Who better than Ms. Padukone to put on a summer cover in a cut-out suit in a 80s pin-up style pose. Hawt!

  1. cant say its awesome..for one it does not look like a vogue cover…how’s a swimsuit body posing against a car and while its summer….it does not look like a summer cover at all …its not sunny not cheerful … should have been placed in somewhere else where the environment reflects the season.feels like a great model is being wasted in a wrong background

  2. Deepika looks amazing, but I am so sick of covers where the actresses tell us how to get their perfect bodies.

Deepika did not get her body because of whatever glib tips she is going to be rattling off in the magazine. Her body is a result of her athletic childhood, the battery of fitness trainers, dieticians and yoga instructors who tend to her, and being taught how to pose, carry herself and present her best angles to the camera. And of course, her flawless genes. You can’t ‘get’ her endless legs, you have to be born with them.

I’m so through with idiotic magazines that create unrealistic expectations of beauty in women and damage their self-esteem. Deepika is in an industry where her main professional requirement is to look drop-dead gorgeous 24/7, she has a village of people to help her do so and she is rich and famous because of how fantastic she looks. The average woman who buys this magazine neither can, nor needs to, get her body.

    • I studied with Deepika in the same college in Bangalore. Back then she had only one coach/trainer- her dad, she trained for 3 hours everyday before college, just yoga and badminton, which any ordinary girl can do.

Even then and till today I have heard she never eats dessert, and does yoga/workout/swims everyday.

To know the above does not require a trainer.

Yes, you may not be as tall as her, or have that beautiful face, but you can certainly get that body and you dont need a “village” of anything for that.

Get real, get off the sugar, and know that there are girls who work out. Even if they arent filmstars.

      • There’s nothing wrong in working out but if you think 3 hours of training everyday is nothing, I don’t know what to say. Deepika could do that because she didn’t need to worry about her studies or prepare for various exams to make an academic career for themselves. She didn’t have to work a second job to make some pocket money. Nor did she probably have to come home and do housework like most ordinary people.

I don’t know a single normal person who can devote 3 hours a day to exercise. 30 minutes, yes. 3 hours, hell no.

They also don’t have make-up artists to fix their minor flaws and cover up pimples on a bad day, etc. Barring all that, there is always photoshop for professional pictures. To expect normal women to look like that standard is absurd.

Maybe we could rephrase “To expect normal women to look like that standard is absurd” to ” For Men To expect normal women to look like that standard is absurd” 😛

    • Puneeta, I used to be a state-level swimmer and I do work out everyday, although not for 3 hours. I’m slim but there is no way that I will ever look like Deepika and I’m tired of magazines that keep pressuring me into feeling inadequate unless I have Deepika’s legs, Katrina’s midriff and Bipasha’s back.

There is no need to be condescending or to assume that any woman who criticises the unattainable beauty standards propagated by the media is fat, lazy and jealous.

So yes, I do know that there are women out there who worm out. Perhaps you should know that there is nothing with women who eat dessert or don’t forgo sugar in order to live up to stupid media-manufactured standards of beauty.

    • I don’t understand the fuss. Why should anyone feel pressured looking at this. Feeling pressured is coming from a person’s own insecurity and need to rise to some expectation. Deepika is Deepika and you are you and I am I. We take what info we can take and adopt and just admire her and let it go. There is no need to hold on it and feel bad about it. It’s not her fault that she is gorgeous, works hard and has people to help her. Making an issue of this could mean one is feeling jealous. I feel fitness and a slick body can be achieved depending on one’s hardwork (not including genes and people to help), without any excuses. The time you need to devote to it is completely individual, as everyone is a different body kind. Anyway, just thought I’d put in my thoughts.

      • agree to you 100% leher…would anyone feel pressure to become a successful banker if they saw a picture of chanda kochar on cover of business today with tips like this…

      • I agree…I am not sure what the fuss is about. I love fashion magazines and buy them for the fun of the editorials and clothes. I do not for once think I need to look like them nor have any of my friends who buy the same magazines feel the same way. Take it in context and leave at that….why do we have to emulate those standards? I think barring our fairness obsession as a country….I think Indian woman generally embrace curves/

      • Leher, I’m not blaming Deepika for being gorgeous. My issue is with the magazines who make it look like movie star perfection is achievable and something that every woman must aspire for. Of course you can work out and have a good body, but no one is going to get Deepika’s body just by following the few simple tips she gives in the magazine.

