Sari-licious?

For the Delhi premiere of ‘Kisaan’, Dia chose a black/gold sari that she wore with a full sleeved blouse, a look that she also gave us a few weeks before at the South Asian Carnival in Houston.

Got a preference between the two looks or are you like me on the fence about the full sleeves?

  1. In my opinion, the full-sleeve blouse is such a statement in and of itself that the sari should be understated. In the black/gold instance, I wish she would have worn a less embroidered sari.

  2. Oh god! I hope these dont hit the next style wave….I remember the 3/4 sleeves of the 80’s and my upper arms are still struggling wiith the shorty short sleeves that my tailor thinks are the rage right now!!
That said, the SA carnival one looks better than the Kisaan one – possibly because of the pattern.
The plain one looks too stodgy for someone like Dia.
And she’s someone who can carry a trend like that very easily..

  3. full sleeved blouses tend to look very matronly … the pink saree is aweful … the gold and black looks good but i think it adds years to your face. full sleeves make you look very severe.

i keep imagining her black n gold saree with normal sleeves and i think that could have gone 2 ways – sexy or classic …. big no to full sleeves from me

  4. full sleeves for me should be for older woman. Dia is far too young for it, unless like Nidhi says its a statement of some sort. But even then i dont like both these blouses.

the pink one is worse, horrible print!

  5. High necks and full sleeves age her. Between the two she almost had a full blouse. A sheer tight sleeve and lower neck line would have helped her carry off the style. Merely bringing back a classic style doesn’t work. She needs to reinvent it. Naughty stylist!

  6. I hate the full sleeves.. Watch them bring back the 3/4 sleeves – which I hate as well. Diya looks gorgeous in both outfits even though it’s a little OTT.

  7. I like transparent full sleeves like in her premiere pic, its the high collor that makes it all very “severe” and “matronly” as someone put it.
Otherwise the full sleeves with slight border and gathered at the wrist like a churidaar is very beautiful in my opinion.

  8. The pink sari in general is horrible. The black and gold on on the other hand is a nice sari though not feeling the blouse at all. The high neck on the black/gold blouse makes me want to refer to her as ‘Raj maata’!!!

  9. I’m not liking it much. I think that full sleeves look good if everything else is kept simple. Her sarees are too bling bling and that just doesn’t work.

  12. I do love Dia.. She is so elegant but I find that her Sari with her Black full sleeved blouse hides her. Sarees for me are hard to carry off since I feel claustrophobic in them [I’m 5’3 and find 7 yards of fabric hard to manage but I do love women who carry them so well], let alone wearing them in full sleeved blouses, high heels, full makeup and long hair!!

Sari is such an elegant outfit and very difficult to actually get it wrong… But WHY would anyone pair a loud full sleeves blouse with a loud sari?? Beats me!

  14. ouch. i LOVE full sleeves. they work beautifully with sarees in Delhi winters. dont need to wear woollens. And well – i guess i can wear them because i am matronly journalist type! but for a young starlet, maybe not, if you fans dont like it. i think she looks good.
