledger). Arjun looks awesome as the Joker. Mehr is good too. I got a playboy costume(:D) but what the actual costume is, will be revealed only next week. P&P, what are you ladies dressing up as? We want, we want Pics.

  2. Wow, Arjun as the Joker. Maheep Kapoor and Seema Khan didn’t do their best.. And Farrah Khan should have worn the famous low cut green dress.

  3. Farah was Jennifer Lopez? She is dressed in regular clothes, not fun. I love Mehr’s outfit. Maheep’s purple wings and wand are more appropriate for a 3 year old.
I love the men’s outfits though!! They actually put some thought into it.

  4. i saw a close up of arjun’s face on another site …. not good … the make up person had applied a very weak layer. mehr looks good. farah looks silly, Kunal looks …. errr…. dirty ….. but i guess that was what he was going for

My favourite was chulbul pandey …. very authentic ….. Though i have to wonder, why a halloween party in india ? its not really our festival …. more than half the people don’t even know it exists … i think i have never seen children dress up and go around asking for candy here …. ever

    • why not..?? its not our festival..but sure makes a fun party.. :))
and no..its not a thing for common ppl..at-least not yet..maybe in a few years..it’ll catch on a bit..but don’t think that we’ll get to see children dress up and go around asking for candy..

      • i’ve been seeing kids dressed up and going around asking for candy two years already where i live! i guess the halloween awareness is higher in places that see a lot of indians returning to live after stints abroad.

      • nothing wrong per say …… But usually any festival has a lot of emotions attached to it …. childhood memories, its own historical significance, something that excites us or binds us to it …. Thats what makes it special ……. like enne said below – too much commercialisation …

….. nothing wrong …. its obviously going to be a fun party … its just not a ‘festival’ ….. just another costume party …. dressing up, food, dance and booze …. errr…. now i want to go 🙂

    • i agree with u swati. ppl cld just have a themed party anytime of the yr if they really had to. Haloween in many places has become a time to look stupid and get drunk. Not really needed in my opinion.

      • I agree, it’s interesting to see that ppl in India are celebrating Halloween. I mean anything ‘commercial’ seems to catch on there with the celebrity crowd. I’m all for globalization and diversity and all but really, what does Halloween mean to anyone over there? Even if they did complete a ‘stint abroad?’ It’s not a traditional holiday they grew up with. I just don’t get it.
I mean are we going to see pics of ppl celebrating Thanksgiving dressed as pilgrims and Native Amercans on the blog next month??

        • why not? whats wrong with people dressed up as pilgrims and celebrating Thanksgiving? Why such rigidity?
As for halloween, it doesn’t mean anything to anyone even in the US . If you ask any real American they will tell you the genesis was way back in 1700s as Hallow Eve and later became halloween all drama and no religious sentiments ..
Also on my small stint abroad in Scandinavia i saw many locals talk about Halloween as American invasion while they were young. It is an American concept which has taken over many countries for it’s sheer fun factor and so why accuse just Indian celebs.

          • Thanksgiving is an exclusively ameriacan holiday cos there were no pilgrims & Native americans in any other part of the world…other countries celebrating thanksgiving is almost as meaningless as them celebrating the 4th of july !!

          • For those of us living in the US, Halloween is a huge damper on Indian festival season. It’s a celebration of the dead and all things dark (All Hallow’s Eve, followed by All Saints Day on November 1), which has turned into a candy-and-cheap-decoration fest that takes over our kids’ imaginations and focuses them away from the beauty of Deepavali preparations. Following the holiday, which American schools celebrate full tilt, kids are sugar-crazed, cranky and sometimes even sick, as Halloween seems to so often fall on the same weekend as ‘flu shots arrive in pediatricians offices locally and the sugar/shot combination undoes even the regularly healthy kid…not my favorite holiday. Too bad India is picking up the trend…