As for feeling pressured coming from ones insecurity, you don’t seem to be aware of how influential the media is on on women’s body image and self esteem. Not trying to be condescending, but if you honestly think that pressure only comes only from within, you should read about the subject to realise what a powerful force the media can be when it comes to distorting women’s perceptions about their body and giving them low self esteem.

        • Seeta, thank you for such an articulate take on the subject.
Puneeta, I was in the same college as her, too. I assure you, with the subject load/practicals/exams/whatnot we had, I couldn’t have had 3 hrs for a workout every day. I don’t think that’s normal for a regular college student at all, unless she is a sports enthusiast/model and doesn’t have to worry about other stuff.

    • U nailed it!! Whats the idea of selling these magazines, for readers to read and what happens with the girls who read it.. they get obsessed!

It take immense level of maturity to understand that this is “just” a magazine for entertainment and is NOT meant to be taken seriously and most of our teenagers dont get this at all. These days a kid at 10th std is afraid of ice creams, i was shocked to see this, if you dont enjoy ice cream at 15 when will you ever!!???

On the other hand this is a fashion blog and DP deserves her rightful place in this!! She is working the hell out of that suit and the cover!!

      • Well said Seeta! And all the women accusing Seeta of being fat and jealous just prove her point even more strongly. A woman is a lot more than just her body, you don’t need to reduce one woman’s intelligent, articulate opinion to whether she is jealous of an actress’s body or not.

And to those of you saying that people aren’t influenced by these magazines: get real! Th reason it says ‘how to get Bollywood’s best body’ is because they know that millions of girls out there crave to look like Deepika and this sort of a misleading title will sell their magazine.

  3. More expression in her eyes maybe but that has always been my complaint with deepika.

And it doesn’t say vogue to me but rather maxim. And it doesn’t have anything to do with the bikini but rather the feel the production values.

    • I’m happy to see one comment that finally reflects what I’m thinking. Most Indian fashion magazines seem to be confused about whether they are showcasing fashion or catering to the fantasies of hormonal boys. It’s sad how prevalent and celebrated this sleazy sexualization of women is. Actually even some of the men’s magazines have classier covers- some of the Esquire UK covers for instance are far superior to most of what Vogue India turns out.

It’s also appalling the way Vogue India keeps associating itself with the same 3-4 Bollywood actresses, most of whom are not known for their fashion sense.

  4. WOW! Seriously! Love the hair and makeup as well. She looks very stylish. There’s nothing men’s magazine about it, methinks!

  5. that swimming suit had SO much potential. This cover is horrible. Deepika is not the right model for this what so ever. I know a lot of ppl think she has a g8 body (which I dont really understand but w/e) but her look in no way is pin up glam. If they went with the swimming suit and did something cute and Dita Von Teese ish then this cover would have been amazing.

  6. Seems very cheap looking for a Vogue cover. The folks at Vogue have proved time and again that they do not have an ounce of creativity.also this is Deepikas, what, 300th vogue cover? Can’t they find anybody else?! So stale. India Vogue need to up their game big time.

  7. Hot body. Not impressed with the face though. Like others said, this looks like it belongs on FHM or Maxim, any kind of men’s magazine. This is not suitable for Vogue.

  9. what stupid cover is that! swimsuit with a car in the background…. are we supposed to feel summery here?
And sorry but Deepika aint looking hot, plus IMHO without being prejudiced about the color of the skin, that color palette would actually look tons better had it been on somebody fairer…

  11. First and foremost, cover-people need to figure out the difference between giving sexy-face and im-a-gonna-jump-out-and-clobber-you angry-face, between come-hither eyes and dead-fish-left-out-in-sun-too-long eyes.

  12. I am not crazy about the cover, but I don’t think its vulgar, she’s got the body to show skin without it looking cheap!
