Deepika on Verve India: (Un)Covered

November 10th, 2009 at 8:22 pm . by Payal

Update: Ms. Padukone is wearing the dress and not the jumpsuit. Thanks ‘RK’ and ‘belle deese’.

The November edition of Verve serves up Ms. Padukone wearing a Monisha Jaisingh sequin jumpsuit fresh off the Couture Week runway. While I am not a fan of the design of the jumpsuit (the v-neck), angelic is what came to mind when I saw Deepika on the cover. Your thoughts on the cover?

lurve her make up!!! the top part of the outfit looks good ..but seeing the whole outfit reminds me of the disco days….too much sequins…

    • Heline says:

      totally agree with you!!!

    • sana says:

can’t understand why anyone would want to wear that jumpsuit…unless they don’t want to be seen in it in public that is.

      • belle desse says:

hmm, this is just my personal opinion but I think that this is fashion as art, not as clothing. It’s avant garde and creatively flamboyant, the focus is not on wearability.
Couture does not have to be practical, ever.

But that apart, even as a piece of artisitic couture, this does not really appeal to me.

I like the bold sihoutte in the fiesty shade of gold, but not the sequin overdose. More dramatic make-up, a better defined waist, fiercer heels and hair-do and a lot less shimmer and I’d have loved it.

      • Ravali says:

I think she would retain the sequin pattern, the V-neck et al..and work it as a dress or a top.

  2. jiji says:

Possible one of Deepika’s best magazine covers! love it. I hate to spoil it but i only wish she didn’t squeeze against her boob for the ‘lift’ effect. Would’ve been really ‘angelic’ then!

  3. SS says:

oh I love the jumpsuit! it looks fab on the model! deepika..the usual…

  4. yusra says:

i love this cover sooooooooooooooooooo much

  5. SMM says:

The outfit makes me wanna go “Disco deewane” :P

Otherwie Deepika looks lovely on the cover pic…one of her best ever

  6. mia says:

deepika’s face looks lovely and serene. not a fan of gold sequins.

  7. Rupal says:

She has a rather “stiff” face …. but looks soft and feminine on this cover. I Like.

  8. Sharin says:

She looks pretty and all (she can’t help it her features are so amazing) but it’s only angelic because they’ve made the picture all soft and glowy (diffuse glow on photoshop anyone lol?). I mean.. that’s not her skin colour and not her real look.. it’s ALL lighting for this shot.

    • KS says:

Agree on the diffuse glow but that is not what makes it angelic, it is her eyes. Just cover her face below the eyes and see.

    • suzy q says:

oh please, deepika is an average south indian girl. nothing special here – she’s no waheeda rehman. the beauty of this shoot can only result of the styling and lighting.

      deepika is SOOOOOOO overrated.

afn boob squeeze: WTF? let it go, bollywood women, WE KNOW YOU HAVE BOOBS. can we move on now?

  9. priya says:

she looks nice on the cover. love the eye make up. but wish she didn’t lift her boob up like that. not very angelic that way! ;)

  10. Sej says:

Monisha looks much better and works it much better hands down. DP just doesn’t have that glam factor. Looks very eh.

  11. pdaervo says:

    Gorgeous cover, very… sincere :)
    Love the hair

  12. diptiN says:

i love the cover, so GLAD we cannot see the whole jump suit.

  13. monika says:

She looks divine. Love her make up

  14. kitschy gal says:

I think the jumpsuit’s rather hot!! i like the sculpted shoulder et al..
the cover too is great… fab hair and make up :)

  15. Fashionluvver says:

“Photoshopped” is what comes to my mind :)

  16. RK says:

it’s not a jumpsuit – it’s a dress that she’s worn in an inside pic of the verve cover story as well..

  17. OMG!!! says:

    OMG!!!!
I am never nice to Miss Padukone caz i think shez just BLAH!
    but helooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!
LOVEEEE HER HERE!!!! love the cover!!!!!!! love the hair!
and lovvvvvveeeeee (i mean loooooeeeeewwwweeeee) the make up!!!
Verve needs to style her for every event! Kudos!

  18. PJ says:

    For the jumpsuit: Balmain
    For Deepika: Pretty..

  19. hhc-reader says:

I think this is one of Deepika’s best covers. She looks divine

  20. belle desse says:

I love it! The lighting, the concept, Deepika, Everything. Although, I do agree that the cleavage show could have been a little more subtle, only because it jars with the whole pristine purity thing going on.

Verve consistently delivers with with fabulous covers and innovative fashion editorial unlike SOME other fashion magzines. *cough* the Indian Vogue *cough cough*

    • belle_desse says:

PnP, I just bought the magazine and she’s NOT wearing the jumpsuit.

She’s wearing a dull gold sequinned and black beaded dress by Monica Jaisingh from the same collection, and it photographs quite well.

Also, could you feature Suzanne’s spread in Harper’s Bazaar?
It’s heavily photoshopped but superbly conceptualized. The cover is quite unimpressive, but the spread more than makes up for it.

  21. charan says:

Like the look, but we cant really tell how she wore the jump suit :(

  22. Swapna says:

as always she looks beautiful …She and Chitrangada have lovely faces and their beautiful eyes always reflect warmth.

  23. belle desse says:

Funny, I dont see any aknowledgement for the spotting. OR is that just a policy you forget conveniently?

  24. kaya says:

    Guys what’s going on here?

  25. charan says:

    :)) one wonders…
