The fabulous Ms De should stick to her saris and statement jewelry; she knows how to totally work it, hell, she absolutely owns the look!

  2. violet: from what one can say from a pic, it’s an ikat, woven in orissa, andhra pradesh and gujarat. this is probably a designer’s take on the age-old craft

  3. the jewelry is not working for the dress…this one, sorry to say, is a media whore. she may design sarees and all, but KK definitely owns the saree look

  4. Does anyone else think her blouse is totally mismatched? It’s not the same blue as the saree, nor is there enough of contrast for me to think it was intentional.

    Violet-
That looks like an Ikat (Orissa) or Patola (ikat from Gujarat, basically) saree.

  5. Hmmm doesnt look like a gadwal( my mom owns a few of those n i know wat they look like)…but I’m not sure.
Why is Sobha De so famous? Her columns suck and her books can be described as soft porn at best.
Maybe her industry connections have somethin to do wid it.

  6. i love the indigo colour of the sari. the design looks patola to me. to answer ‘melange’s’ question about why she is so famous, in my opinion, it’s to do with her husband being tres riche.

  7. Sorry, Violet…I must be colorblind – I still can’t see any purple on the saree! All I see is some gold zari in the blue border but no purple. If there IS some purple in the saree I’d have to say it’s a bad choice…why not pick a color others can easily see?

    P&P-
What recommendation would you guys give for choice of blouse color with a saree like this that has multiple colors in the print? If she did red, that might look too matchy because her bag is red too. Some might think yellow/green/white would be a good idea, but personally I would’t care for anything other than the blue of the saree’s border/base. I hope that *some* day I’m able to get this whole How Matchy Should You Be With Indian Outfits concept.

  8. I don’t know why people hate her so much. i know her and she’s lovely human being. just coz she’s married to a rich man doesn’t make her a bitch.

  9. Agree totally, she is very good friend, and refreshingly honest, and has a sense of humour to make you roll on the ground. Loyal Indian to a fault, and her last three books are anything but soft porn. The saree is from Hyderabad, my Mom has one. More importantly she never forgot her middle class roots.

  10. It’s a pochampally saree, really. Indian ikat is usually cotton-only, and this one is silk. Plus the ends of each pattern (where the pattern blends into the base purple/blue shade) are finished in the Andhra Pradesh/Maharashtra style, not the Orissa style – the latter is more ‘ethnic’-ey and more a Kiron Kher style than this one.

    My two cents 🙂

  11. It’s a Patola. From Andhra. Bit surprised all these savvy commenters don’t know their weaves at all! Orissa Ikat (i.e. Bomkai) is very different. And Gadwal isn’t Ikat at all.
